This video came at the perfect time. I’m about halfway through my marathon training. I’m starting to have random episodes of questioning and self doubt.

So normal. You got this! Trust all the training you've done - it will all pay off on the big day if you just go out there and do your best!

Very well explained! Many good points covered here! My biggest weakness has always been the HEAT! It's the one thing I fear the most on race day (NON marathon)!!! The trickiest part of this annual event is that it always takes place just AFTER winter. So the time leading up to race day is almost always cold!! So you would be very hard pressed to get any PROPER heat training sessions. But come early spring time which is when the event takes place, it warms up very quickly! This too me has always been the trickiest part of race day! So in my training sessions, I try to run on as many sunny days as possible. But in winter, that can be far from being often the case! As you have mentioned, we have absolutely no control over nature but finding those sunny days to train on is the closest I can get to heat training, rol. And of course, hydrating adequately as well as being very well rested!!!!!! PS, the thumbnail was also good.

I guess you'll have to put a few space heaters next to you while you run on your treadmill. Haha kidding! I do not do well on hot runs either...honestly they are tough for everyone. But if you can get some hot races under your belt, it really gives way to some amazing performances when it's cool again!

Great video Jane! I hit 18 miles today, longest I’ve ever run, and it wasnt as bad as I expected. Giving me confidence for the big race!

The coolest thing as a coach is to keep hearing athletes get to say week after week, "this is the longest I've ever run!" It's pretty awesome what the body can do when you just give it time.

I did something dumb and got injured. I ran outside after it rained with shoes that had no traction and I fell and now have an ankle sprain. Still tuning into all the running content, but it is very frustrating being sidelined for now!

Hi Terressa, I'm SO sorry this happened to you. That is not dumb at all...just an unfortunate accident. I also went running in the rain yesterday and hit a slippery spot suddenly. Sometimes you just don't realize until it's too late. Sending all the healing vibes and know your time will come soon enough.

@@runningwithjane Thanks Jane, for the encouragement! I think it's just so frustrating because I had an ankle sprain back in January and did PT and everything for months. But it's been a few days and no pain, so I started my ankle exercises again, so far so good!

Another awesome video. Two things. I get excited for long runs because I try to treat them like adventures. Make them fun and exciting. If you've done your training before hand you will get through them and even with a smile. Two - Slow down, slow down, slow the hell down. I am guilty of not doing this but here is what I have learned. You can do you easy runs really slow and then have energy to hit those hard runs hard and you get faster over time. I am proving this right now as I prepare for my next marathon. It is mentally challenging to run slow but I promise it works.

I see a thumbnail title for my next video: Slow the Hell Down. And yep, you got it - if you go easy enough on the easy days, the hard days make you feel on top of the world!

@@runningwithjane It is a hard concept to grasp. But once you learn the going slow 80% of the time leaves some legs to go hard 20%. And to be honest, when i started to push 50 miles a week my legs didnt have much left to go hard so "slowing the hell down" really helped.

Hi Jane. Another informative video (which, like so many before, I've found to be so helpful). I wanted to share that, after missing a BQ by 34 seconds at CIM last December, I finally got my BQ this weekend. Fingers crossed that my 4 minute cushion will be good enough.

Thanks for the great video Jane, very insightful. For me weekly long runs are big (mostly mental) hurtles. Tomorrow I have a 15 miler scheduled. Seems like way to far to run in one go. But I’ll get through the 15 miles using the “chunk” strategy. I don’t think of 15 miles, I think of two 7 milers with a 1 mile cool down at the end. Stop briefly for fuel and hydration and walk for a short distance after the first 7 miles. Seems to work for me so far.

I know it was tough, but, YOU DID IT!! Just keep chugging along and the body will continue to acclimate. Walk breaks can be a great way to break up the miles and force you to not overdo it. I'm really proud of you, Dick!

Four months of dedicated training, and two years of running (5ks, half marathons) to prepare and this thing might all go wrong. There's no guarantee! I'm coming to terms with this as I'm right now in the toughest two weeks of my first marathon training plan.

Hi Jane, thank you so much for your videos they have helped me tremendously and I am eternally grateful. I live in the Caribbean that is hot all the time. I am a 50 year old female attempting my first marathon in January but I got injured last week with hamstring tendonopathy. I have been running a few years but just for fun, my longest run so far is 10miles and it was hard. I downloaded your marathon guide. I feel really depressed as a result of my set back. Do you have any advice? Thank you again.

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. It's so tough as a runner to go through those setbacks and feeling super down is really normal since something we love to do has been taken away suddenly. I would recommend doing all the right things for recovering and then ease back in. Make sure you're running your miles truly easy and building up mileage safely (around 10% or not more than 3-4ish miles more per week). Wishing you a quick recovery so you can get back to running soon.

Helloo! LOVE your videos! Found you a couple of months ago and watch or rewatch an episode while enroute to do my run! I have MCM in about 3 weeks. The race has 3 cut off points. When I do my easy runs my cnf pace is at 15 min miles In order to meet the time cuts offs, you MUST avg 14 min miles. Stressing out cause I trying to do a 13:45 ish pace to meet those cut offs so I'll be starting out faster so I'm thinking I need to start out faster in the beginning which goes against what you and peeps say about not starting out too fast. I'm 62 and this is my first marathon. I've been training for several months and don't want to fail. Any suggestions??
