Overvolted Halloween Toys: What Happens at 300V?

I put higher voltage on Halloween props/animatronics primarily using a 0-30V bench power supply. But some toys required even more voltage to die! Used a Variac with a full bridge rectifier (input 230V) when I needed more than 30V.

One type of Halloween novelty that would be fun to overvolt would be those skeletons or little ghosts that dangle from a string. When you clap near them, they jiggle, flash their eyes and make a 2 tone whining noise. As long as you don't destroy them, particularly if they're Gemmy novelties.

My friend and I were hedging bets on what rating the caps were in these toys. That DJ skeleton must have had at least 25V caps in it as it took 30V for them to explode.

They were actually rated for 10V 220uF connected in series, so 20V combined. Odd circuit design, must be cheaper to use a single cap with higher rating? Or just a single one of these as the voltage would never be higher than 5-6V with fully charged batteries
