The DIY method is the best way to learn and get things figured out. It also enables you to figure out exactly what works best for you without someone else insisting you do what works for them. That may work great but if it isn't comfortable to do it isn't the right way for you.

Allie you are truly inspiring. My husband and son are rifle hunters and I'm taking my first bow classes. I'm so thankful for your videos and love that your not a shrink it and pink it kind of girl. I'm buying the Mathews Avail this week and I'm so excited. This review helped me decide the bow I wanted. Thank you so much for being awesome and inspiring me that I can do this with my boys and encourage my daughter to join me.

Someone else may have already commented this, but I haven't seen it. I would serve in your tie line from the drop away to the cable. Also you will love that bow. My wife bought one back in May and is shooting great with it. Getting 297 FPS at 57 lbs.

Here is a trick i learned to do when setting up a bow.. Place an arrow on the rest than place a 6" steel rule on top of the arrow and measure to the center of your top sight pin.. keep track of that, do the same with number two pin approx (30 yard pin), number 3 pin (40 yard pin) etc.. It's a static setting but has placed me on target with each pin.. good shooting..

Super nice bow. SUGGESTION: I have painted three bricks fire engine red and painted on the #'s 20, 30, & 40, respectively (in yellow) and buried them just above ground level so they won't interfere with grass cutting. My backstop is permanent but if you stick to your portable you could put an brick with an x on it for target location.

I shot competition in Bow Hunter class then bowhunter freestyle and then freestyle and Pro. Won many competitions, decided to give it up for traditional archery. That's what I've been doing for 10 years, it's just more fun. But all archery is great and you have really nice archery form

Outdoors Allie I have a 32 inch draw, and when they started making the Aeros 31 and 1/2 inches I had to search and search to find someone who made arrows long enough for me. I now shoot Black Eagle Instinct 34 in Long arrows. And their micro diameter for Deep Impact. 537 grains including a hundred grain point, traveling app 100 88 ft per second will do the job on any animal. I love your Channel keep up the good work

On your case. I think it would look good if you painted an eagle about half way up in a white birch tree with a rainbow trout in its talons, looking out over a small stream feeding into a lake nearby. With a mule deer close by browsing in some wild clover and a moose browsing in lily pads in the lake. Just a thought.

One more thing as far as sighting in your bow. Walk back tuning is one of the best ways to tune your bow for hunting season. I like to shoot at 5 yards aiming at the same arrow hole and adjusting my sight until I can hit in the same hole twice. Then I move back in ten yard increments and shoot without moving my sight. More than likely you'll have a slanted line of arrows. All that's left is to move your rest a tiny amount in the direction of the slant(I believe) and re-shoot in ten yard increments until you have a perfect straight up and down line of arrows. I wouldn't worry about paper tuning. Mainly because your grip plays such a big role that torquing your bow a tiny amount will majorly throw you off.

Good job sighting in your new bow... Mathews makes a very good bow, i bought my first one in 1994.. Today i mostly shoot one of my Hoyt's.. I finally moved to Trophy Ridge a sight, i still after all these years shoot a single pin sight .. nothing like it..

Lead with your elbow when you pull back so your front shoulder is down when holding.meaning your release arm,your elbow is straight up and your face doesn't go to the string the string goes to you. Hope it was helpful.

I also noticed when you draw you angle your bow upwards a little. It looks like your draw is a tad heavy. Take a breath, lift your bow, push with your bow and pull with your other hand. You want to crush a can between your shoulder blades. This will enguage your back muscles to draw the bow instead of your arms.
@bobbysancho310
@bobbysancho310 7 жыл бұрын
Love the bow! Suggestion, use your back muscles to release the arrow. Keeping some extra tension while at full draw; wrap finger around trigger (may need to adjust length) and with the least amount of movement, release trigger with your back muscles. Like your going to hit someone behind you with your elbow. relaxing and slapping trigger down will throw your arrow off enough to open-up your groups.
@xcmandan

Having a wrist sling on your bow will help with gripping the handle before the arrow has left the bow. Which causes torque. You can let the bow fall forward into your hand and have a better follow through. "Relax your grip...let the bow fall into your hand". A wrist sling will help a lot!! Tighter groups to follow. Happy shooting.

