This video will transform the way you see and feel about social anxiety while also give techniques for moving through it. Overcoming Social Anxiety is about going with and changing the way you relate to other people and the way you see yourself. This video gives those tools and techniuqes.
"Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron, and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this video I'll be sharing with you how to overcome social anxiety and three techniques to help you do that.
"
"Now with this process, and something I think you can just find so powerful, is knowing that many times when we feel anxiety, anxiety could easily be the emotion of excitement if we took the judgment and the label off of it. It's the idea that any time we experience something new, i.e. we're in a social environment and we're around new people, and we then have the feeling of anxiety, it could simply be the feeling of excitement. It's just going through a belief system, it's going through a filter in our mind, that converts it into a negative thing. It's almost like that negative definition itself is what causes the anxiety to begin with. I haven't even got into the three techniques I'm going to share, but that alone can allow you to really transmute it from being that feeling of anxiety to sitting there and saying, "Wait a minute, could this be excitement for something new, and is there some type of negative definition I'm imposing on this feeling, and therefore getting that result?"
"
"Now I've been someone that's felt social anxiety many times before, and especially because of the way that I grew up. Let me give you a little backstory real quick. Between the ages of me being about 9 to 15, my dad was married to someone that was my ex-step-mom. She was very intense when it comes to discipline. We were allowed to watch TV before. We were allowed to have friends before. All of a sudden, when they got married, we weren't allowed to watch television, we weren't allowed to have friends, and all we were really allowed to do was yard work, house work, or go to school. It was like a very military-type style.
"
"Between that time, of course we went to school, of course we still had interaction there, but we weren't able to really have that casual interaction of being socially at a party or something like that. Then 15 came around and a little bit before that my dad divorced her. When that happened, all of a sudden me and my brother are very excited because we're allowed to have friends, we're allowed to watch TV, which was something we weren't allowed to do for that whole period in our life, and I had to learn how to relate to people. I had to learn how to not be so anxious around other people.
"
"I remember, looking back at this, maybe I didn't know all this information now, but when I look back at this, one thing that really helped me go through, which is the first one I'm going to share with you, is to change the story that you tell yourself and to change the attachment that you have. If you go out into public and you always believe that you feel anxiety when you're around other people, it's almost like you've been conditioning yourself to feel that emotion where you could simply decide you are going to change that story. As you change the story and you simply realize, hey, I'm just going to decide right now that that doesn't have to have power over me in the present moment, that's when things began to shift.
"
"For a period of time I was always thinking to myself, "I lost this period of my childhood and I wasn't around people." I realized that that didn't help me, and that, in a way, influenced or emphasized that kind of experience. I remember, even if I went to a party with friends that were already my friends after I started making friends, I would still feel that anxiety. It always came from making it all about me. When I would go somewhere I'd put all the focus on what will other people think about me. But the moment I decided to put that energy out to simply have fun, have more of a sharing-type vibe, which is just loosening up about it, that's when things really began to change. But I had to let go of that story and I had to be more present to the moment.
"
"Now the second technique I have for you involves understanding how to simply loosen up and have fun. Now the reason I say this is because, a lot of times when we're in and feeling social anxiety, it's coming simply from such a seriousness, like life is so serious. It doesn't have to be. Life can be more fun. Life can be something that we learn how to really ping off other people and collaborate with other people. To do that, one technique you can use is to simply decide to start laughing more often. See things as funny, because then, when you go into that social environment, you can see that the anxiety itself is kind of funny. Maybe you realize that you can just talk to other people...

I have experienced to same thing during high school but i can not say that it have started during HS. Before that i wasn't really care about social relations, especially with girls. You should get help from a psychiatrist before SP ruined your life. Eventhough they are exact solution, drugs may help to reduce anxiety.

