My biggest project yet! This video shows users how to combine Silhouette Studio and Glowforge for this 48'' x 36'' sign. Silhouette Studio is used to nest the letters for efficient cutting and creating large stencils that are cut using Glowforge passthrough feature.

WOW! That is one heck of a project! Ingenious use of materials to help you out with your alignment! I didn't even know about the nesting feature...but I've scrambled things to save space, but when alignment is critical, I've not been able to and have wasted so much vinyl! This gives me a few ideas. I don't have a GlowForge, but the process of making an alignment guide is exciting!

Excellent work. My only recommendation would have been to key the stencil circle, that way you know the circle logo is oriented perfectly in relation to the sign. Also, I wonder if a rubber or silicon roller would help push those letters into place so they don't lift off when you remove the stencil.

beautiful job and great description. Did the letters have glue on the back before you stuck them down? Is that what the 3m does?
@LisaPottsDesigns

Yes, exactly. The type of 3M here is a sign adhesive. It makes application MUCH easier!
@jenguinn4547
@jenguinn4547 3 жыл бұрын
Looks amazing. I do have a question, You took the masking off after you put the letters on, so the 3m is attached to the masking tape and not the acrylic ? Can you explain why it's done that way?
@LisaPottsDesigns
@LisaPottsDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, yes that can be confusing. The 3M REPLACED the masking on one side. The acrylic was masked on both sides, so I took it off one side and used the 3M as the adhesive, but also makeshift masking for the cut.

Bill R. Nice video. I'm new at this and I have ordered a Pro. not here yet. But mI was wanting to know when you pull the cardboard through the machine how do you know how far to pull it each time? Thanks!
@LisaPottsDesigns
@LisaPottsDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bill! Hope you LOVE your machine. When doing passthrough, the screen will prompt you to move it about eight inches, and at least three inches of the design should still be in the machine. After that, the Glowforge will take a picture and try to align. If it's having issues, it's more than likely moved too far forward and doesn't have enough of the previous cut in the machine for alignment.

Great video Lisa! Was the protective sheets left on the acrylic sign until you were done or did you already peel it off on the front before attaching the cutout graphics?

Awesome awesome awesome job! It looks great! I’m unclear on one thing though... when you placed all of your lettering on the frosted acrylic sheet, it looks like the frosted sheet still had the masking on it. Am I mistaken? If not, how did you get the masking off if you already placed your lettering on it?
