My Dad also didn't really support me in sports as well. He came to one of my HS football games, and one of my HS wrestling matches(I got pinned!) Never saw me play hockey, and hated that I raced BMX, he thought it was juvenile. When I was 22 years old, I visited him and put in this video tape (1990!), and he and I sat there together in the living room and watched the whole thing. He was captivated by it, he was excited and smiling, and glued to the TV. That was a great moment in time that we shared together. I think he realized the passion, and importance of sports in your kid's life. I was the oldest and first born, and there are NO instructions on raising a child! I found that out myself as a father of three! I absolutely don't have any blame for my father. He is gone now, but he NEVER MISSED A GAME OR COMPETITION of my two younger brothers. I attribute that to one of my two heroes in life, Wayne Gretzky.

What’s fascinating is he had exactly the same hunched over skating style and the same playing style when he was a young kid in peewee (weaving in and out in circles and finding the seams and holes)…all the while with his head up. Nothing changed. No wonder he scored almost 400 goals in one season at age 10 playing against 14 year olds.

That is 100% true. My brother played against him in Junior A and 11 years in the NHL as a defenseman. He said that Gretzky was the only guy he played against, that could go from one end to the other without looking down at the puck once! Nobody..not Messier..or even Lemieux could do that. And the other thing was being able to be in full flight and suddenly stop on a dime….as the defenseman suddenly just gave up an extra 10-15 feet sometimes….
