Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

I love the way Mila's voice goes up when she says she's a "good witch," like shes testing it out, asking him to believe her. Such good acting!

i cried while watching this movie, I think I was so upset on how the wicked witch manipulated her sister and made her become evil. For once i didnt want it to follow the books and I wanted the 'good witch" to get with Oz. It just seemed him playing with her heart and then falling for another woman was what really crushed her, even though most of it was her sisters fault. I also think I get too emotional in movies x3

It really felt nostalgic when I saw the black and white opening. I felt a tear coming down from my eyes. I remembered how good it was to be a kid without the cares in the world weighing you down. The 1930's film is a classic and will forever be one of my childhood favorites. I kept on waiting for the Munchkins to show up and dance on the film. It was fun and entertaining and had the "ohhhhh" factor which was a sudden gush of realization on how it relates to the 1939 film, since it's a prequel.

This is a totally INCREDIBLE movie!! The acting by all the actors was superb, they were all perfectly cast, and the film was just so beautiful. I love it so much!

I watched this movie like when i was 8, gonna watch it again now to relive my fav movie at the time, even after so many years have passed it still looks very good, it even looks better than some other modern movies

Glinda was my childhood hero. Although my dad always read me the Russian rip-off of the books where she was called Stella. I watched this movie yesterday and even though a thing or two bothered me about it, it made me fall in love with the original story all over again.

*Happy 10th Anniversary* to this movie! One of my favorite movies in early 2013. Which ironically introduced to The Wizard of Oz, although i watched Return to Oz first when i was a kid.

News, "We're all signed on for sequels".[citation needed] On March 8, 2013, Sam Raimi told Bleeding Cool that he has no plans to direct the sequel, saying, "I did leave some loose ends for another director if they want to make the picture", and that "I was attracted to this story, but I don't think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested". On March 11, 2013, Joe Roth said to the Los Angeles Times that the sequel would "absolutely not" involve Dorothy, with Kapner pointing out that there are twenty years between the events of the first film and Dorothy's arrival, and "a lot can happen in that time". As of 2022, Disney has not begun development on a sequel.

The main thing I remember about the Wizard is that he was really a pretty normal man who, through circumstances beyond his control, wound up having to deal with things he had NO idea how to deal with. He wasn't bad, he was scared. When Ozma was restored and he was able to, he went off to study with Glinda and learn about REAL Magic. In time he bacame a truely GREAT Wizard, but never considered himself as anything but a poor latecomer, trying hard to 'catch-up.'

This is my childhood movie my dad and I watched it all the time! I watched the spanish dubbed and never heard in english so it's a surprise but now I think about my dad because he said he was going to buy milk and he hasn't came back since xD
