It's always difficult to justify all of the different hero archetypes when you try to make a coherent and reasonable lore. Like if a hero squad want's to be truly optimised, they would recruit mostly tall buff men or something like that. To justify this 19-y-old girl, they actually made some pretty clever lore. The first omnic crisis required an impromptu call to arms to fight it. The meka suits were all prepared but they haven't fully trained anyone to pilot the novel new tech. Conventional soldiers could aim a gun. Can that immediately translate to aiming with a joystick? They had to improvise with a demographic that are adept to learning new consoles very quickly. Here comes 5 prodigious gamers. From there, consider some real world factors: 1) Sth Korea has a strong TV-idol culture. Perhaps they are so popular to the public that they influenced the government to make them permanent agents 2) Sth Korea has a mandatory draft that requires every citizen to serve a few years. So recruiting barely adults is already not unprecedented. All and all, they did their absolute best to make reasonable justifications for recruiting 19 year old gamer girl.

It's also clear that she has some serious psychological scarring. Her mech is a coping mechanism - if it's ready and undamaged, than she feels confident, but seeing even that single scratch on it (admittedly a sizable one but essentially cosmetic damage) immediately made her think of the moment she felt her team being taken down one after another around her. When it's destroyed by the reactor explosion, she throws herself, while still unable to so much as walk unassisted, right into building a new one. Sure, that floating structure is a nice place to live (I think it's MEKA's base of operations, maybe? I doubt it's just _her_ house, even if she is a celebrity hero and all), but it also isolates her from the nation somewhat, while keeping her nearby, thus allowing for admittedly shady governmental and military practices but also hiding that mental state of hers. I'm unsure as to whether she gets the help she needs (being part of a team of five while the other four are out of commission definitely is a low point for her in any case) but certainly Dae-hyun (the mechanic friend) is helping her perhaps more than he knows - though, given how secure that place is sure to be, and likely under constant surveillance just in case given what they're up against is a constantly adapting force not afraid of innocent casualties, he might only be allowed there because he's integral to her continued mental well-being, rather than by her request - and yes, he's obviously a bit friendzoned. Part of it is admittedly that the game is rated too low for it, but also consider that Hana is 19. She already is under the stress of being part of her nation's last remaining lines of defense, and has likely seen friends die around her and right in front of her at the hands of an enemy that does not care and will do it again. She doesn't have the mental stability to worry herself over that, and I think he knows it - he might want to later in life, sure, but he certainly does not seem to have any intent to stress her out with that sort of development. They also appear to be childhood friends, given the whole hoverbike story and just how they interact - and that he's allowed to be there in what is essentially her home in the first place - among other things. It's a big turning point to her to admit that she needs his help, and to let even him see through that shell crafted by propaganda and training, that she is this always-ready unbeatable opponent without even trying any more than as if it were a game, is a big mental perspective shift for her. The way this is portrayed is excellent, and is actually exceptionally darker than a mere 'and they're in a relationship' type of thing, but whatever. Not like the companies care for, I dunno, psychological scarring exactly like what is depicted here on a more extreme scale for the sake of getting the message across. Wonderful world we're in. Anyways I should probably stop psychoanalyzing a fictional character now

the medias here want to prevent a panic. the MEKAs are their sole line of defense against the gwishin, and if they fail, everyone die. In that context, would you want the public to know last mission was a near defeat? Also it helps that competitive gaming is treated like soccer is in otehr countries, so Dva and her teammates were probably already recognized stars even before she got in a MEKA, and the medias just followed suit to help presenting the situation in a reassuring manner. As for her being a child soldier, its purely because they needed gamers to operate the mechs instead of soldiers: helps a lot witht he fact the defense matrix does NOT automatically shoot projectiles down, but rather assists the pilot in doing just that manually; and it here dva's ability to realise many actions in a very short time (APM or actions per minute in gaming terms, which she calls out in game when using the matrix, supporteb by the fact she is an avid starcraft player where having an apm as high as possible is a hallmark of competitive players) makes her an ideal pilot, and most proficient gamers are very young adults. That and since the Gwishin is an adaptive threat that always comes back prepared for what defeated it last time, maybe once again gamers that know how to improvise and take calculated risks while working as a team would be better than a military that would operate more "by the book" and thus would be more predictable/less creative. hell even the weaponry of Dva's meka reflects that: automatic shotguns instead of a more accurate weapon, thus using a weapon thats not easily predictable and avoidable by a machine Overall she is the best choice for the task.. and at 19 she's an adult mind you, even if still very young (she didnt do this for years on end).

You know how people think, guy is worried about a girl == love interest. You know, even when she clearly puts herself in mortal danger multiple times fighting these things, it just has to be love and couldn't possibly be anything else, like a dude being worried about a friend he's known for ages 😁. But I agree. He even states, "How about getting me on the VIP list of one of those fancy restaurants." he isn't even concerned to go to one of those restaurants with her, since he says me instead of us. But that's my speculation.

As D.Va sees it, they are kinda having the best date she could think of already... While it's surely true that Dae-hyun would like to go to those restaurants, I always interpreted the ending as them making fun of the over the top media campaign about D.Va.

@@rainofkhandaq6678 Not in my experience , and I don't say it was a fact , i said in my opinion not all "Friendzone" end up friendzoned , anything can happen , have you heard of "Stockholm syndrome" it can also apply on anything . Example : When I was a kid my mother din't like lizards and won't let me get one , but eventaully i got one and she eventually started handling and carring for lizard more then me , but that period for almost half a year she was "NO WAY" type of person. And this is just on example , not all "Frindezones" are just a hard NO Life is interesting and so are people sometimes you can build something more out of nothing and it can hit you out of nowhere. You can learn to like someone eventually or dislike someone that you actually liked in the first place. vise versa.