C'mon guys im sick of social anxiety ruining my life lets just for today lighten up and laugh at ourselves every time that voice in our head tells us we're embarrassing ourselves or we look weird, lets look/sound even weirder because what difference does it make?
@vivek5229

This technique actually helped me a lot. On my recent trip to Edinburgh, i was involved in one of events which required forming teams with other people and then working on an idea. So i got teamed up with a few people from the UK. It was hard enough for me to be able to think freely in a social setup, and now i had to look past this difference in cultural behaviors as well. It didn't help that one of them was an absolute asshole and one very ignorant. So as the day passed my anxiety got worse, as i didn't get any feedback from them whenever i did speak to them. I felt like a weirdo. so as the day ended, down in confidence and and feeling embarrassed i went to a mall nearby and accepting the fact that i was weird, i thought to myself "might as well be even weirder" and i started interacting with random people in prank-ish farcical manner and started enjoying it myself, and funny enough the reactions that i got from people were more like "dude its weird, but funny" rather than "uh! dude its weird". And that changed my mindset from thinking that i was weird to thinking "well that was weird, but kinda funny too" which helped me move on from the awkward situations that i faced later quickly , and all of sudden, next day i could interact with the people in my team more freely amid all the ignorance and and negativity.

Mike Barooshian having a partner can indeed give you happiness but you do not need to have one to be happy. Happiness comes from within yourself, loving yourself and the people you already have in your life. Its a social expectation to have a relationship but if you want a girlfriend because of that, that is not a good reason. Have faith in the fact you will meet the person you dreams of by focusing on making yourself a better person. I believe you can do it. Also please talk to someone and seek help if youre feeling suicidal. I am trying therapy for my social anxiety maybe you can try that out.

I have been struggling with this problem for a long time ... surprisingly, my most important finding was that social interaction doesn't have to be smooth and perfect. It's messy to its core. It's okay to feel weird, it's okay to run out of things to say, it's okay to make a fool out of yourself. That's normal human behaviour. Nobody judges you as hard as you do. Be kind to yourself, relax.

my SA is kind of a little different case. It's not about me and how people perceive me, is more how do I fit in all of this. because of my awkwardness and the lack of things to talk about, people would get 'bored' of me then move on. so whenever I'm with someone, my mind would imagine how the other person will get bored of me, then I would just avoid talking to them altogether. it's like having no dynamics with every person I talk to, unless they are younger. It's still there from time to time when I don't want it to be, but I was able to make more friends and even a friend to relate to that struggles with social anxiety as well. I just want to say, it's good to get out of your comfort zone! But don't do something drastically scary for you, start with little things like small talk with a stranger and then progress.

I started getting it at age 22 to 23 getting a breakdown from working too much in a new job. Head was spinning and I was on fire for a few weeks, then the depression and panic attacks started sneaking in. Was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (had symptoms of it long before that). Been using alcohol to numb anexiety and depression, but got into treatment. I tend to enjoy drinking alone when all hope is out, but whenever I'm going to a family event or going skateboarding with some friends, I stay sober and enjoy being there. Just loosen up, be yourself, don't think what others think of you and have fun doing it. It will get you far, believe me.

I agree with this so much. People throw around social anxiety and confuse it with shyness when it’s literally debilitating, not just being a little nervous and shy in certain situations.

I give you the solutions. Don’t masturbate any more, do have sex if you can find someone to love better, they say love cures that problem. Try go to clinic where they specialized in testosterone inyections, get a connective therapeutic, smile more often to people, do not short your words while you talk. For example if you going to say don’t say I do not. If you going to say I’m going. Say I am going. Don’t say hi say hello. Socialized at least 3 times a week at least with people who are happy and are trying to do better things, life your life do things for fun that you like to do. Go to the gym. The list can go on and on. But those are some examples.

