The Troxus Explorer sports an unusually large frame integrated 20ah 48v battery for a price much lower than we typically see on a similarly spec'ed electric bike. The massive 203mm brake rotors controlled by hydraulic levers give this ebike exceptional stopping power relative to other bikes being sold at even higher prices.
This video review explores the Troxus Explorer Fat Tire electric bike in detail showing all of its pros and cons so you can make an informed buying decision.

It's weird to see you actually biking through Grand Theft Auto sets, and actually recognize the locations lol. Thanks for this review. I've been considering getting an eBike. If this is a review sample sent to you it may have been upgraded to something someone wouldn't normally get for the price for added impression. This is why a lot of product reviewers resorted to ordering and paying for what they want to review in a way it couldn't be known it's being sent to them.

If this bike was sent to him that is a major conflict of interest! He's obviously, in my opinion, probably already received or will get a financial benefit if buyers use his link. Maybe that explains his incessant oohing and ahhing about the rotor.

I'm sorry for everyone who missed the 40% sale price, but you can still get 20% off if you click this link then enter the code at checkout: bit.ly/Troxus-Coupon - code MEMORIAL20 at checkout ONLY TIL JUNE 1 If you want a less expensive ebike I recommend you check out my personal favorite fat tire ebike for the price; this one actually climbs hills better, weighs less, and costs less. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z5dyhs2gr5a6iqM.html I took it all the way up 1600ft elevation gain to the Hollywood sign before I ran into an awful problem. Here's a direct link to the bike: velotricbike.info/3mOCqKO - Save $60 with code TailHappyNomad60 For the Troxus ebike, please note the hydraulic brakes are listed as 180mm rotors on the website, which I do regard as the gold standard for a 84lb bike. Do not expect to receive 203mm rotors. Troxus did not ship me a special bike, some bikes shipped with 203mm and some with 180mm rotors. You will experience no meaningful difference in everyday riding on this minimal rotor size difference, it's mostly beneficial for heat dissipation on long descents from a steep mountain or repeated heavy braking from high speeds. 180mm Tektro hydraulic disc brakes are perfect for this bike and still above average compared to what competitors are offering.

Before you buy make damn sure you can ride them in your city or town. My town just banned them ! I’ve had e-bikes since 2021. First was a Aventon Aventure and my second bike was is the Philodo H8 which I just purchased a few weeks ago. Now I can only ride it on our farm 140 miles away which is useless for me now. I ride these as my MAIN means of transportation to grocery stores and medical facilities but now I’m going to HAVe to get a license and a motorcycle or car. Just be SURE you are able to ride in your town. We had just had trails built for pedestrians and bicycles 3 year ago to that raised my taxes a lot but I’m unable to use those as well. No e-bike’s of any class allowed on those trails was just implemented last month!! Sickens me.

Just rec'd mine today and gotta say, it's a helluva good bike for the price ($1241 shipped). I had an Aventon Aventure previously but wound up sending it back. Forks made noise, chain slap anytime going over a bump, motor noise, etc. Maybe I just got a lemon....but that being said, comparatively, this bike exceeds Aventon's quality IMO. Front forks although stiff, do a good job absorbing bumps, motor engages immediately (unlike Aventon) and while I've only don't 19 miles, I'm only down one bar so I expect I should get over 32miles easily. I don't think it competes well at it's MSRP of $2299 but for less than $1250, it's a fantastic deal. Thanks for turning me onto this and seeing what other similar comments were about this. And apparently they have some fairly large financial backing with a partnership with Lucidity (press release indicates is well into the 7 figure range). We'll see how long they last but impressed with the initial quality!

I skeptical about these bikes now. I have two Cyrushers XF-800 and XF-900. These are Cyrusher's top of the line $2900. In both bikes I had rear frame snap clean three times--each time a $150 replacement part with $100 labor to replace. Both front forks seized completely after a year. The rear suspension in both bikes lost their bouncy action. pins snapped off. Hub motors in both bikes spun off the frame. I mean--nothing but problems with these $2900 bikes. So this bike you're featuring looks great and the price is very attractive, but how will it be after a year or two? PS: I'm riding in Manhattan with the occasional venturing out to the outer boroughs.

I own an Aventon Level step through model and have been interested in buying the Aventure 1 as a second bike but since seeing this video just now I would buy this bike instead. The one thing that made me not as interested in the Aventure is the lower Ah battery considering it's size and weight. This is the Aventure 1 but cheaper and with a better battery so the Aventure is out of the running. I'm already used to a cadence sensor setup so having one on this bike isn't the turn off for me as it seems to be for some others.

No pavement at the farm, and some very steep hills surround the valley…I built a tractor/bike with a hubmotor mounted midframe. drives a jackshaft with a 5/1 gear reduction to a large sprocket on the rear wheel, for a total of 12/1 reduction. 26”fat tires. Only goes 5 mph at 48 volts, but climbs any hill, and doubles to pull trees to the woodpile. Use it alot for pulling around a gang mower, to keep the grass mowed down. 🤣

I mean use your brain. I generally stop when there is lots of traffic. Last week I was riding up a hill approaching a 4 way so I back off speed to allow the pickup truck that is in the opposing lane to make his left at the stop. He kept waiting and waiting. I was still a good 10 seconds from the stop he could have cleared the intersection, so I went through not stopping because I didnt want to lose my momentum. I waive to him in gratitude thinking he was one of those polite drivers allowing me to go through. Happens all the time. As I go through he proceeds to make his left and then lays on the horn. I dont get road rage, and I drive a pickup too, but that man deserved to get his ass beaten!

