I'm going to take a few minute to answers some of the most common questions that seem to be asked about this video. First, what does "Hours of Service" mean. Some of my viewers have already answered this question and I thank you for that.....for those that don't read all the comments, basically, a CDL driver on E-logs has a limited daily clock. Once they log in on their electronic log system that clock runs continuously. If a driver is held up for any reason that clock is still ticking away. Once the clock reaches their, typically 14 hour, day, they must shut down or the driver and the company can face large fines. In this instance, I believe the driver was delayed at the shipper, but I could be wrong. Second question, "Why didn't we or the trucking company send another CDL driver to simply drive the truck to a "safe haven"?.....Very valid question. Each company has different policies on this and most of those policies revolve around two things, insurance liability and the E-log system. Some companies are not insured to allow non-company drivers to drive their truck unless there is a contract in place, thus they call a towing company and the towing company's insurance is liable for the truck at that point. The second part of this question is the ability of the E-logs to allow a non-company driver to log in. If it is a non-company driver, the E-log system may not be set up to allow another driver to log in. Also, the E-log system may not allow movement past the daily clock without logging it as a violation of the "Hours of Service", which, again, can be costly to the driver and the company. Again, this varies from company to company and how each has their E-log systems set up. Some do have some "wiggle room" to allow a driver to reach a safe-haven. Next question, "Why do I remove the driveshaft"? Very simple answer, to remove the risk of damaging the transmission while the unit is being towed. And, lastly, several viewers have made mention that the time/date stamp on my new dash cam is incorrect. Actually, they are correct. Most of my videos aren't posted on the same day that they are recorded. It take a lot of time to download, edit, process, and upload the videos. Some of the videos aren't posted for several months for other reasons, so my videos aren't necessarily in chronological order. People will call the driver all kinds of names, but what he did here was exactly what he needed to do. More drivers need to stand their ground, & do what they are suppose to do.

Hello Ron, I had to make another comment after watching the entire video. I am without a doubt a fan of your videos, but moreover your continuous professionalism in each of them. The respect you not only show clients but for your equipment is awesome. When I ran wreckers in the late 90's and early 2000's there were a lot of operators who I must say were more like drivers that did not respect the equipment, used certain equipment not for it's intended reasons, yes I know sometimes we must improvise but NOT at risk of the safety to ourselves and our equipment. While I never owned my own wrecker business I treated every truck I drove like it was my own, and I learned how it worked. The object is to work smarter not harder, and I'm sure you would agree a true operator knows how to make the truck do 90% of the work as it is intended to do. Towing & Recovery is the same as trucking and hauling, What you do is not your job, it's not your career it's your lifestyle and you either love it or you don't there are no in between's . I must thank you again for posting these videos, as a former wrecker operator each time I watch I feel as if I'm right there in the driver's seat running to the call. e-logs. Another reason I like doing drive-away. We are, for the time being at least, exempt from them. If they bothered to do some fact finding in real life, they would find that the hours of service laws are just as capable of forcing a driver to drive when he should be catching a nap, and forcing one to sit when they are slept out and unable to sleep anymore. In essence, they are causing the very situations they are trying to prevent.

The hours-of-service regulations focus on when and how long you are allowed to drive by placing specific limits on the amount of time you drive your truck and how many total hours you can work before you are no longer permitted to drive a commercial motor vehicle. You must follow three maximum duty limits at all times. They are the 14-hour “driving window” limit, 11-hour driving limit, and 60-hour/7-day and 70-hour/8-day duty limits

Got to go with the GoPro Ron. I like the volume better, I like the idea of looking where you're looking, and I like the color better. I also like the idea of being able to see the inside of your cab as you're driving.

Love how you're so on top of the safety aspect, I don't work with heavy machinery but the tools we do use are designed to cut and grind through flesh and bone. My boss only cares about getting the job done and not spending money.

I've driven to a safe haven several times without hours. The day my company calls a tow truck because I'm out of hours is the day I quit

A professional driver is only allowed to drive 11 hours per day and during that time has to take a 30 minute break. His or Her duty day can only be 14 hours at which time the driver MUST go off duty for a minimum of 10 hours. If they have a sleeper on the truck, the can log sleeper berth time instead of off duty.

Helmet cam best because I see much more.... Like I am in the driver's seat. Too old now am I for the road. Your videos put me back in the truck. Many thanks.

In CA, Phillips 66 all closed several decades ago. I assumed they were merged out. Glad to see that they are still in business. Wish they were still here on the West Coast.

Been to that location (P&G) several times always had a pleasant experience. Major companies such as swift Schneider and US Express have eld’s (electronic logging device) which severely limits any and all drivers who use them. Companies who have glider truck, basically a new truck with an older engine, don’t have to use the eld’s. A CDL holder has a 14 hr day. Inside 14 hrs, the driver can only drive 11 hrs with a 30 minute break between the 3rd and 8th hr. It is indeed very confusing to anyone who doesn’t have a CDL. I have definitely enjoyed watching your videos Mr. Pratt. Keep up the good work stay safe God bless you and your family!

Ron I've been watching you videos and really enjoy watching game the work you and your guys do. I wanted to give you a tip though. I noticed you struggled to get the driveshaft disconnected from the front power divider in this video. One thing I do to help is drive a chisel in the small gap between the yoke and the cap of the u-joint. It is a lot easier than fighting a large pry bar under a truck and it has always worked great for me. Be safe and god bless.

Running a small tow company myself I must say you are a true professional and very skilled dealing with people. I think alot of people don't understand how hard it can be dealing with some customers cause they either stressed cause there car is broken down or shaking up cause of an Accident and dealing with them is a big part of the business. Your video's are an great example how to treat people and communicate with each other and even tho I don't personally know you I respect you for that. Living in a city that is mainly catering for foreign student's and foreign holiday makers language barriers are often an issue on the job and can cause people to get stressed but I always find friendlyness a smile and communicating with hand and feet makes it all work like magic. I wish we could use fancy trucks like your over here and I'm pretty jealous that you got sirens on your truck lol excuse my English it's not my first language. Have a happy new year and God bless.

Ron, someone beat me to it. I was going to call your shop to see where to send the very same GearRatchet set. I am glad someone else thaught about it also. These are some of the best tools I have ever used. I even prefer them to Snap-on. They are just as good at 1/4 of the price and the warranty is even better.

Those gear ratchets are very handy to have, got a few sets in the shop and I've actually wore out a few wrenches, often the first wrench I grab so they get used all the time

I always hated having to pull the drive shafts when I was in the Semi towing business. If the Engineers had to pull a few driveshafts on a 100 degree plus days laying on hot asphalt I bet they would design a better system lol Great video as always Ron. Thank you for sharing with us. The sound is good. The ride seems smooth. I like the fact that you explain things about what you are doing also. The mirrors don't do this back up any justice. I have a hard time just backing my "little" trailer up the driveway!!
