Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. When I was researching the multistrada I came across your high mileage video and how you explained that there were no engine issues which helped me decide to buy a s/h multistrada. Each to their own but I have never got on with the inline fours (with the exception of the Yamaha MT10) that engine configuration is quiet bland and uninvolving to own and ride. On a really hot day in stop start traffic in France on the multi I actually thought that my right trouser leg had caught fire! Jez. Hope you had a good tour and look forward to more vids.

Thanks for the message Frank, glad I could help! I know what you mean about the heat, on our tour last month we were caught in traffic in the middle of Seville in 41c heat! Never again! 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

Another great video Trevor 👍 Funny enough, I used XR's for work/commuting for quite a few years, and did 100,000 miles on Gen 1 and Gen 2 bikes. Fuel averaged low 40mpg, (50's for the Multi) and tyres (Metzeler Roadtec 01SE's) about the same wear as the Multistrada. However, my Multistrada was kept as my weekend and holiday bike, as it's just such a nicer bike to ride for me. The Gen 1 XR was less refined than the Gen 2, in fact the perfect XR would be a Gen 1 engine in a Gen 2 chassis. However, for me the Multistrada is the better all-around bike and the one that makes me smile.

Thanks for the videos, helped push me over the edge to upgrade my tracer to a 1260s Multi which I received today and I'm in love! What a machine. Tips for the screen etc also very helpful. I'm off to Spain and Portugal too, a trip I wanted to do for years. Sailing next next week, vamos!

Good honest review.. I tried the new XR before settling on my 1260s. The only downside for me was the locked in feeling of the seat which I found uncomfortable after a while... much preferred the power delivery of the Multi too along with it's looks ❤️ Good to see you back 👍🏻

Thanks Andrew, yeah I agree with the lock-in feeling of the seat, Chris felt the same initially, but he loves it now that he’s used to it..👌

Subscribed! I have the 2022 pack model. The bike is sublime. Not very keen for two up on longer rides. That’s more the realm of the GS. But that’s a concept or sport touring adventure bike, that really is adorable for the sportiness and the comfort of it at the same time. Brilliant. Isn’t it? That escapade to Spain and Portugal, definitely will open the engine up and the tech checking was fundamental in order to assure that everything will be ok in next September. My bike has no relevant buzzing or vibration coming from the engine, at all. I think that BMW corrected something in 2020 with the second generation. The bike runs smoother, from what I’ve heard . On 2024 a new M version is coming to the Market and I’m auspicious about the launching of that new Iteration, so let’s wait and see✌️✌️

Hi Trevor great to hear from you again. You brother never said what he thought of your bike and how different it is to ride compared to his. I know that on a ducati multistrada 1260s how much more it is to service but its the sound and torque I get from my multistrada that keeps me hooked im afraid as I'm sure you agree. Glad to see you back and hope your back on the road again soon. Keep up the good work Trevor and take care. Andy

Been waiting for this video for a long time. I’ve been stuck between these bikes for months, great to hear your non-biased views. One thing I’d love to hear more of is the characteristics difference in more detail, as you say the MTS has that low down grunt, is that more forgiving in the twisties, I feel the XR needs more attention to ensure you’re in the right gear when getting out of a slow speed corner, wheras the MTS you can be a little more lazy with the gears and still have plenty of torque to push you out of the corner. Meaning the MTS is a more relaxed ride, in my opinion. You talked briefly of performance, what did that actually look like when you rolled on, again I imagine the extra torque saw the MTS pull on the XR with the XR catching back up once you wound it up? Thanks again
@MouldyPIX
@MouldyPIX Жыл бұрын
Thanks the comment, you’re 100% right - when we did the roll on performance tests I was at least one gear lower than the XR. The power band of the XR is naturally in the higher rev range, whereas the MTS can hold its gear longer and allow the torque to do the work. All-in-all they achieve the same result, but as I said in the video, they do it very differently! This characteristic is also very noticeable when accelerating out of the corners, I love the feel of the torque from the MTS the gives a really “strong/powerful” feel, whereas the with the XR you’re more like “screaming” it out of the corners at full tilt! Both definitely have their fun factor, especially the XR with his ProRace slash-cut exhaust which makes an epic sound, but I’m not sure I could put up with it on a weeks long tour! 🤣🥴😉

I haven't driven that exact bmw but I know the bmw multis from having owned one some years ago. For me, as for Trevor, I much prefer the pull of the 1260 out of the corners (and everywhere else), it is very satisfying. The engine on the 1260 is really something - a bmw multi might achieve the same end result but for me the way it gets there is nowhere near as thrilling as with the 1260.

