@Aliaholic123 Pearson Anglo-Irish are English settlers in Ireland who in some cases have lived there since the 1100s. They are their own ethnic group now, and their own culture. I am descended from Anglo-Irish settlers partially. I am also Ulster (a province in Ireland)-Scottish. Both are ethnic groups constantly being threatened by Irish Nationalists who want to maintain the ethnic purity of Ireland.

I am friends with Anglo-Irish though, and personally identify as such, and the Irish don't treat us well. It's complicated, to make matters brief, under Elizabeth I some Lords chaffed under new laws while most were fine with it, laws that were designed to make Ireland less tribal (Ireland had a lot in common with Native Americans and was the least advanced culture in Europe), as I said, most Lords were fine with it, and it was passed with consent of the Irish Parliament. However, those Lords who did not agree with it started slaughtering the Anglo-Irish. This could also be traced to the Medieval Era when some Irish did this as well and saw the English as Gaelitic, Irish for practically barbarians. If you weren't Irish you weren't anything, even the Scottish who speak the same language were treated harshly in the Irish mindset at this time. However, the nature of these conflicts was different, more about land, less violent in some cases, kind of. Intermarriage was common. In the 1600s the Catholic Church started telling the Irish to kill the Anglo-Irish and Scottish, saying that they were heretics (for being Protestant) and God would love them for it, so they then attempted genocide. When the Irish Lords who participated or stayed neutral in the conflict were punished by in the case of the guilty (losing all of their land and being granted new land in the West of the country) and the non-aligned (losing some, most likely for abetting a genocidal regime), it caused resentment. The Irish hated the Anglo-Irish settlers who had been granted portions of their land, and in 1690 they launched a coup and decided to ethnic cleanse people again, before they could, they were stopped. Then laws were placed on the Irish making it illegal for them to own weapons, breaking up land ownership into smaller pieces so less men could be raised in an army from a single person, and making them responsible for the damages occurred by Catholic Nations seeking to invade Ireland and aid the Irish in their struggle from what our perspective was to kill us all. Come the end of the 1700s, that movement dies, religious tolerance which was already best in England besides anywhere else save the Netherlands (in Europe) and those laws were gradually all repealed, but the damage was done in the minds of those who wanted land back. So they started a new movement for Home Rule which advocated for you guessed it, genocide of the non-Native Irish in Ireland. The British government under the Liberals even aligned with them, thinking they could be persuaded to accept the Union between Britain and Ireland by kindness, that backfired 100 years later and the Irish DID commit genocide against them and killed any Catholic rising to their defense or the defense of the United Kingdom. The IRA went throughout the countryside, killing "Capitalist, Imperialist whores", mostly Protestants and mostly Anglo-Irish and Ulster-Scottish, and any Catholic who dared offer a word in their defense. After Independence was won, 80% of the Protestant population of Southern Ireland would flee to Northern Ireland over the next 20 years after state sponsored discrimination and ethnic cleansing took place. The Protestants were herded into ghettos, forbidden from attending public schools, attending University or holding positions in government. Violence against Protestants was common, and even encouraged by the government, despite the Anglo-Irish trying to remain loyal to the new state despite desperately wanting to stay apart of the United Kingdom, which they felt was their country. Today the Anglo-Irish live mostly in Northern Ireland and constantly fear genocide if it should fall to the Republic of Ireland. Meanwhile the Biden Administration is telling Britain to "Get out of Ireland' and is putting pressure on Britain, this has led Britain to halfway abandon the Anglo-Irish, Ulster-Scottish and Irish Unionists (who seek to preserve the Union in the UK) and has caused renewed violence in a country where I still have family. I hate Trump, but Biden is racist against as we would say in Northern Ireland, my own. So I would not vote for either of the devils, so last November I voted Libertarian and Democrat down ballot. I feel a lot of Americans believe the Irish Catholic claim of martyrhood and victim status, when they gave as much and in most cases far more than they got and were far more harsh to us than we ever were to them. Not to mention, we did what we did to protect our people, they did what they did to take land back that was taken from them for rebelling against the Crown (which was the norm in Europe) or attempting to kill us. We are an endangered minority, who still wants to remain in the UK, and above all, alive, and we are constantly getting fucked by Americans who give money to those seeking to blow us up.

King George wasn't mad, he was a much maligned king! I served all my life, 1965 - 2005, as a Redcoat in a Scottish infantry regiment and never regretted a days service.

@@robertchurch3182 I lived in Singapore in the early '60's. Met many an old commonwealth sweat who had fought against the Japanese and returned to the area after the war/release from the camps. There was a common thread. Nobody could believe it when they were ordered to lay down their weapons. There were some more reluctant to fight than others (I know the story behind some of these and won't add my tuppence worth to their disgrace and demeanour) you can read about that in books such as Singapore - The Pregnable Fortress. Suffice to say just about every decision which led to the downfall of the peninsular and Singapore was down to the colonial leadership of the times - just bloody awful. Many thousands of good military people, British/Malay/Indian/Australian were destined for the POW camps not because they lacke the capability or the will to fight but because of the decisions made by imbeciles who had no idea what war was about. The Japanese were on the verge of retreating back up the peninsular as they had run out of food/ammo/replacements when Percival (a very brave and capable first war infantry officer) was told to surrender. He should have refused of course but did not and thus we have the greatest defeat and embarrasment ever suffered by the British Armed Forces. I repeat nothing to do with most of the men fighting though, most of them were still very much up for it.
