Dear Colm, i once was supposed to be somewhat like a Irish Folk / Shanty Musician back in my days in my twens. I lost most of my Motivation after my divorce and beeing away from my children , and from there on i downspiral mostly everything in my Life. Beeing traped in the dark and moist for very long. So as i began listening to your Irish Folk and Shanty Songs a year ago, i started the first time for many many years again with music. Brought my Irish Bouzuki and guitars up from the cellar and began to play. Now, after a time of practicing and waking up the muscle memory i am booked again and singing and playing with joy and Cheer in several pubs, marriages and where ever. So i just wanted to say: thank you Colm! for doing what you doing and i wish you all the best and keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany (:

Something that you might not get enough credit for, Colm, is the presentation. There's a light in your eyes singing these songs that's just so contagious. You look like you believe in what you're singing and the audience as well. Suffice to say, this song's gotten me through tough times as of recently and I couldn't be more thankful that art like yours exists.

Colm McGuinnes belongs to a specific category of musicians that I deem my "Comfort Artists". Every single time a notification brings me here, I immediately know that the next few minutes will fix a bad mood, dilute anger, relax the nerves or give me some well needed energy. I have been religiously following this channel for a while now, and NEVER have I been disappointed, and I consider myself a picky bloke when it comes to music! His music has impacted my life in ways I can't even explain, and I feel a very strange bond with it that I cannot fully explain. One sure thing is that his work helped me through treacherous waters, giving me the energy to sail out of the many storms that this year has had for me, and for that I'm most grateful.

Like the Last Length, this song has a certain heartwarming melancholy to it, like the end of a grand adventure with friends you won't see again for a while.

For my money, the best kind of sea shanty is the sort that makes you homesick for a place you've never been. And this is definitely one of them. Thank you.

I just...I love this. A lot of shanties are sung in minor keys, talking about long times at sea and how much it sucks. And this has that, but there's a note of hope at the end, that we can get back to shore and walk away from this life. It's just...it's fantastic.

Our 6 month old has been calmed by Colm since birth (honestly, the second he starts to sing our little guy stops crying) now when we put the videos on he smiles and talks to Colm, it's adorable.

Love this ❤ Even though I've only listened to a few times, it feels so nostalgic - it's the kind of song you'd hear playing at the end of a sailing adventure movie when the journey is over and the company is going to the bar together one last time, then they slowly say goodbye one by one as they part ways and you see each one move onto the next chapter of their life- Maybe you see some finding work on different ships, maybe one becomes a captain on a famous vessel, one settles down and starts a family with the girl he swore to come back to, one sets off on foot to back home to his village and you see him meet all of his family and friends again, one starts a tavern of his own and hangs his old trusty hat on a peg above the bar with a crooked, bittersweet smile - I just get such an overall fond and satisfied yet bittersweet parting feeling when I listen to this ❤

The title reminds me of pirates of the carribean which is (as I've learned in the comments of roll northumbria) really fitting for a shanty. However it doesn't matter because it's a shanty and shanties are always awesome!
