Overnight Camp at Yellow Post Site #7

Did an overnight camp at Yellow Post Site #7 in the San Bernardino mountains about Big Bear. Had a great night at this awesome location located at Big Pine Flat. It was right after a snowstorm up in the mountains around Big Bear so it was a bit snowy and cold. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it up there but it turned out to be an easy drive to one of the best wild camping spots around.

Do you need any kind of permit or pass to go in there and camp out over night.

No permits or pass required for the yellow post sites. They are first come first serve and you can stay up to 14 days so you take your chances getting them. There is a campground nearby that does require reservations.

But you do need a fire permit, if you want to have a camp fire.

Thanks for the question. I drove up from Fawnskin which is across the lake from Big Bear. Best to get either a paper map with details or else use a GPS app that has trails on it. If you go to the forestry website fo this area they have details about these yellow post sites and some maps with them marked on. I have a stock 4WD truck but you could get to this using most vehicles with good ground clearance.
