Rinsing the mitt is great but can be quite slow. Personally I find 4 deep pile plush 70/30 microfibers to be a safe and quick way and is much more realistic then 10 mitts as each towel has 8 sides.

Not really stirring the pot tho is it? Larry Kosilla uses the single bucket method and is one of the most well known and respected car detailers in the world dealing with some of the most rare and expensive cars in the world. No chance in introducing scratches or dirt back to the car with a single bucket discarding uses wash mitts once used. I am surprised more people don't do this, to me it's a no brainer.

I'm always open for change, but I don't see the 2 bucket system being as antiquated as Jim puts it: -If you're a mobile detailer washing multiple cars a day, it doesn't seem realistic to keep 30+ wash mitts in your arsenal and constantly rotating them out -Use Dirt Locks instead of Grit Guards. Grit Guards do absolutely nothing in terms of trapping dirt at the bottom of the bucket. Source Garage made a good video comparing the two and it's pretty revealing how useless Grit Guards are -If you have a solid pressure washer rinse/pre-soak routine down, you're probably fine using one bucket, but two can't hurt

I saw this method used by Chicago Auto Pros once a few months ago. Immediately bought 12 wash mitts to use and haven't washed any other way since... I can't believe it hasn't been thought of before. I remember doing the 2 bucket method once and saw small contaminants FLOATING, meaning the grit guard would have been useless anyway and they I would have just picked them up when i "rinsed"; and I was disappointed I never thought of this method then lol. I dont think its over rated. It works. Still rinsing say, 80 percent of the dirt and gunk in the rinse bucket before going into the soap bucket. But then again I do a double foam when I wash. Foam it once to let it dwell and help get off dirt. Power wash that first one off as usual. Then I foam the vehicle again and use the 2 bucket method to hand wash.

Except buckets are free and wash mitts are expensive and generally poor quality where I live. There is nothing stopping you from refreshing the water...i use the 'dirty' water for my trees.

Car is coated with Fusso Coat. I just take it twice a week to the coin wash, spray Surfex HD at 5%, wait a couple of minutes, rinse and follow up with a very gentle rinseless wash using BSD (winter) or Done and dusted si edition in the summer. I rinse the MF towel, change it if the car is dirtier than usual (rarely). Takes 20 minutes. The crowd rubbing their cars, using 2 buckets are just creating more work and swirls!

I use two buckets, one for wheels and one wash bucket. I just have multiple mitts in my one bucket soaking. Once i use my mitt i move on to the next one. Its much cheaper than buying the 2 bucket dolly.

If your worried about a dirty rinse bucket or a dirty mitt you completely missed the importance of a pre wash stage which effectively gets 90 percent of the dirt off the vehicle prior to contact wash. Id be more worried about rubbing dirt around the car before you dunk that mitt instead recontamination from the rinse bucket.

The second bucket makes a handy place to throw the used mitts and towels to drag them in for laundering. 😉

I must be weird, I don't use a wash bucket at all. I only sometimes just use a rinse bucket. Rinse my Car, Then Foam, use a several clean wash mits (wetted with water) to contact wash. Rinse then dry. Meh. Works for me..

FACTS The one bucket cycling method is safer, faster, and saves water.

Agreed, but still have to clean or wash out all the mitts once done. May use same or = water amount💧 by the end of it. But this method is still safer nonetheless👍

Wash tool require cleaning following the end of any car wash. You're right though the load would be bigger.

If your cars paint is properly maintained. Most , if not all , the dirt comes off with just a powerwasher. I can literally hose most dirt off my car and it looks clean with just water

I wash this way when doing a rinseless using MF towels but have never even thought about it for a full wash. Thanks for making me feel like an idiot there Jimbo. 😂 A lot more laundry to deal with but worth it to protect if you have spent all that time polishing and coating your car.

Zero buckets! I use the foam cannon to suds the car even after the first soak with suds and rinse. Then I use the foam cannon to suds the part I’m about to contact wash. Then use the pressure washer to rinse the mitt. Zero scratches. The guy who did my ceramic coating a year ago told me what ever I was doing to keep doing it because it looks like I’ve never washed car they are so few scratches on it.

If grit guards work then one bucket is fine. If you need 2 buckets then why do we need grit guards?
