I chose the Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak over the BMW XR. For me one of the draw backs of the XR was the riders saddle is a bit bucket shaped and didn't feel comfortable. I prefer the looks of the Ducati and the 170 horses are more than enough for sporty rides up and down mountain twisty roads or on the endless routes through Schwarzwald. Even at low to moderate RPM the Pikes Peak will make you smile every time you twist the throttle. I was surprised as how well the PP handles tight turns and long rides with passenger and luggage are just perfect with this bike. My Girlfriend and I just returned from a 4000km tour around Italy and we had a blast riding through the countryside twisty roads (even with the terrible condition of the Italian side roads)

Hard to argue. I made a similar move to a PP, but from a KTM SD GT. Same feeling as you. The KTM CAN be a sport tourer. But it's a modded Superduke in the end--and the old, outdated one at that--compared to the PP. The PP IS a sport tourer.

Will have to see all the changes made to the XR. I owned a second gen XR, nice bike, but the seat was horrible. Traded the XR for a Pikes Peak, added the race exhaust & tune. The Pikes Peak is easily the better bike if you can afford it. More torque in low and mid RPM, better handling/suspension and it is more comfortable. Nicer looking as well. I am anxious to see the M1000XR though. I am sure it will be faster on a track, but on public roads I am not so sure the extra power will translate into better performance on twisty roads where torque is what matters.

S1000XR owner for 3 years now. Dont think this bike gets enough credit for what it can do. All rounder in my eyes. Touring with my wife for 3 week, bimble round the town and amazing on the twisties. Only grumble is the standard seat. Had to spend £300 to make it right. The price of the PP would put me off. The BMW triple black TE has 90% of the extras compared to the PP and £8 or £9k cheaper.

Waiting for the BMW to compare to my awesome Multi PP. Do NOT think the standard multi V4 S IS a PP. MOST things are different on the PP--from chassis specs--including swing arm, rake, trail/electronic settings/wheels/tires/Ohlins suspension/brakes/swing arm and front chassis dimension/handlebars/footpeg dimensions are all somewhat-to-very different between the two Multis. The two Multis are more different than alike. Coming from a very good KTM Superduke GT--I was nervous buying the PP. Not anymore. PP IS the best sport tourer with very good two-up capacity and comfort. Super duke GT is a 8.0. Pikes Peak is a 9.5. Will this BMW trump both? I am concerned this revver motor wont see the power peak much so that leaves torque/drivability between 3000-8000 rpms, where the motor on a bike like this will be used 99% of the time. We shall see.

I drove the Multistrada V4 Rally yesterday and a few BMWs Last year. The Multi is fantastic, but after 2 Hours of riding I can‘t sitt no longer of this Bike. The Seat is to hard and no matter of what Mode I drove, the Suspension could be a littel softer. For longer Tours I loved the BMW R1250RS. Two Days in the Eifel didn‘t do no harm to my back. 245 km/h was Easy and felt very Safe on the Autobahn. It‘s a littel bit Heavy and a littel bit high for me. But what a Dream of a Touring Bike! But I didn‘t want to spend that much for my first Touring Bike, so I bought an Triumph Tiger 1200 GT. I am quite happy with my pick.

As for the radar, I had a 2021 KTM SA 1290S and did four hour highway rides a couple of times a month for a while. I never liked sitting in traffic locked on to the car in front, I ended up turning it off and punching out into clear road away from the bunch, then using normal cruise. Not for me. Would much prefer rear warning.

Not fan of radar cruise control. I understand matching the slower speed but if I am catching up I am going to pass at some point anyway plus with all of the systems I have encountered when pulling out to pass the acceleration times are slow and now there is someone I am holding up so I just end up flooring it to get out of the way. It’s the gran turismo engine with valve springs, it has a much lower redline at like 10.5k but has considerably more torque down low and the mid range. Also with tuning, exhaust and a filter they pick up alot of power. It’s not exactly fair to compare the two because the Ducati has a more tammed down V4 which also btw has 35k miles “USA miles” service interval and like i said its a good road engine. I have a streetfighter V4 it’s amazing but for an everyday bike it’s way too much, the advantage with the BMW is its shift cam tech, when working correctly will give you the same torque as my streetfighter down low and all the same top end. The grand turismo engine btw makes a good 10 foot pounds over me, it comes down too what do you want A more streamlined V4 with a lot of low end or a high revving good top end power inline 4. But i do agree Ducati should of shoved in my engine into the pikes peak edition Just my two cents

Wondering: If a "screamer" motor is ideal for bikes in this segment. I rarely rode my former KTM Superduke GT and current Pikes Peak over 8000 rpms. Especially as this is for "wife to ride on" bike. Yeah--I tricked her! Of course--the ride will tell the tale, but I'd like to se a Dyno graph of each overlaid to assess the "area under the curve" in the typical road-riding rpms. My PP did achieve a max torque on Dyno of 92-ft. lbs at about 7000-ish rpms. Good torque. At reasonable rpms. My SD GT did 97 ft lbs. around same RPM range.

