In this video I show you a deck that I built 32 years ago in Syracuse, NY. I was 22 years old at the time. I interview the owner who is my dad. I sturdy it up with some new bolts and brackets. Some viewers disagree that a post can not be burried in the ground, so i dug up the posts to check to see how they held up. I sealed the deck with CWF cedar tone Sealer made by Flood products. Overall the deck is still in great shape and should last my dad another 32 years.

Craig, I love all of your videos. I am a carpenter with a business down in Butler county Pa a couple hours south of you. You do quality work, and you know that. Everyone on youtube has to be a hater and say how this and that aren't going to work. Its nice to see another video at ol' Grandma Heff's place. Thanks for sharing.

I power wash the deck and coat it with Thompsons every year. It's 25 years old this summer.

Great video. I'm building a "fort" for my kids. The main structure is made with pressure treated wood. It has a very rough surface and it's easy to get splinters if your hands rubs against it. Is it possible to sand pressure treated wood?

I guess those 8 people that told you 32 years ago it won't last... now hates dislikes this video today because they were proven wrong. Good lord above people. He's proven you don't have to do it according to the same ol regurgitated ways. Ours is like this at moms, still standing strong as day 1 FULLY in the ground in CLAY!

my deck's posts are backfilled with dirt too. I am worried how long it can last. It rains a lot in the Seattle area. It is treated wood. Any suggestions?