Love your videos and copied a lot of what you did with your MTS. Had the Crosstourer VFR1200 back in 2015, great reliable bike but a little too top heavy for my liking. Changed to a 2019 MTS 1260S 3 years ago and just love the bike. Many an hour stood in the garage during the winter months longing for the better weather. However, I thought it was time for a change and have just ordered an S1000XR which is due next week. I agree with Chris that you are further back on the XR but that suits me as I did find the MTS did have a tendency to slide you forward into the tank and I was constantly readjusting my seating position whereas I didn't get this with the XR on the test ride. My only gripe with the MTS. Maybe not being the tallest could be a factor. I was also surprised at how much better I found the XR to handle. It was effortless and I felt much more confident on tight corners especially. Although I've had a licence for 35 years, I've never ridden abroad. Chris, you put me to shame!!

Thanks for the video mate, I really enjoyed it although I did find a couple of things surprising. I recently sold a 2016 1200S Multistrada after only 7 months of ownership because I had nothing but trouble with it. It had a full Arrow exhaust and Rapid Bike tune and although I rode it very conservatively I could not get better than 6.1 ltrs/100km (I live in Sydney and that converts to about 38mpg) so I was surprised you managed 50mpg. I was also surprised your Multi is a fast as the S1000XR. I appreciate mine was only 1200 (not 1260 like yours but I don’t think there is that much difference in speed) but I have ridden an S1000XR and it was considerably faster than my Multi. And maintenance costs, I paid $880 for new chain and sprockets for it which is almost twice as much as I have paid for chain and sprockets on my current Yamaha. For me it was a disappointing period of ownership because the Multi was an awesome bike just reliability issues and maintenance costs (it was due for a $2000 Desmo service) made it a very bad experience for me. Either way I am glad you love your Multi and I am envious you can ride some of those amazing roads in France and Spain fairly easily……enjoy and stay safe!!!

Your fuel consumption on the '16 is very similar to what I get on the '13. Great bike, but heavy fuel consumption. On my '18 (1260) I genuinely get well over 50 mpg (that's imperial gallons of course). I was really surprised that the fuel consumption was that much better on the '18.

Hey Donny, thanks for the feedback. To be fair/honest on the performance characteristics and comparison I’ve had a sprocket change to a 15/42 setup, which gives me more “pull” low down. Our tests didn’t go above 100mph, so we were probably in the sweetspot to maximise the Multi’s low end torque advantages. The XR, like all BMW in-line 4’s need to be in the higher rev range to really the benefit. This is the main reason why I love twins - low end torque and pull. Funnily enough, my brother (Chris) has also admitted, finally!, that the characteristics of a twin may suit him better…,hence he’s just bought a 2012 KTM RC8….that’s going to be the subject of our next head-to-head in a couple of months time…stay tuned! 😎😀

I took some time out and regrettably sold my MS1260S last year. I then took some time out because of a trapped nerve in my neck. I've been buying one bike after another and finally settled on a new KTM1290Adventure S... until this Friday when I get a 2018 1260S with very low mileage in perfect condition to supplement the KTM. There's no doubt in my mind that the Multi1260S is the best all round bike I ever had. Hopefully I will do some comparisons but I already know the Multi with the Term full exhaust and up-map has nicer lower end/mid power/torque. I realised when I did some overtaking at the weekend on the KTM. Prob needed a lower gear and loads more revs to hit the power band. The Multi would just have flown by no build up.

Very interesting, maybe the KTM could also do with a different rear sprocket? I, like many other MTS owners changed the sprockets to a 15t/42t setup..best mod I ever did! 👌

Hey Simon, just over 62,000 miles at the moment. Had a 6 month lay-off since mid February this year, don’t ask…🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. Now back on it again and a few European trips scheduled over the next 2 months. I’ll pop another video up at end of Sept as I’ve had a few things done to the bike whilst it’s been laid up! Cheers. Fuel economy same as my 1260 Multi, usually see 52ish trashing it through Spain two up and fully luggaged chasing our mates on 1290 KTM

Thanks Phil, I heard that the fuel economy on the KTM 1290 SAS is significantly better than the Multi, some people reporting over 60mm. Amazing considering the power that KTM pushes out.

Nice video, what tail tidy or fender eliminator did you install on the Ducati? Was the kit good out of the box or are there minor changes to do?

I fitted the EVOTECH Performance tail today. Excellent quality, fitted out of the box, albeit a little time consuming with the electrical reworking…all instructions were easy to follow though… It’s been on the bike for over 2 years with no problems at all.!

Thanks for the video Trevor. Why do you not like top boxes?
@MouldyPIX
@MouldyPIX 11 ай бұрын
Hey Chris, I find that when the top box is fully loaded it noticeably changes the handling dynamic, must be something to do with all that weight beyond the rear wheel? I found with the Kreiga bags, mounted on the pillion, was much better. Also (personal opinion!), I think the top box spoils the looks of the bike! 🤣 Having said all of the above I’ll probably take the top box on my upcoming trip to Spain and Portugal! 🤣
