Thank you so much for putting out such great info and videos on overwintered flowers. Could you please consider putting out videos on planting overwintered flowers in the fall, and maybe how they look at different stages throughout the winter and how you followed the planting spreadsheet for timing the planting for your location. I understand this would be a big undertaking but it would be very helpful. Just seeing what size the plants are when you transplant them into the high tunnel would be awsome.

Hi there! Long time fan of Johnny's here. Quick question about this Scabiosa: it listed as cold hardy perennial zone 3-7. I live in zone 8b Austin Texas. What would it be like in zone 8? Will it survive the summer heat here? Also, why a hardiness list as zone a-b instead of zone 3 and above? Thanks a lot!

Hello! Some scabiosa varieties are hardy to Zone 8 or even 9, but Fama Deep Blue and Fama White are an exception. In Zone 8, the plants would probably not get enough cold hours to initiate blooms, so you might not get any flowers, or you might get just a few. In general, scabiosa does not do well in heat. If the plants are in partial shade and are watered as needed, they might survive, but they will probably stop blooming during the hottest weather. In regards to hardiness zones, the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map has zones from 1a to 13 b. The Fama scabiosas don’t like to get too cold or too hot. They do best in Zones 3 through 7.

Thanks so much! That answered one of my long time question. I always wonder why cold hardiness need a "upper boundary". I just thought the heat might kill the plant in the summer, never considered the cold hour factor. Thank you!!! @@JohnnysSeeds

May I ask what the tall blue flower is that’s growing in the background?