I would have bought even a standard Multi V4S if it was a bit cheaper, and lighter. Couldn't justify it over a non-M S1000RR. I prefer the clip-ons riding position and I found a new 2022 S1000RR for 20k. I went to Ducati and specced up a Pikes Peak with some typical options, it came to 35k!

@@MattNeighbour Not a fair comparison, as the S1000RR is, like the Panigale, a race bike for the street. Plus, you can't compare pricing of a top-of-the-line Multi to a base S1000RR. Try the M version BMW superbike instead, which ain't cheap either.
@MattNeighbour
@MattNeighbour 11 ай бұрын
@@rlsedition the purchasing decision was 2022 S1000RR (with most of the option packs included) vs Multistrada V4S. Still cheaper. The M1000RR is worse for the road as it doesn't have the electronic suspension, and it's better compared to a Panigale V4R. It comes down to whether you want a touring bike that's been made more sporty (Pikes Peak) or a superbike that's comfortable enough to ride to the track or the Alps.

Active Cruise Control is ridiculous. Get into a luxury car and tune out properly. A bike is fully immersive and that’s the which of the why for riding at all-for me. Then again I eschew any 6-8 hour days in the saddle except once or twice every so often.

The standard S1000XR is faster than the Duke but then I would go for the 1250GS if I had to have an adventure style bike. The torque on the boxer is 143NM at 6250 vs the Ducati at 125NM at 8750... no contest. Also when you look at used bike sales the BMW's have much higher kilometers / miles and the Ducatis have very little use. That should tell you everything.... Why have an adventure style bike that is not designed for off road use ? Buy a real road bike instead...

Can you point me to "better torque" on BMW? My Multi PP wheel dynoed at 92-ft pounds peaking at wheel around 7-7500 RPMs--off memory. Of course max horsepower would be lower on the PP but It's rare to run it to even the 10,000 redline in real world riding. I ride tourer bikes around 3000-8000 98% of the time. I'd like to see the torque/power of both motors in that range.

@BMWHP2 11 ай бұрын
at 1.22 in the video it tells you the 200Hp and 147kW for the BMW. Most riders use the BMW also in that RPM range. And that is where the highest kW numbers come from. Watts and Newton meters is widely used in the rest of the Metric world. You can easily convert it online, to countries where people still use feet and stuff.

@@BMWHP2 Wonder if this motor is EXACTLY the one in the 1000R? I guess kW IS horsepower? And at what RPM is it that? Nothing will replace two Dyno graphs overlayed, me thinks. "Area under the curve" between 3-8000 rpm is what I'm wondering about. Pardon my ignorance on the kW-horsepower thing.

@@tomtraynor5384 I have been dynoing many motorbikes over the last 40 years. When comparing same brand, same model, same year, there hardly is any significant difference. All within 1% or 2%, and that goes for all stock motorbikes. The BMW shown is not the standard 1000R, but the M1000XR derived from the M1000RR that has 212Hp. So a little down on Hp to 200Hp and camshafts more set for torque. I have seen numbers around 86ft pounds at the wheel 8900 RPM, for the 2023 M1000RR model. The M1000XR model should be set for less Hp and more Tq.

@@BMWHP2 I think I understand. :). So here are some data an actual dyno from the near identical to the new M XR motor (?) M1000R: MAX torque of 83 ft lbs at 11,100 rpm vs my PP dyno showing 92 ft lbs at 7300 rpm. The M1000R produces 75-81(with a tune) ft lbs torque at the same 7300 rpm’s as my PP is producing 92 ft lbs at 7300 rpm’s. So the BMW is a screamer motor, requiring more rpm to still not really match torque of the PP. Of course the butt dyno will be all that matters. At any rate-I will 100% be looking at the new XR M1000R. I just enjoy having the higher torque at more real world accessible torque. I even miss my old KTM GT a bit in that regard. Thing could punch out of low rpm’s like Mike Tyson. If KTM totally upgraded the GT-I’m back looking at that too. But it is a bit of a small chassis for a bike ridden 90% two-up. Nice “problem” trying to discern the cream of a now very rich crop of ultra performance sport tourers. Ride safe.
