Can I replace the outlet covers myself?
Introduction
Replacing an outlet cover is a quick and easy process. You may need a screwdriver, but that's all you'll need unless you're replacing a fancy or complicated outlet. This tutorial will walk you through the steps of removing your old cover and replacing it with a new one.
Yes, you can.
Yes, you can. Replacing an outlet cover is a very easy project and shouldn't take much time at all. To begin, turn off the power by flipping off your breaker switch or locating an electrical box with a red sticker that says "OFF." Next, use a screwdriver to remove the old outlet cover by loosening its screws--there should be two on either side of the outlet itself. After removing both sides of your old outlet cover, put them aside so that they don't get lost while working on installing your new one!
Now comes time for installation: simply line up your new outlet cover with its position overtop where there used to be one beforehand (you'll want it centered vertically between two screws), then place four screws back into place through each corner hole until tight enough so there's no movement when pushed down gently upon these four points; finally finish up by tightening down these same four screws even further until secure enough not move again when pushed down gently again
You may need a screwdriver.
As you're taking the outlet cover off, you may find that there are screws holding it in place. If so, you'll need a screwdriver to remove them and then you'll be able to pull out the old outlet.
If your home has been built recently (within the last couple of decades), then there's a good chance that your electrical system is configured in such a way that makes it easy for homeowners to install their own new outlets and switches without having to call an electrician. This is because most modern homes use an "unlocked" wiring design: instead of having each wire connected directly into an electrical box with no flexibility for changing things around later on down the line--which was common practice in older homes--newer systems use wires that connect into junction boxes at different points throughout your house so they can be moved around easily if needed without having any adverse effects on other parts of your home's electrical system (and if something does go wrong during installation...you've got backup!).
The outlet you're working on could be a bit tricky.
The outlet you're working on could be a bit tricky. If it's behind furniture, or in a hard-to-reach place and you can't see the wires, then it will take some extra effort to replace the outlet cover.
If this is the case for your project, try using an extension cord with a light attached (you can buy these at any hardware store). This way, when you turn on the light switch for that room or area of your house (like turning on all the lights), there will be enough illumination so that even if it's dark outside or inside where you are working at night time after work hours then this should help give enough light so that no one trips over anything while doing so!
Make sure you know where the wiring is before you begin.

Don't touch the wires, especially if they're hot or live.
Don't cut the wires with any sharp tools, as this can cause an electrical shock and/or fire to occur.
Don't pull on the wires--they might be connected to something important like a light fixture or outlet that could fall down and hurt someone as a result of being pulled too hard!
Likewise, don't push on anything that may be attached via a screw or bolt: You could break something if you do this wrong! Instead of pushing or pulling, try turning things instead (like screws).
Replacing an outlet cover is quick and easy to do, but make sure that you don't damage anything else in the process!

Make sure you know where the wiring is before you begin. If there's a light switch near your outlet, turn it off at the main breaker box. You'll also want to turn off any other circuits that share power with this circuit; if there are any outlets or switches on other walls, flip their breakers as well.
Have a screwdriver ready to remove screws holding old covers in place (they're usually just Phillips heads). If they're screwed down tightly enough, use pliers instead of trying to force them out with your fingers--you could end up getting hurt if they slip out of place while being removed! Also, be careful not to damage anything else nearby while working; keep pets away from work areas so they don't knock anything over accidentally!

This is a horrible idea. Electrical plugs are designed to be inserted a certain distance into the receptacle in order to touch the contacts inside and remain in place. This increases the chances of a loose connection and a short. Covers like this need to be banned. They're usually used by cheapskate landlords.
