For the majority of BG3 I wasn't that keen on Astarion. I used him because he's handy, but i wasn't a fan..... but. By the time i finished helping him out with his storyline, I found I enjoyed participating in it with him more enjoyable than entire games I've played in recent years. The fact that his story is just one small corner of such a great narrative is mind-blowing 🤯

Loving the background music. Yep I think BG3 might be the best RPG I've ever played. Of course other ones fill me with nostalgic joy, and playing FF7 Remake, for example, provoked a lot of emotions, but BG3, in terms of quality, ambition, innovation, storytelling, immersion, is the best I've ever played. I can't split it any other way.

I'm pretty sure that putting the RNG back into the RPG genre has certainly helped. Harking back to the hay-day of Diablo I & II, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, and both of the previous entries in the Baldur's Gate series. Modern 'RPGs' feel more like Golden Axe or Streets of Rage than actual RPGs.

Agreed! Hanging something on a dice roll to decide your fate puts you on the edge of your seat even when the stakes are low. Makes every moment seem like it has weight and makes you want to ready another playthrough to see what would have happened if...

@@thecoffeeman1 I'd say that it is doubly so for combat. When there's a chance that your spell won't cast, or your blow might miss, it makes combat far more interesting. As well as making it more than just the gear check that you mentioned in the video.

Spot on. So many people really vilify RNG and randomness in their games, but so much of the iterative fun in games is experiencing new situations due to the inherent randomness (and therefore unpredictability) of the outcome. RNG done well enhances the stakes at play.

@markbrown2206
@markbrown2206 7 ай бұрын
@@TimmWith2Ms I think people vilify RNG because of the lack of options. If you battle through a dungeon and finally get to the look chest looking for that epic armour of the gods, only to have the one and only RNG roll give you a wedge of cheese, it's easy to vilify the RNG. Especially when the numbers and odds are hidden. Was that a 1 in 1000 chance or a 1 in 6? However, if I'm in BG3 trying to pick a lock to a chest and get found out by the guard, then fail my persuasion check to say "I thought there was where you kept the spare pens" (a 17 in 20 chance of success due to my stats and choices). I find myself in a cell and now it's the story of my prison escape. The options make the RNG fun. I've been watching a lets play between playing (I'm careful to stay ahead of any story spoilers) and I'm surprised at how different his game events are from mine. Not the big events, (druids, the three, the city) but the small details. That's just the type of good game design that we don't see much of nowadays. I would say that a good 50% of the possible story is hidden behind good or bad dice rolls. And it means that on my next playthrough, even if I make the same character and the same choices, I'll still have a significantly different story, just because of the RNG.

Gotta agree, verticality in the game is so good. Jump, especially with enhanced leap or some features that allow for insane jumping distance, and Misty Step (fly is also, tho more niche and costly one) are not only cool exploration tools, but also strategy-important skills/spells, make combat much more dynamic.

They did a great job not only tying it in to the last 2 pc titles but they even fit in lore names places and events from the console games (baldurs gate dark alliance 1 &2) they did a great job making a d&d rpg set in the sword coast . They did amazing all around . Love this game . Only issue I have are minor ones such as . Why can't we max out approval rating with companions but have a platonic friendship with then instead of everyone hitting on you . But that's not a huge deal as of right now . @@thecoffeeman1 Yeah, but in a tabletop game the DM usually somewhat selects magic items which fit the players and the characters they want to play, and they can also quest for the specific items they want. BG3 isn't quite as flexible, so they just give you more items so you can select your favourites for your build.

I’m obsessed with this game in a way I haven’t been for over 20 years, when I was still a teenager. For once, the hype is real. I was a bit skeptic about playing BG3 since I tried but never got into Divinity, but boy, am I glad I took the plunge. 50+ hours into BG3, I keep asking myself “there’s got to be a low point soon”, but it just never happens. Baldur’s Gate 3 is the game of the decade for me, and absolutely one of the top three games of all time. It is the pure essence of RPG:s, where every single choice ACTUALLY matters over the entire game and everything you do has consequences. Spectacular sound design and soundtrack, engaging and fun combat, amazing voice acting and animation. It’s a 12/10 for me. ❤❤❤

honestly, this game is really good and you don’t really notice just how good it actually is until you really look around and see all the subtle nuance that there is hidden away. Ultimately the choices you make in the things you do are more or less ephemeral because by the time you get to the end game, not really much matters you have a few options based on a few things you’ve done but that’s about it. However, when you explore all the little nooks and crannies and take different options along the way, it will make sure that by the time you reach and game you will have had a much richer experience and the weight of your choices will bear down on you much more heavily than if you just followed the most direct pass through the game just to get to the ending as quickly as possible. I think one of the biggest joys of this type of game is that each time you enter a combat or even just a different area you have 1 million different ways you could approach those scenarios. Like I said, if you just follow the most direct path, then the payoff will be less. but if you experiment and try different things go different places use different tactics then you will really be amazed by the breast and scope of this game in regards to the choices that you have with the situation.

