This is just an update video on the progress with the outdoor fireplace build I started over a year ago. I'll also go over briefly how I mix the mortar and place some of the bricks. In the future I'll do a full break down of how this process works. BUT this video is more of an update and current status of the build, Along with the day in the life of a Builder, Husband and Dad :)

Yo, man refractory morter if impossible to find locally for me.. curious what morter you used..

The most common we find out here is this Rapid Set Mortar mix. Home Depot or lowes usually has it.

What type of screws did you use to hold your bracing for the angle forms?

I actually used a framing/wood type screw. Knowing it would just be a sacrificial screw and only needed to hold temporarily. You could use any type of wood or masonry screw.

Fix your title as you didn't cover anything about actually mixing the mortar. Other than that, the video was very good.

Those are blocks not bricks. Why aren’t you creating vertical mortar joints between each block?

These CMU Blocks have a tongue sand groove style to them. So the ends interlock eliminating the need for vertical joints. And at the end of it all I had rebar and cement through the whole thing. So everything was tied into each other by the end. Then covered with stucco for the finished surface.
