Ovens Rocky Mountain Bushcraft

4 жыл бұрын

Zach takes Greg up to his bushcraft survival shelter from his "87 Days" series. They cook up a fireside venison feast and Greg tells his life story, explaining how he got into bushcraft, and his plans to get OUT of drywall.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Love your channel Zach. You mentioned trying to fashion a trap that would not only set the hook but reel the fish in. I'm 63 yrs old and grew up in Louisiana. Back in the late 60s early 70s I was introduced to something like that by my cousin who grew up in the Honey Island swamps. It was called a yo-yo. We fished the cypress lakes around Shreveport and would stay up all night running our yo-yo lines and trot lines with great results. It seems that the yo-yo's have faded away over the years but I believe you would be very intrigued by the concept. So, I think you would find them to be very useful, and with your creativity, something you could improve and perhaps market to a new generation that would embrace this tool to aid in becoming self reliant. Keep up the good work!

I'm a Colorado native who got inspired to pursue bushcraft further by first, the 30 day challange, then got into alone, then Zach and the rest of your videos. I would love to see more and shorter videos about buulding specific traps, rather than skipping through the long videos, especially more specifics on Rocky Mountain plants, your bow drill trick, you mentioned the sandwich bag fire starting, different fishing tricks, etc. Love it all, always liking and sharing!!

Thank you for sharing your life story with us, Greg. You have a comforting and familiar presence on screen, I love that you aren't trying to be all wacky and hyperactive to 'engage' viewers, as many people do on KZfaq. As an Aussie, it would be awesome if you came down under and did some videos here. There aren't many books that include edible plants in Victoria (southernmost state on the mainland of Australia), especially with good quality pictures. Wild foraging programs were popular here until all the lockdowns, which have prevailed on and off for almost 2 years in Melbourne. So many of us would buy your books!

I’m incredibly happy to have stumbled onto Zach’s channel and then of course now oven’s and bearded Woodsman. You bring a completely new and really relaxed version of bush living to reality. Very much appreciate what you do and how you are doing it.

Oh god please let this channel work for this awesome adventurer. My own dear brother was in the trades in New Orleans, pounding all those nails working from ladders with two hands over his head. It leaves a mark and over 50 dudes feel the pain more than most. Enjoy your life folks it goes by quick. Good luck Mr. Ovens, love the honesty, and the down home attitude.

Great to hear your back story Greg. Really enjoyed hearing about the books you've read. It's the best age for exploring books and discovering how you can enjoy your life, and you seem to have done it so well. Would totally buy and read your book if you made one!