Hey so this will help you a lot! When you draw your bow back don’t do it with your elbow down to your side.... look at how you draw back elbow low, and then you raise elbow high.. remove that step and start with your elbow high like that position before you draw... it will save your shoulder and make drawing much easier as it forces you to use your back muscles to draw and not just your shoulder!

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine kzfaq.infoUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

I think you're doing a great job.do what's comfortable to you.great form!practice, practice practice!!!
@taylorpetty5866
@taylorpetty5866 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Allie, so there's a few things that you could correct if you're interested. First off your form looks pretty good, but there are a couple things that you can fix. the first is that you're hitching your hips. This normally happens when you're pulling to much weight, but also can be because of a draw length that's too long. To fix this just stand up straight and try to stay straight throughout your shot instead of bending at the waist. Second, is that your draw length may be just a bit too long. Maybe only a 1/4 in, but it will make you shoot better with the correct draw length. Third, as has been said, is that you have a good amount of facial pressure. This is normally fixed with your release hand, but since you're using an index release I'm not exactly sure what you need to do. Last, but definitely not least is that front shoulder. It is very high and you should strive to keep it down when you draw. This allows the bones in your arm to hold the weight instead of your muscles since they're aligned. A good way to solve this is by drawing your bow above your shoulder instead of below. This is setting you up in the position you need to be in from the start instead of having to correct it at full draw. Hope these helped and if you have any further questions, I'll be happy to answer them!

I love the looks of them just by themselves!!😍 Also, I'm not sure if you'll remember, but I commented on your "how to land a job in the outdoor industry" video and mentioned how I was also an EMT and learned that wasn't the career for me as well and how we were kind of "twinning"😂 I just wanted to add that my previous bow was also a Hoyt, and I JUST received my new Mathews last week (and I love it so much already!😍 hope u do too) So somehow we are twinning once again and switched to Mathews at the same time!😂 Weird!!! And pretty cool!! Lol!

I would recommend going to a hook release aid like a Trophy Ridge Hard-core max. The fingers on a caliper release aid have a tendency to open at different speeds causing string deflection.

Hey, I know I'm late to the crowd but I hope you read this. For me personally I don't sight in my bow immediately, I pick a spot on the target and aim at that point consistently. I get to the point where my arrows are scraping against each other cause every now shoots different so your grip and hand point is still changing from your last bow. After my group's at good I sight it in so I don't have to redo the sight tape. And a gear tip, I'd recommend you try out a trophy taker smack down pro arrow rest, I've tried the qad rests and loved them but I find that the trophy takers are much much muchhh more consistent. Good luck :)

I may as well add .02 to the conversation, I would like to see your trigger finger a little deeper around the trigger BEFORE you start aiming then keep it totally movement free through the shot, just aim and increase tension in your back. bring the release into your finger instead of moving your finger into the release.other than that very small nit picky issue I think you are doing it! Your follow through seems like you are on the right track.
@gmpsandw
@gmpsandw 7 жыл бұрын
Allie I agree with the others regarding slapping the trigger, as stated try resting your finger on it and slowly squeeze it like the trigger of a gun. The other thing I noticed is your draw, you draw with your draw elbow in a downward position and elevate it towards the end of the draw. Be careful with that you can injure your rotator cuff. That draw causes you to use the wrong muscles, you should be drawing with the L2 muscle in the back which is like squeezing your shoulder blades together. If you find you can't draw with your elbow flat you may have the draw weight to high. Good shooting otherwise!

