I’m watching this while I do an assignment, for the back ground noise as his voice is very soothing. When he got excited about the ladder I had too watch to see what got him worked up.

The real reason I love watching your videos and your travels is that they are very informative, entertaining and hilarious. The other part is the fact that you like things to be very practical and simplified for the user. I like that. The passion is on steroids really 😁.

The drawer system that holds both fridge and cook top is just on another level! Great use of space. Also, two foldable legs on that extended tray could really aid on stability and strength when using the kitchen drawer.

We have a Gen3 tent by Alucab and changed the ladder to a telescopic one. Bought it cheap on Amazon. And mounted Alucabs’ hinge thingy on it. For what I see Alucabs’ system to connect the ladder to the tent is a bit easier. Also after rain I wouldn’t put the ladder in the tent. The tubes of these kind of ladders tend to fill with water during rain.

What a perfect way to start the weekend! great video, cant wait for you trying the build on a trip. 17:48 there are nice waterproof bags for your shoes which you can fix to the tent. Theyre hanging outside so you dont even have to move your shoes through the tents inside. Sheepie is selling those as well as many European tent manufacturers like Maggiolina or James Baroud. I think Thule also has those shoe bags. I also hope that more and more tent manufacturers will move to the in-built roof rack for aluminium tents. Often it just needs one company to start this, and the rest of them will follow.

@ Outback Joe... The design ideas are very similar to that of AluCab's ShadowAwn, which has anchor straps stowed in the arms. We have set ours up and anchored with storm pegs in very bad continuos wind for almost two weeks without a problem. The design seems sturdy. Fitted solidly to the side of the vehicle and with propper anchoring, it should not be a problem at all.

Nice Andrew, well done! I have the same setup on my 105, a couple comments: 1. The telescopic ladder - if the "telescopic portions" are not clicked and locked, the ladder will tend to "creep" towards the side of the car and then one has trouble getting your feet onto the rungs, and also risk scratching / damaging the side of the vehicle. Also, I originally had my ladder in the same position as yours but then I moved it 6 inches towards the rear because we couldn't open the back door to gain access to articles needed for camping in there. A local manufacturer here in Limpopo has designed a really nice much smaller permanent ladder that bolts onto the side of the vehicle, and one uses the rear tyre to step up, brilliant, I'm getting one of those! 2. The roof-rack issue: I like to have a separate roof-rack on the vehicle as it allows one to load articles up there when one is not on holiday / touring, that takes off the 84kg tent. I remove my tent when I have the car at home for several months using a setup in my garage utilising the winch as a lift mechanism; can do it alone easily. 3. I moved my fridge setup to behind the drivers seat - removed the rear seats and built a flat, all-framed, carpeted board with tie-downs and that gives me a lot more space at the back for all the other items for safari. Great rig, thanks for the reviews, go well.

Go Fast Campers in the USA has been doing what you’re talking about at 3:00 for some time now. The entire perimeter of the tent is channel that awaits your t-nuts and ideas. Best part is that if you have a 5th gen 4Runner it bolts right up to the roof with a set of very low brackets.

Hi Andrew... Really enjoyed your overview of QuickPitch. Added here my take home message to a friend... "I saw the kit in the factory a week or so before Andrew was due in Pretoria, and missed him by a day after he left. The kit is really nice... Expensive, but then again cheaper than AluCab. AluCab's Expedition 3 rooftop is the benchmark in many ways.... I have compared it many many times to our CustomLeisureTech. Now three years later and the Rand useless (and AluCab having smelled the dollars), you look at 40K for the Expedition3, 27K for the QuickPitch and around 20K for the older model CustomLeisureTech. CustomLeisureTech now does a double scissor action one (all Aluminium) for around 26K. QuickPitch measures up in all aspects to the Expedition3, but I reckon on some technicalities it to be even better." Looking forward to that trip review!

Andrew you'll learn to hate that ladder. September last year we did a 9 day trip to Norway, which it rained the first 8 days. Everyday we had to deal with water issues from that ladder when packing up the RTT. I even got the bright idea to place a few holes in the bottom rubber foot of the ladder which did help to drain the rain water but at each slide of each section of the ladder continued to collect rain water. There has to be a better design for collapsible ladders for those who travel in not so ideal weather conditions.

some advice for your ladder if I may, rope and peg it into place once set up, when you toss and turn during the night the ladder creeps back toward your car and scratches your paint work. Also I have a RTT with a gap in the front of it that you can run your finger along and in 5 years never had it leak.

Love this Cruiser, I have one very very similar in design minus the roof top tent, which will be following very closely as have been looking at them. I built a similar kitchen to cross the Simpson Desert last year and it works well. Looking at some gull wing windows at the moment for side access, need to be fitted for the Gibb River Road in July. Also in Perth, can't believe the similarity, except ours is blue.

For the ladder, your shoebag suggestion should double up as a storage bag for the ladder, which will no doubt get dirty on a trip, saves having a dirty ladder on your bedding and having to clean tent inside 😅

Excellent stuff Andrew. Just a comment on your idea of a bag for dirty shoes on the outside, while its a good idea I have had a number of occasions where Hyenas with a fetish for shoes have tried to jump up and take them, especially if they are leather shoes. We used to tie the laces together over the top rung of the ladder but nearly lost our shoes to a persistent Hyena.

I’ll give an advise Andrew. I can see that there is an effort climbing up on the tail gate to reach the tent. Put a small ladder on the left side of the gate. That would save you from climbing with your knees on to it every evening and morning. If I know you right you will be utterly annoyed by climbing that tail gate twice a day.

Very interesting. A couple of points.... Continuity problem with the packing/ kitchen unit and fridge sequence, the fridge appears and disappears swapping with a yellow ammo box a couple of times, very discombobulating, at first I thought it was the Merlot! Also the ladders mounting bracket on the tent needs to be back 30 cm to allow the Cruiser's back starboard door to open whilst the ladder is in situ against the tent; there appears to be room for this. Sod's law dictates that you will want to open that door when the ladder is in place.

Looking good, although I'm still not convinced by the shower curtain. Seems to be overengineered for a problem that really isn't a problem, but on a show build for a company it's hardly a big deal. For the ultimate upgrade on the bed, look for a 'Fanello' matress that fits & you'll have the best sleep of your life in a tent ever 👍

Thanks so much. These reviews are extremely useful. I am looking to covert my 2019 Armada for weekend camping excursions and I'm leaning towards the iKamper Skycamp. It's very pricey but at 72 kg, it's extremely lightweight and I have yet to see any other rooftop tent that is simpler to open/close. BTW, they also make a shoe rack and outer storage shelf that attaches to the underside of the tent.