Personally for that I'd go for an Aventon Adventure 2. It's the same price but has a torque sensor where this Troxus doesn't. Though I do really like it. Without a torque sensor it's basically an Aventon Adventure 1. Which still is great. It was the second ebike I bought and still have and still ride when I want a chill comfy ride(I put an extra suspension seat post and a nice comfy saddle and it's insanely comfy to ride. Which I bet this Troxus would be a nice ride as well.

It's funny that you mentioned the Aventon Aventure 2. I was interested in the Troxus, but I missed out on the sale. So after several days of watching KZfaq videos,I ended up ordering an Aventon Aventure 2 yesterday from a local dealer. He's going to set it up,and fine tune it for me when it comes in. I'm paying the same amount I would have paid ordering it online, plus I'm getting it set up by a professional. Question regarding the torque sensor you mentioned: Does this sense the torque that the rider applies to the pedals? If so, then how would the Troxus be able to apply power commensurate to the rider's desires WITHOUT a torque sensor? I rode a friend's e-bike some time ago and my biggest complaint was that the power it applied was not linear to the amount of effort I put into the pedals. Maybe I'd learn to adjust to it, but I would prefer an intuitive power assist instead of one that surges.

it all depends on how many magnets are in the cadence sensor. The cadence sensor on my Ebike has 8 magnets, making for a smooth power increase. But my Ebike uses a Direct drive, or magnetic hub motor, no gears or other moving parts. The battery is a pretty big difference. The nomad 1 has more torque and a better hill climber and the nomad accelerates quicker, also a slightly more relaxed riding position with the swept back handlebars. The troxus will have quite a bit more range, and with the extra battery you’ll find yourself cruising at higher speeds knowing you have more juice in the tank. Both the Nomad 1 and the Troxus are at the top of my list of favorite fat tire e-bikes. I guess they each have their pros and cons, but this discount on the troxus right now is pretty epic. I hope this helps you decide!

Look excellent value and a good quality. The only reservation I would have is the hub drive if you are……..shall I say built for comfort not for speed…..My first e-bike was a hub in ear wheel and as I am about 70 lbs heavier than my wife 😂 I had some problem with the rear spokes not coping with the extra weight, spokes deformed and started having to replace rear wheel spokes. Yes I’m trying to loose 30 lbs but I suggest if you are 15 or 16 stones in weight then you are ok with a hub motor. If like me you are a “chunky monkey” then go for an e-bike with A mid drive motor is that’s located in the middle of the e-bike frame near the bottom, where the cranks are. These motors will surprise you with a comfortable dose of performance and a short battery assist reaction time. Furthermore, the centralised motor placement in the crank ensures better weight distribution on the e-bike. Reliability and efficiency are built in and they are typically more powerful than the hub varieties, with a power rating between 50Nm and 80Nm of torque. Very often the disadvantage is a higher purchase price of the e-bike. But the higher price is repaid in a longer engine lifetime; plus the more expensive e-bikes usually have better equipment. Popular mid drive systems are Bosch, Brose, Shimano Steps, Yamaha and Bafang. I have not had a couple of years weekend use with no problems, and my wife uses my first e-bike now with no spoke problems. Lastly yeas I have lost 8 lbs,……….only another 30 to go😢

I've got a problem with my back wheel, it's like it has a divot or a flat spot. Almost imperceptible to see but it feels like I'm driving over a fairly meaty stick with every wheel rotation. Emailed Troxus around 1pm Pacific and they didn't get back to me today, curious how they're gonna address it. Its super noticeable when riding it, I thought something was gonna break until I got it home and examined the bike more closely. Not sure if the problem is the tire or the rim, or something else. Also both my front and back breaks squeak when they're not being applied, which every reviewer has said they were pleasantly surprised wasn't an issue with these bikes. I suspect the reviewers got cherry picked units. Still not complaining for the price during the march sale, but something to be aware of

The efficiency of mid drive combined with your bikes own gearing is just too good. On a 17.5ah battery throttle only, 750w motor, 20mph, and a 9sp 11-52 cassette I typically get 60+ miles throttle only, and 150+ pedal assist. 50+ if I use my trailer, and I'm a big person at 240lbs.

One thing I've had to do with EVERY e-bike I've ever owned or have rigged-up for family member, is to change out the "minimalist" thing they laughingly call a headlight. I buy a different one with serious illumination and is powered by the ebike's battery pack. With the factory provided 1/2 Watt headlights on many ebikes, you can't see more than about 10 feet of the street late at night. By changing it for a quality $20 LED light you see much farther and your night ride is much safer. Unfortunately, not all ebike headlight wiring can even handle the power of an 18-22 Watt LED light and so one must know what one is doing when modifying the lighting system as you may also have to modify the wiring and even the switch. If a display computer head is used to switch the headlight on/off, one also has to ensure that it can also handle the current as they rely on the provided headlight consuming so little power they use cheap components and can get away with it. Changing out the light changes things...sometimes a lot. It's why the manufacturer should design for and provide a quality light to begin with. An alternative to a bike-powered light, is to buy a totally separate handlebar mounted headlight that comes with its own wiring and separate battery. Unfortunately again, many of the ones marketed on the internet are also weak with overinflated claims of "10,000 lumens" and such, and the batteries provided are often garbage when it comes to quality and true Ah rating. I've also examined these secondary headlights for their water resistance, and even when they claim an IPx6 rating, there are HOLES in the headlight case that allow rain inside, so even the IP rating is fraudulent. I realize this bit on ebike headlights and lighting seems all negative, but it's simply to let you know there are some pitfalls ahead when you start out no matter which ebike you start with. It's a real shame when you buy a $1000 ebike only to find out the manufacturer chose to install the cheapest $1 wholesale cost (literally) headlight they could find to put on the ebike, when adding $8-$12 to the BMC would have made a major difference to customer night riding comfort and safety.