It is AMAZING to me how I am NOT SHY WHATSOEVER now, because I was COMPLETELY SOCIALLY PARANOID as a child and teenager. I want to PINPOINT the SOLUTION, but it didn't happen overnight. My mom made a dent when she said to me "I don't know why you think everyone's looking at you- laughing at you..." she said "..because everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to be worried about you." That may sound simple, but I seriously thought everyone was looking/laughing at me... and when my mom said that- I started realizing they weren't.. that everyone was thinking about themselves. WOW! That was like HUGE to realize. But I was far from being OUTGOING. So how did I become outgoing? I was LUCKY. Seriously, LUCKY. You see, I just so happened to have a next door neighbor and friend named Brian who was a social butterfly. He was 6 months older than me and after we became BEST friends, he proposed teaching me how to be less shy and more outgoing. He was 15-years-old at the time. I laughed and said sure, let's try. So he started teaching me what he knew. I don't recall all he taught me.. but one thing he said still sticks with me today. He said, "A dog's BARK is worse than his bite." Another words, he said, "If you show confidence, talk confidently, act cool, everyone will see you as that. They can't see how you really feel- shy and awkward." With Brian by my side, we started socializing with different people (together) and I started coming out of my shell. He was there to catch me when I fell- and I truly was blessed to have him there. Within a year, I became one of the most popular kids in school. He was right. "A dogs bark IS bigger than it's bite" because I was still scared to death even though I was hiding it. There might of been a more professional way to solve my social paranoia, but that worked for me.. partially. It made me look good. Inside, I was still a bundle of nerves. Eventually, I came to realize a big game changer- that no matter who you are- people are not going to like you. Some will like you and some won't. That's life and the more popular you become the more those numbers will grow- likes and dislikes. Realizing this, I said to myself, Self, why are you focused on those who don't like you? Why not focus instead on those that do? Sounded good to me. I immediately stopped giving a sh!t about anyone who didn't embrace me. Another game changer happened in my late 20s. I stopped talking negatively to myself. Instead of saying, "Idiot," I said, "Darling." Instead of saying "You're ugly," I said "You're gorgeous." Honestly, that made me laugh at first, but I stuck to it, looking in the mirror at first while doing it, and eventually everything switched. Even today, I still talk to myself like I am my own lover. Seriously. To hear my mind speaking, you would say, "Damn. He's really in love with himself!" I think probably the cherry on top was when I became a tour guide on the San Diego Bay. Seriously! It was the last hurdle. For a whole summer, I guided large groups of people hour after hour around the San Diego Bay talking to them about everything they were seeing. I might of been still a little timid when I started doing that job, but by the end of the summer, I could get up in front of any group and talk. The experience was life changing. The nicest compliment I got while being a tour guide, I got more than once. People were telling me that they loved listening to my voice. They said that they could listen to it forever. I was so amazed. So amazed that this voice once was quiet. Didn't want to speak. And now, can't shut up.

How will this help me when I get an anxiety attack about going outside, about going to work? And I stay home for a week, being scared to talk to people, to interact, to have to call someone. Your tips might help when the social anxiety haven't been developed too deeply yet. Or maybe our "backstories" are just so drastically different that your anxiety was able to be "easily" changed. Yes, everyone experiences anxiety differently, but I firmly believe that your anxiety is not as bad, and might even be on a level of just being socially awkward. Meanwhile, I sit her with social anxiety and depressions, at times not being able to leave the house. Being anxious to talk to new people at work, being anxious about saying something completely embarrassing, repeating the way you said something to someone, to see if you seemed off, if you seemed weird. And if you notice you actually just freaking embarrased yourself, or maybe you didn't but it definitely feels like you did, you run rhe scenario over ans over again in your head until you eitherway go crazy or something else comes up to distract you from that situation. Social anxiety is also being out with your boyfriend in a mall, wanting to get bubble tea, but he tells you, you want something, you order it, and he told you that after you already entered the store, you panic, you tell him to order please, he refuses, you back off but he pushes you back into the store. Your mind goes absolutely wild, and every cell in your body screams to flee, so you turn around and run away. Making a huge scene at the same time, just worsening the experience even more, since you can feel the hundreds of eyes following your every step, judging you, and all you want to do is throw up.

