Really great tips! Sadly my 4 shaft loom only has 4 treadles. 😬
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, how interesting, Cindy!!! You can absolutely still do overshot with 4 treadles! I would recommend a direct tie-up, so shaft 1 is tied to treadle 1, 2 is with 2, and so on. Then, the trick is in reading the pattern. You'll probably be depressing multiple treadles at a time for each toss of the shuttle. But, it's still possible! Let me know if you give it a go, how it works for you!

Thanks for this great video Chris! I was also wondering what the limit is on the number of weft colors you can have or is it limited to two colors only?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative 2 жыл бұрын
Ooh, good question!! There is no limit!!! Go crazy! However, managing 2 shuttles can be tricky enough. So, I would recommend switching colors as often as you like, while sticking with only 2 shuttles. Now, with that said, you may very well be much more coordinated than I am! So if you feel inspired to juggle all the things at one time, go for it! More power to you, my friend!! Let me know how it goes!! Happy Weaving!!

In overshot can you use 6 weft yarn for the pattern and 3 for the tabby per shuttle to progress faster? And would it affect the structural integrity of the cloth? Thanks

I took a beginners weaving class on a 4 shaft table loom last fall and the 3rd project was over shot. As soon as I understood the tabby instruction, it was easy. I think it does help to use 2 different colors, a neutral for the warp and your color. Once you see the pattern popping out, it's fun.

2 questions if i may 1. So for my direct draw loom (4 shafts 4 treadles) i always have to push 2 treadles for tabby (1+3 - 2+4) right. I am a fresh newbie to weaving and have to write out my treadling patern and use it untill it is finaly stuck in brain😁. 2. Is overschot always 1 on 1 with tabby? So i mean it like this Weaf one pick tabby then weaf one pick patern then tabby then patern. Am i making any sense? In my brain it does😁
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea! Great questions! You absolutely have the right idea when working with a direct tie-up loom! However, with overshot you may have a different combination of shafts that will create a tabby pattern. It depends on the weaving draft. For instance, I once had a pattern where half the warp yarns were on shaft 1. So tabby looked like (1 - 2+3+4). Just keep an eye on that, per your pattern.
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Жыл бұрын
As for the second question, yes! Throw a tabby pick, then a pattern pick, and repeat. You've got it! The goal of the tabby is to provide structure while the pattern does all the glamorous stuff over top of it! I hope that helps!! Let me know if you have other questions!

I have my loom set up With 150 ends 5EPI I'm wondering if I can use that And do overshot with it It is with hands In solid gray. I understand Overshot I need 1 pic Of grey And I could use a double thread of blue for the pattern. Is this possible With the warp I have on
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the note! It all depends on your threading. Overshot patterns tend to have more involved threadings versus other patterns. So if your threading is okay, I say give it a try! Let me know how it goes!

Can my warp be 8/2 cotton if I’m using merino wool for the weft?