Hey Allie, I noticed your stance when you were shooting your bow and I saw that you were leaning back a little, the way someone taught me to improve it so that your standing verticle is to try to put more pressure on your front foot and not so much your back, it will feel like your leaning forward alot at first but your actually standing verticle, your accuracy will improve alot by standing perfectly verticle and it might feel harder to hold your bow back but you will get used to it hope this helps you out. (please respond and let me know if it did help you).

But now im getting a new bow its bugging me wether to buy an IQ peepless sight or mess with peeps and getting the size right to ring my sight properly, ahhhh choices choices ( headache)

try putting a wrist strap on your bow and open your hand on your bow that way you are not gripping the bow. I noticed that when you release the arrow that you are gripping the bow and turning it to the left a little bit. that's the only thing that I saw that would help your groups and be more consistent good vid keep it up.

Here's a few suggestions: 1) double check your draw length. It looked like you were leaning back away from the target and your bow arm was stretched out straight. 2) check and adjust sight's second and third axis. 3) do a quick paper tune. It looked like your set up might be nock high. A paper tune will either rule that out or confirm it. 4) consider getting a shorter release, one that will let you get your finger wrap deeper. 5) experiment with a little more stabilizer weight up front. On a few of your shots, your bow seemed to kick backward. 6) you mentioned hunting season. If you're planning on hunting with this bow and you use a bow mounted quiver, have your quiver mounted and loaded while you adjust and practice with your new bow. 7) finally, leave the Mathews in the case and start shooting the Prime again .......

Def punching the trigger Here’s what ya do Come to full draw keep finger away from trigger and keep aiming and have someone sneak up behind u and hit the trigger at that moment of surprise that’s how it should feel everytime and when u do this you’ll hit the center of target I promise Once u do this , when your shooting rest finger on trigger and slowly drive ur release elbow straight back while slightly pushing the bow forward You’ll see the results Good luck

I saw the pros doing it, been trying it lately and it seems to be more accurate....I think lol I would appreciate more details on what you're thinking when you're making adjustments within the same range. for example, I am having an issue getting tight groups at 30 yards, my arrows will fly left and right, but not up and down...I can't make a L&R adjustment with my pins, but I don't want to throw off my adjustment at other ranges. curious to know what you do to hone in at the same distance.

Try drawing the weight past your body with a high elbow instead. Elbow should be above your shoulder. Also I agree that you’re punching the trigger. Try to drive your elbow straight back while keeping a nice deep hook on your release with your index finger. I hope this helps.

Uuuggghhhh...... Mathews????? Great quality, but it's like hauling a cinder block......lol. In terms of tips, and this may just be me. But do you see how your grip is? How your thumb is hooked. I basically put it so my hand is pushing directly against the grip. Basically just my palm, this is also with a leash to so I can let the bow "fall" without actually dropping it. One last thing, dip the threads of your field tips in some bow string wax, just a little bit, and that will help keep them from rattling out, as well as prevent them from rusting in place. Long winded, I know. That is all.

Make sure to practice when you have different humidity. misty or heavy humid days, my arrows always drive down. Your video came across my feed so I'm not to familiar so if this is a no Brainerd, don't take offense 😁

Hey I noticed how in your first group from 20 yards, your arrows were crooked and that comes from one of many things but the most common one that I've noticed is that your bow is "out of tune" or your arrow spine size does not match up with your bow speed/foot pounds/draw weight/style of cam/draw length. But other than that I think you're coming along😉👍🏻

2things you are punching the trigger second dont sight by one arrow and also you pull the bow in the wrong way because this causes to get injury easier

Now, when you sight in at 20 are you 20 from the tip of the arrow or 20 from your right hand at full draw? Or do you split the difference? An important distinction you know. With a slow moving high arch projectile like you're shooting one must be precise both physically and intellectually. Even after many years of shooting some feel it is the zen of the arrow while others feel it is 23.6 inches.

Love your draw cycle. Keeping it low like that provides less movement for the game to see.
