@@chrisstaub5880 I'm not a fan of college, but I wouldn't advise students to wait until they have at least $80,000 saved before going to college. I also would rather pay a mortgage than to pay rent (that constantly goes up) while trying to save to pay cash for a house. Emergencies also happen. When you have a car and it breaks down, but don't already have money set aside to go ahead and pay cash for another vehicle, you usually get stuck with an auto loan.

It is amazing how some people feel so comfortable spending so much money. I enjoy spending close to $0 every month. I also make finance videos. Keep up the great work, Dave!

Several years ago, I used to work for a student federal loan servicer. The loan forgiveness programs were kind of just starting. My advice, if you can pay off your loans in less than 10 years, DO IT. Anything can happen in your life. I personally did not trust those programs would work out then, and I don’t now, especially with our current administration. Even though I would have qualified for the 10 year program, I paid my loans off as soon as possible. Turns out people are now having issues with the program.

My niece got that same offer - she kept making her payments, and ended up getting sick of that school, and took a better offer. Good thing she was smart and paid her loan. Forget the forgiveness fraud!!

Why do people get student loans and don’t get jobs to help them pay them off. It’s sad that such an easy lesson is not leant. You need to cash flow your education, period!
@GARNET-DAGGER-FF94 жыл бұрын
In hindsight it's an easy lesson but you have to remember that people were basically brainwashed throughout 12 years of school into believing if they went to college they would automatically get a job no matter what degree they got
@Aeroliten4 жыл бұрын
Not getting jobs isn't 100 percent up to the person looking. My wife has experience and a degree and yet no one wants to hire unless they underpay people with degrees. The only people who usually get their moneysworth is MBA and engineers/programmers.

FWIW -- My wife had around $18k "forgiven" via a "teacher loan forgiveness" program. I forgot the specifics, but she had maintained perfect payments and worked in a title 1 school for 5 consecutive years. She had her principal complete paperwork, and she made sure everything was 100% perfect. And incredibly, it actually happened! No idea if she's a unicorn, or if this program is now ended.
