This election season, the Election Commission has faced scrutiny on multiple fronts. They have failed to curb hate speech and have not released the actual voter turnout numbers, leading to an unprecedented situation. Journalist associations are now questioning why the ECI is not holding press conferences after each phase of voting. Pooja Prasanna speaks to transparency activist Anjali Bharadwaj on discrepancy in the initial and final voter turnout percentages, EC not releasing the actual numbers and suspicions of whether data is being doctored. Serial hate speeches by Modi have been allowed, with not even a notice served to him by the EC. This despite the Muslim community being targeted multiple times by both Modi and BJP.

Our last hope, the Supreme court didn't act on the partisan type Bill passed by the Government on Selection committee formation for selecting Election Commissioner . Now if it doesn't act fast to send a stern message to EC on transparent & fair elections, it will be very late and almost disastrous once the elections are over. That will be point of no return even for Supreme court for its lack of alacrity.

Erectionless Commission of India, packed with retired Indian Aloo Service officers, who , while in service, were at beck and call of their ministers ; and also their pucca " yesmen ". The present lot of Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners are a disgrace on Indian Administrative Service. Madams, mere You Tube debates in air-conditioned rooms are not fruitful . Launch satyagraha of Gandhiji, hit the streets and move with healthy cartoons of CEI and two Election Commissioners all over the country, including near their houses.

This election is wierd. A terrible ECI, no end to the communalism and lies...The voting percentage is pretty low - could it also be this prolonged and tortuous election? Ms Anjali Bharadwaj is absolutely right in her observation that the incumbent CEC and three other Election Commissioners. are working under the veil of secrecy . The ECI which is vested with the power and authority as provided in Article 324 of the Constitution, to superintend, control and direct the conduct of Assembly/ Parliamentary elections in an independent and transparent manner. But the current ECI has failed the citizens of this country in discharging its onerous duties and responsibilities. It is extremely unfortunate.

In the 1st phase of voting in South India that is Tamilnadu.Where Modi is not wanted. When people asked for the total number of votes casted . The EC never gave total but gave the percentage that is 62% that to after 11day and then after a few days gave another number says that there was some mistake or mismatch when compared that number to the first 62%. We come to know that 47 lakhs added. Same thing happened to other states. Which is why it's gone to the SC if you check the videos of after the first phase in Tamilnadu you will see that 47 lakhs is added. God save our country and our people

It's not rocket science, one CANNOT put out percentage figures, UNLESS the ACTUAL numbers of voter turnout is KNOWN!!! 1. *It's NO rocket science that percentages can ONLY be put out, if the ACTUAL voter turnout numbers are known*. 2. *The very fact that the ECI is not disclosing this information clearly indicates LACK of TRANSPARENCY in the DEMOCRATIC framework for elections.* 3. *Especially, as these have to be FREE and FAIR.* 4. *Besides, the selection process is biased towards the ruling party and if there is NO TRASPARENCY and FAIRNESS, then the whole purpose is defeated., if NOT CORRUPTED.* 5. *This is the acid test for good governance*

You put points across so clearly. I wonder if the bias is so glaringly visible, why SC / CJI are still choosing to not taking any action? It clearly shows that our judiciary system have forgotten their duties towards common man. We dont know the reason. But can imagine similar situations in Russia nd Israel some other countries. Our judiciary gives right judgement only on some cases to gain confidence of people but for EVM nd VVPAT counting SC verdict was biased as Justice Khanna and it was such an imp matter for securing the trust and transperency in the election results for the people of India, still CJI didnt didnt look into that but gave it to Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Such a sorry state of affairs.

Elementary Arithmetic: percentages are calculated from actual absolute numbers, not the other way around. SO WHY HIDE THE NUMBERS FROM WHICH PERCENTAGE WAS CALCULATED???
