Overclocking The Ryzen 5 1600AF On The Stock Cooler - Silicon Lottery or House Fire?

Күн бұрынI'm in need of an upgrade but with the lack of stock for the Zen 3 Ryzen processors and the Nvidia 3000 series, an overclock of my Ryzen 5 1600AF is the only upgrade viable for me at the moment. The problem? I'm using the stock cooler, did I hit the silicon lottery or is this just a fire hazard. Lets find out!

3.50 ghz / auto stable 3.70 ghz / 1.2v stable 3.90 ghz / 1.3v stable 4.00 ghz / 1.3v stable 1600 af 😍

Just built a 1600af/ rx6600. Had an extra spire cooler so I put that on it. Havent ran cinebench. But in firestrike it boosted to 3.75ghz out of the box. I did use thermal grizzley kryoknaut paste. Meshify c. 2x140mm intake 2×120mm exhaust. The graphics card runs very cool as well. Did have pretty cold ambient temps. Below 20c, during my initial testing. Cpu score for timespy was 6000, 16764 for firestrike physics score.

Had to edit. Meant 3.75ghz out of the box. I'm used to my 5800x 🤣

Hi, today i try to make a little oc in my new 1600AF. At 3.8Ghz in 1.2875v is stable but it has been impossible to increase more hertz, at least with mi cheap b450.

I can shake your hand good sir. Yesterday got a 1600 af and reading on overclocks people got 3.9 ghz on 1.2v. My chip needs 1.387v under load to get 3.9 ghz. I lost the lottery also. The wall starts at 38.5 ghz. Im running it at 3.8 at 1.287. Its just these chips are 2600 dies that dont make the binning so its pretty bad for some samples :-) nice video though!!

Yeah I agree im still happy with it for the price I paid for originally, to get r5 2600 performance is great. In trying to upgrade to Zen 3 but its not been easy lol never in stock

Sucks you couldn’t push it more, but those stock coolers from AMD do a good job keeping the processors cool, even when adding an overclock.

Yeah they really do! I was surprised too, it wasn't stable at anything other then 1.325 at 3.7 would have really like to get atleast 3.8ghz but oh well!

Idk if u remember me, but a while ago I asked if you knew If the dierya dk63 was good. I recently bought its AMAZING. I would recommend you do a review on it to show others how good it is.(I also plan on doing a review on my channel, but no one watches me lol)

I also have a Ryzen 1600, only 14 nanometers. With factory cooling, 3800 mhz with 1.32 voltage. Value for money is still the best.

Its a great chip no doubt even after I upgrade ill be keeping it for a long time on my test bench

@@YourPersonalGeek 5600X 3-4X more expensive than the Ryzen 5 1600. LOL It’s not worth the surcharge to me, 6 core of 12 Threads will last for a few more years.

I do a of lot of video rendering and want to do 4k gaming with a 3080 so worth it to upgrade to newest architecture but absolutely no problem in using zen+ for awhile

Got my 1600AF sitting at 4ghz at 1.325V for more than 8 months now, I will upgrade to Ryzen 5000 sometime but for ~100€ it's the best CPU ever made, I will surely keep it for a Home Server or Test Bench for sure!

Nice George 4Ghz is sick! I completely agree this chip is an absolute powerhouse for the price and once I upgrade to Zen 3 I will be using the 1600AF on the test bench too

I have 4x8gb sticks of Ballistix RAM tough, the speeds are not great with 4 sticks ( only 3200mhz)due to the daisy chain design of the Motherboard, but if you have installed only two of them I would try to Overclock them to a bigger freq or a smaller CL, or both, if the memory is good to go. For ex. I got my Ballistix sport from 3200mhz CL16 to 3600mhz CL16 in a completely stable way ( 48 hours memtest and gaming), latency has improved a lot and most important bandwidth has increased a lot (~ +12GB) . Ryzen performance gets a huge boost with speedy memory! There are plenty of guides on Reddit! Good luck!

mine is the original 1600 have it since launch and overclocked... has been at 3.7 oc with stock cooler, had no problems. my rams are oc too, from 2400 to 2800mhz, 2 sticks of 8gb crucial.

Got my 1600AF running at 4.1ghz / 1.384V on an ASUS TUF GAMING B450M PLUS-II :D Cinebench R23 on stock was 6461 and OC to 4.1 got to 7805, I kinda feel I still could get a bit extra performance but the extra voltage doesn't seem worth the hassle

@@gonzaloiribarren4592 On my case I had a cheap Thermalright cooler, I wouldn’t recommend considering any kind of overclock with the basic stealth cooler

You can pretty much choose whatever you want it doesn't need anything super serious, I prefer like a be quiet! pure rock or something like a cooler master hyper 212 black RGB edition. Not to expensive but still looks good and does a good job of cooling

I don't think that it makes any sense to OC this chip if it's paired with a gpu which is being maxed out by this cpu, in this case the 1060. Hence why the performance increase is miniscule. OC-ing a cpu would only prove beneficial if it would be paired with a stronger gpu (for instance rtx 2060, 2070, 3050 Ti) and the cpu is struggling utilizing the card on 1080p lower settings.

Also have 1600AF but on cheap mobo GA-AB350M-DS3H V2 i can't push them more 4.1GHz wothout blow up VRM section. Stable and best what can use for daily and general use is 4GHz on rlly low voltage 1.175v Cinebench score 7704

if temperatures are low enough you should not see any degrading of the CPU or shortening its lifespan
