Overgrown Necrons - The Monolith. ULTIMATE guide V3.0!

The concept for Overgrown Necrons is that the Necrons have fallen into a slumber and as a result have been grown-over by nature which has reclaimed the land. Aeons later the Necrons have awoken and reanimated.
This is my step-by-step guide on how to paint a Necron Monolith in the Overgrown theme. I used Orange glow/glowing effects to contrast with the green vegetation. I used an airbrush for speed but this technique could easily be used without an airbrush too using dry brushing!
Paints I used -
Vallejo Model White
Vallejo Model Fluorescent Orange
Vallejo Yellow Game Ink
Citadel Contrast Black Templar

I used lots of different basing products including;

Flock
Grass Tufts
Many of these can be bought from;

Gamers Grass - www.gamersgrass.com/
You can get lots of basing materials free in Nature so if you are on a budget don't be scared to go out scavenging in the Woods or on the Beach. If you do this just wait until the scavenged parts are dry.
After applying all the vegetation you could give it a fine spray with hairspray or matte varnish to keep everything in place.

This channel is about painting converting and kitbashing miniatures for your warhammer & d&d games, Age of sigmar and warhammer 40k games. I've done guides on how to paint warhammer, how to paint d&D I may do a conversion guide for Darktide or Dark tide however it is spelled. And in the future I will build and paint some terrain for my miniature war gaming wargaming

Crazy, settled on an overgrown theme for my necrons months ago. But then the project fell into a slumber. Guess this is what it needed to rise. Cant wait for your other overgrown necron projects

@@SlayerMiniatures I like it. To be honest though, the foliage is a bit much. But you executed "a bit much" pretty well. So if the goal was exactly this, then you nailed it. For me, I would have been a bit more subtle with the amount of overgrowth. To each their own.

That would be cool! But would probably take like 100 years for to grow ha! I was tempted to paint the tree in this like a Japanese Cherry Blossom with pink foliage. Might be cool to try a Japanese garden themed one 🤔

Easier method: actually store it in a damp dark environment. Let it sit until you actually play with it. It will be overgrown with mold by then.

Haha thanks. Yeah I know it was a joke :) yeah I saw they aren't that good at the mo. I haven't managed to play in the last year so haven't been able to test anything. Aren't Tesseract Arks good?

@@SlayerMiniatures TArks are actually the best tank in the army right now. If you take the budget version at 170, they're more affordable than DDAs and still hit very hard. DDAs getting yet another points hike really pushed them out of viability. That being said, Necrons are competitively viable without any tanks at all.

@@SlayerMiniatures I collect Genestealer Cults because I like the juxtaposition between alien mutations and industrial equipment. This reminds me of that, it takes the idea farther.

@@SlayerMiniatures I've been thinking more about this, and it's actually the reverse of the Genestealer Cults. Where the Genestealer Cults use alien organics but familiar machinery, this is familiar organics but alien machinery. Not to mention where GSC is a hit and run army, Necrons are a board control army... I think it's fair to say that you're playing the diametric opposite of GSC.

@@SlayerMiniatures yeah man id love to see like a craft world thats been living in like an asteroid and all their mechs are like infused with crystals or something :P i recon you could pull it off with your skill like cragy rock n gems would look dope :P or even a worn down rusted bearly holding together kinda feel or parts broken off and replaced with plants and rock

Sub...scribe?! 😂 This was honestly incredible well done man, you're the master of less is more in my opinion, none of that edge highlight bs for every single thing, you use contrast paints for simple jobs and focus more on the bigger thing than individual parts

Its such a cool model! You can find them a lot cheaper in third party suppliers. If you do it like this I'd recommend decorating it before assembly!

I'm curious how you would transport something like this? I feel like the grass bits would come off too easily, but hopefully I'm wrong because this is such a cool look and I can't wait to try it out.

Hi Aadil! So I have magnetised the base and all my minis bases. I then transport them in 'really useful boxes' with magnetic sheet in the bottom. This means zero friction on them. Also.. once you've applied the overgrown material you can give it a spray with scenic glue if you want it to be super secure. I never bothered with mine - and they still look awesome. Hope that helps :)