One nitpick I have about BG3 is how easy you can access the different approaches to a situation. A bit hard to put into words what I mean, but I'll try with some examples. You mentioned how mobility plays into exploration, and a very useful tool for that is misty step. The issue I have is that I never got into a position where I thought "oh, I wish one of my party members had misty step right now", because there always would be someone. The gith get a misty step as a racial ability, nine of the classes can access the spell (though not all of their subclasses), and there are two items that grant you the spell. It's similar when it comes to jumping. I either have characters with high strength to jump far, or with the enhanced leap spell (or a potion of vaulting). How about talking to animals? Well, quite a few classes and one race can do that, but there are also enough potions of animal speaking in the game that you can go through an entire playthrough speaking to every single animal without ever needing anyone with the actual spell for it. A similar point can be made about speaking to the dead, thanks to a certain very early game item. Let's just say that I like how the game gives me a variety of tools to deal with every situation, but that it gives me too many of them. I'd like a little more moments where I'm limited in my options because of my party composition and what I have in my backpack. Pretty long comment for a nitpick, but it really is just a nitpick.

On the point of loot, the most important thing in BG3 is, the loot is meaningful. Any magic item you get is useful at least once or in a certain circumstance. There is this ring in act one that just gives you +1 to religion and +1 to arcana. Absolutely nothing special. But if you keep it around until act 3, it will come in useful when you get to a certain artifact beneath the city of Baldur's Gate. Yes, mundane loot is just a different kind of gold reward, but that ties into it's own minigame of selling items to vendors and as such it's a different kind of reward.

I feel like I have 1 million comments I need to just make a channel where I react to everybody. But I grew up playing dungeons and dragons to me. I love D&D, but it feels kind of antiquated to me like compared to just modern gaming in general. I feel like as of now what are we up to fifth edition the world has gone so weird with little things as far as the DND setting is concerned. I mean we got all the different weird stuff going on with your party members which I won’t get into to avoid spoilers. I mean I guess in the world of dungeons and dragons anything can happen and that’s kind of what BG three encapsulates, but I will never get tired of simple people, and with no crazy history, somehow going on a heroes journey and getting wrapped up in larger than life adventures

I have zero interest in whatever social media, Twitter, Facebook tick-tock any of that crap I just kind of sort of got into Facebook a little bit and other than that I just watch KZfaq that’s pretty much it if it doesn’t exist on KZfaq, I could care less about it. Watching people play video games or do anything else for that matter it’s pretty boring to me. The only exception was when I was watching Bob Ross paint on TV but even then I can only watch that shit for so long before falling asleep. I am a grab life by the horns kind of guy who gets out there and does what he wants and takes what he wants Mr‘s game I want to play. I’ll go out and play if there’s a thing I want to do I’ll go out and do it. So yeah, bottom line is Twitter change its name whatever I didn’t grow up in an era where social media even existed I kind of opted out of it and ignored it for the last 10 years or so.

Personally I barely consider skyrim an rpg. There's almost no actual role playing built in past character creation and The world is so unreactive it's weird. The fact that you can join the dark brotherhood and kill the emperor and it has no effect on the civil war is hilarious

World is a bit unreactive sure, but playing thief assassin khajit and one shotting enemies in legendary was seriously fun for me and helped cope with the decline of assassins creed.

If you love RPG games, but don't mind reading a lot, just like morrowind, you should check out Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous by Owlcat. It's a better rpg than bg3 imo. It does all the rpg aspects much better, but it's smaller production compared to bg3. but not really that indie either. i m surprised that you said no other rpg holds a torch to bg3 in the last 5y.. i m not saying bg3 is bad, i just think wotr executes on all the important rpg features a lot better. but it's less accessible cause it barely has any voice acting and the game mechanics are complex. but for a morrowind fan these shouldn't be an issue. so yeah, check it out!

I don't think it is better than BG 3. Maybe more character customization yes but not in RP aspect, like decision making and how your actions affect the world. Like for example you can't steal things in that game, while in BG3 you can pickpocket and steal. Fail and end up in jail, which makes your adventures take a different turn.

WOTR is a great game, but it is NOWHERE NEAR as good a game as Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s clunky, more linear, and offers less choice and consequence. And the Pathfinder rules are far less user-friendly when compared to D&D 5E.

I feel sorry that you enjoy mediocrity, playing other crpgs's free me from being fed slop like the little piggie i was from the bethesda trowel. Playing other games like dragon age origins, kenshi, wrath of the righteous, and monster hunter dos has opened my eyes as if i was on some kind of stimulant. I can tell tes vi is going to suck, imagine starfield without space; painfully bland slop from the slop factory.
