Craig. You do such a good job with these videos. Gives me the confidence to think I can tackle something like this myself

My front porch/deck I built was based on your simple deck with treated lumber you posted about 10 years ago.

I also love that he involves his kids, or his kids and some of their friends I love that I teach my daughter things while I'm on jobs, she has learned actually quite a bit it's awesome that to feel that, since schools take all the trades out of everything now and expect them to be nothing but deadhead paper pushers, these kids need trades so that they know how to do things in life not just pushing paper

Thanks for sharing. You only need a little bit of concrete? I seen guys fill a whole cylinder with it. Is the cylinder not needed?

Why no spacing between deck boards? Wood movement/swelling isn't going to cause the boards to start to swell and create boards popping up?

How would I do this on a cement patio? Unable to dig out post holes. Thanks!
@plumbingwerx10 күн бұрын
This looks amazing. I'm planning on doing one for our own pool in our own garden, and just had a question purely out of curiosity. When you dug the 3ft holes for the posts you filled them up with concrete, then once it was dry you put the posts on tip, and filled in the rest of the hole with dirt. Why not fill it in with concrete to hold the poles steady and in place? Would love to hear your advice.

Craig, you only had 10 posts in. When did the 11th post near the stairs get put in or did you not dig a hold for that one.

So i found this video to be the most comprehensive how to buid a deck with no frills for a beginner. I decided to go ahead and attempt my first deck with my dimensions using these tips/methods. 1st takeaway is rent the damn machine to dig those holes 2nd takeway dont skip the strings, my post wernt quite lined up, i was able to fudge it pretty good and everything looks good after trimmed out. 3rd take away and this is a big one, code no longer allows you to bolt the beams to the posts as this video showed. And the jury is still out whether I have to rebuild my entire deck. My fault for not checking regs first, but just want everyone else to know that.

Why no spacing on the deckboards? Isn't that crucial for water runoff and expansion and contraction of the wood?

@StaciePurvis28 күн бұрын
The deck looks great, but if you have to change the liner you're going to have a problem since the boards go right up to the top caps of the pool. How many boards are you going to have to remove so you can remove the top caps?

They didn't bring him back to those awful people did they? We have a 3 leg rescue mink from a fur farm. He hurt his leg but they didn't do anything to help him because he was "Going to be harvested soon any way" we used our emergency savings to adopt and give veterinary care. I hope those people ... Those monsters... lose a leg painfully and no one takes them to a doctor. There's no excuse when fake fur can mimic mink fur extremely well. Tiny cages and misery. Awful people.