I began having social anxiety after high school. Around age 19... Im 22 now & I feel like a completely different person with different interests. Its crazy how life can change in an instant. I honestly think my brains adapting through so much change I have been through. There are times where I realize how different I am & when I talk to people thinking of who I used to be, it makes me nervous. So I remind myself that I am a new person & confident. Usually when I drop my self judgement its when Im good✨

I used to live in a province, full of Friends, I go out alot, when theres no school me and my friends hangout. When we moved to the city and I got to a new school fresh off a good summer, I made many new friends in school, I was very Energetic and fun, but I didnt had friends in my neighborhood, so when theres no school, I would just stay in my room playing video games for 12 hours, so when school ended and it was summer, it was all I did. eat, play video games , sleep. so as soon as school started again Ithats when Social anxiety hit me, I forgot how to socialize, Ive gotten very shy, just last year I was able to fool around in a stage play while the whole school was watching, and now I cant even recite in class fearing to be judged, I wasnt me, until now I havent recovered from it yet but do not make the same mistake as I did, when you have spare time, socialize, meet new friends, dont isolate yourself, before its too late

I suffer from Social Anxiety and school makes it more worse. I've had some multiple times breakdowns or something because it was too much pressure for me. Its hard to stop being anxious but i rly want to be more confident but my negative comments in my head always control me whatever I do. I never get used to social situations. (Expect social media.) I want to go to therapy but my parents won't let me. Why? I told them I have social anxiety and they are just like "Mmhhmm.." And then they just ignore me. Wheres all the support? I want help but I can't get. 😭😭 So much struggles. Edit: I looked on Google the SAD symptoms and i have all of them I've experienced them too much. SOCIAL ANXIETY IS A TORTURE!

Your parents don‘t take it seriously... maybe they think it‘s just shyness which is normal... Try to get help by yourself. Reaching out to therapists is the hardest because you avoid it because of your fear, but just force yourself to take this step. Google a telephone number and you‘ll get help! Afterwards it will get better I promise!

Difference between you and me is that, you could not socialize but you wanted to. Me, i could socialize but i didn't want to, i always had the social fears inside me. So when i actualy did it, it always was awkward. Now as adult its very hard for me to find a job or relationship and other social stuff, and i can't see it change. Also i dissagree with "more you do it the better it gets".

I got kicked in the balls at school and for years I considered the resulting sensation to be "agony". But then I redefined it as "extasy", retrospectively imagined the incident as a Beryl Cook caricature art instillation, and "put myself out there" by rolling out the welcome mat to a encore experience-to wit, an appropriately and conspicuously positioned, "Please kick" sign. Update:-I no longer worry about the recurrence of said "negative" (an erroneous and self fulfilling perception at best) event. I'm cured of my skewed outlook on "Ballkick-gate"! And as an additional reminder and daily affirmation of my personal attitude conversion.......I keep my erstwhile sphericals in a glass display cabinet on the mantlepiece. A glowing testimonial (pun-nearly intended) to the arrival of the new carefree (and ball free) me. The future is bright. The future is EUNOCH!!!

I always focus too much on what I think people around me think of me, and it's always negative. I've been considering asking my older sister if she wanted to go to a gym but I think I'll be focused on what others there will think of me because even though I'm not really heavy, I'm still very self conscious. But this really does help me, maybe it is excitement I'm labeling as anxiety because it's what I think it is when I feel it. I'll definitely try this when I go out next time and try not to impress everybody - who says everyone is focusing on me, they have their own things to worry about.

