"The end of the Highlander Way of Life..."
The series of Jacobite Rebellions is an interesting history that is often forgotten (or rarely talked about) in British history, perhaps because of the bigger events happening in Europe at the time. It's a sad, doomed history that divided many. Brothers from the same families fought on opposing sides, I’m sure there is evidence of this happening to 2 brothers.
An interesting fact that I learned was that there were more Scots fighting for the British Govt rather than for Bonnie Prince Charlie! The Bonnie Prince believed that he could unite Britain behind his cause because of his divine rights, Catholicism, and the Stuart name. However, I believe it was only the highlanders who joined because the lowlands (parts of), England, and Wales were primarily Protestant, not Catholics. Most of the support was France, Ireland, and Italian allies who never truly delivered what Bonnie Prince Charlie thought they would. It's a sadness that the Highlanders were the ones to take the fall for it in the end.
A few years ago in A Levels I wrote my EPQ on the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 and still enjoy reading about it to this very day. Thanks to Outlander and my holiday in Highlands for telling me about this history.
I think Outlander portrays it beautifully, the love story and sending Claire back through the stones only enhances the sadness and epicness! Definitely one of my favourite episodes, Dragonfly in Amber.

@@RMFilmStudios I understand you, they died for the king and the country. They believed they could win somehow because they wanted a Catholic Scottish king on throne. They wanted it so bad that they gave their lives and they all. These men were the bravest warriors of all 🌹

Crikey, what a video. Thanks for sharing. I remember the best childhood spent visiting my gran up there, we’d always go and leave flowers on our clan marker on the weekend closest. I was fairly oblivious tbh would run all over the shop, picking flowers to put down and we’d always take some heather home. That’s our blood in that soil, this was a masterpiece.

Well, RM.As you see I am finding more of your In-depth account’s of Scottish History, Perfectly Portrayed by our ‘Outlander’ Hero’s, with Jamie at the Helm, ‘Culloden’ was one place that left me Speechless, when my Late Husband and I Visited some 30year’s ago, so Silent and Sad! Bonny Prince Charlie was so certain God was on his side!! This is a Perfect Take on a slice of Scottish History, I have a tear in my eye’s after this one! Speechless Again! the Sassenach.

Robbie, oh my goodness!! ! Chronologically, this is the work of art with each successive one!! I’m oso very proud of you and what you accomplish, Robbie!! Blessings, dear Robbie, from southern Sassanach2 sister, Gran-Tari! *i think Diana Gabaldon would love this, Robbie, ya ken? 😊 This was made before my Sassanach sisters and I came together on one of your videos in March 2020, as you can see from Bernice’s comments above!! You brought us together on that earlier video, melded us together with each subsequent video and with a deep love of Outlander and Scotland! Thank you, again, dear Robbie for that too! Blessings from the heart!! ❤️🙏🏼📚📚📚🎥🎞🎬📺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿’;i*

Alright. I'll start watching Outlander. I've been doing tons of reading on the Scottish borders. The show actually depicts the weapons accurately. The title card shows the classic lang spear "border lance" in action. A brutal weapon used by my Clan. It was their primary weapon. The hook on the opposite side was used to disembowel horses. The tip for thrusting. The axe for downward strikes once enemies fell from their horses. It's a real border clans weapon since most the riding clans used them. Border reiver culture was tied very closely to their horses. Lots of conflicts and fights done on horseback. You hardly see this lance used in any modern media depictions of Scotland. Never knew if Outlander was for me since it's romance. But I can't ignore it after seeing a lang spear.

If they just poisoned the bonnie prince in his tea while they were still in France none of this would of happened... ehm., in Outlander 😆 . And why must Claire ask Jamie to stop Culloden in the first place? The man was just tortured by Black Jack, they finally escape and the second Jamie is on a ship leaving Scotland.. Claire's like "I know you almost got executed and was tortured and rape... but hey let's stop a war from happening.. so if you can get over being tortured and whatnot can we like go back to Scotland and change history? I should of asked ya before but let's do it now!"

They made King Charles look like a fool. That’s what’s truly tragic here, least he was brave enough to try and keep the old Europe alive. I’m German American but Robert Burns was right, we were sold for gold, not even the mongols could best the west on the battlefield.

Charles Edward Stuart was an ambitious fool. He was relying on French intervention for the success of his rebellion, which never arrived. He relied on the advice of a drunken Quartermaster John Sullivan, who failed him miserably, and he grossly underestimated the military capabilities of the Duke of Cumberland and the seasoned troops he brought to Culloden. This is what happens when you send a Feudal army against a modern one.