I’m all about this. However, for those with more complex issues. We can’t always just “let lose & have fun.” For me, meditation, yoga, journaling & EFT have been the most helpful. And, actually being a part of social gatherings that I genuinely want to go to. Not out of any sort of obligation or guilt. Super into LOA & Abraham Hicks as well, so I do “segment intending” for the day or whatever the next situation will be. I envision things going better than expected. “I’m Allowing this to be safe, confident, secure, uplifting, fun, Easy, joyful, funny, balanced, harmonious, peaceful, exciting, grounded, connected, pleasurable, etc.”

I want to point out - giving up caffeine has helped me think more clearly and feel less anxious!! I looooove coffee... but I am treating myself to it once a week max now. I went off of it about 4 weeks ago, and have had only one coffee drink since then! It was really tough and I had a headache for about 5 days, but I've found that the benefits of giving it up far outweigh the positives of drinking coffee every day. I (strangely) feel more energized and sleep better, too! I don't crave it so much, either. Just wanted to add it to everyone's list of things to try while fighting anxiety *wink* Excessive sugar consumption too!

Nate Torres I think switching to tea will help you wean yourself off of it - you could try to cut down on it little by little until you’re off of it. Even decaf coffee has some caffeine in it, so maybe drink decaf for some of the time. I still “treat” myself to coffee on Saturdays sometimes, but I’ll have very little of it or decaf - because it makes me feel too wired & it feels gross. Tbh I don’t really like it like I used to, and I used to drink it black. Good luck!! It’s more a mental challenge than anything.

Best cure for anxiety is to take your focus off yourself and focus as much as possible on the outside world for a moment. Practice this daily...focus as deep as possible in meditation on the outside for moments, then back to the deep positive truth on the inside. The resonance of what your purity is, not the impure zig-zag distortion in-between self and external. Proper tuning of your grounding, not what people are thinking of us.

Usually the core of social anxiety is not having much self asteem, there are work books online that might help you a lot, and there are many things you can do for yourself to help with this. When you have a lot of self asteem, you love yourself and trust yourself. This stops you from questioning everything you are doing, you believe in yourself. I saw a therapist recently and she is helping me so much, she’s given me the goal of getting rid of my social anxiety before I have to go to highschool.

Whether you know it or not, social anxiety comes from trauma. Not necessarily physical, but emotional trauma. One part of overcoming it is releasing the trauma by recognizing it. Trauma manifests in the form of self defeating thoughts. No one starts out hating themselves. It happens from trauma. Another part of it is putting yourself in more and more social situations. This leads to greater confidence because you start to realize you can handle a social situation and you won’t die. You can get back that thing you had as a kid. Where does the motivation come from? For me it came from not accepting another fucking day where things are the same. I couldn’t live with it any more. I had to change. You can change.

My mother was very overbearing and controlling and abusive. Best thing I ever did was get away from her I moved to a different state and slowly you have to start to rebuild yourself. I'm not telling you to move from her as you are probably still young I moved out of state at 21. I realized that absorbing her negative energy was making me more and more shut down anxious depressed suicidal panic attacks. I'm not where I'd like to be 8 years later but it is what it is. Don't be angry with your mother as that only gives her more power over you. Harry you are doing good by researching and recognizing that you need help. Also be careful with phsyciatrist and the loads of medication they prescribe. But by no means disregard them, everyone's situations are different and I'm no dr. I was on many over the years I did not feel better if anything I was more suicidal. I've been med free for almost a year, not saying it's easy bc it's not. Find hobbies you enjoy, get out of your house, try hiking jogging etc. let people think what they want! Their feeling about you are not your problem.( i love to go hiking and I collect Rocks! Lol people laugh at me but it's ok bc I have a story and a memory for every single one of them:). ) it's ok to not have 100 friends just as long as the friends you have trust you and you trust them. Im so sad at your comment bc that's the way I felt the last two years of high school.. talk to your teachers privately and they may help you. This was a really great video, thanks a lot Arron! One thing that came into my head was about the second step. Those specific sometimes socially traumatic events happening in real time are one thing, but there have been very important developmental moments in my life where I felt no anxiety and was completely free and innocently in the moment, only to be teased, bullied and even tormented for years later because of it. There is a lot of nuance in where these anxieties come from and sometimes being yourself is the most difficult thing. Thanks for making videos like these that help people feel connected in our own special weirdness.

What you said about focusing on yourself instead of focusing on those around you is a HUGE part of the problem sometimes your anxiety may just be because your too selfish. Not in a shitty vain way but the reason you may be put off by other people is because your too busy inspecting your flaws instead of being engaged and just joining in on genuine conversation. I do it alot so when my anxiety rises I try to remind myself to take that energy and change into something positive by asking other people about themselves instead of just avoiding eye contract at all costs.

I can’t believe I let my anxiety control me. So much that I started telling myself that I just don’t like people or I am just an anxious person. That’s just so wrong. I would much rather have someone to talk to and enjoy my day with than have no one. I’m now realizing that I let my anxiety suppress my personality because I was so worried about how people perceived me or worried about doing something embarrassing. I love the tip to start laughing more and enjoying the moment. I overthink too much and once I start overthinking a social interaction, I get too in my head and I’m not even connecting with the person because I’m trying to say things that are just agreeable or that I think they’ll want to hear. I want to take control back over my life and stop being afraid or stressed about what people might say.

oh a chronic blusher! That's my issue. I'm now 37. I look back at all the times I let a blushing face ruin so many special times. Now I have a great way to deal with it and I wish I figured it out a long time ago. If my face went red because of a girl and people mentioned it, id say "I blame Amy, if she wasn't so damn cute" You got to own the red face. "Cheeks don't lie" "my cheeks always give away when I'm crazy about someone, or my cheeks always give away when I'm trying to hide something" I'd make the best bf cause you can tell if I'm ever being dishonest. ;) Honestly just owning your blushing is going to get you through it. You can do it now, or in 10 years you are just naturally going to start dealing with this issue as a "grown up" GOod luck sir!!

*"This feeling im experiencing is not fear but excitement for new possibilities. I can do this" she said to herself before she said "here" when the teacher took her attendance.* I think this video was aimed more at people with light social anxiety and not the kind where you start experiencing physical symptoms like nausea, fast heart beat etc when doing the simplest of things like answering a phone -__- I've had social anxiety since Kindergarten ....some struggles are harder than some lol ..i agree with ur last point tho.. it doesn't help much but its the only thing we can do if we're gonna survive

Usually I try avoid to avoid conversation with friends I know but rarely meet , even if I push myself to talk with them maybe 2 or 3 words might come out, I even couldn't tell how was my day, but the problem is I have a good vibes (as well as bad ones) in my head to share and it wouldn't go out. I usually end up with a hanging conversation. Sorry for the bad english. lol

I was adopted by my aunt. Her daughter who is 6 years older was jealous of me. She yelled, scrutinizing me for no reason since I was a kid. From outgoing I turned into socially anxious and she was happy to see that. My late uncle was overprotectived, wanted me to stay at home while his wife and kids bullying me. Now they all lead an unhappy life even with all the money that they have. Now I wanted to be a script writer but was really afraid my anxiety would hinder me from having a network with the people in the industry.

Why God! U gave me shyness in my childhood due to this I am stubborn and became slow and always trying to change myself because of no reason in the confusion of being myself sometime and thinking about being social and creating imaginary world inside me and lossing sense at the required age which is like a hell and doing battle with myself everyday and always afraid of miscommunication with others its like living with out living

I used to be social in elementary, but then kids started labeling me as “the quiet kid”... that made me actually turn quiet.. but that’s gonna change. I’m gonna make an effort to actually talk when I have something to say. Even if I am weird or awkward, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s not like I’m gonna die. You know what they say, “you only live once”. If I’m only gonna live once then I better make my life the best out there. Even if it means going out of my comfort zone for the better.
