I have been on Ozempic, supervised by my GP, for 6 months to help me lose excess weight. I have been in so many different weightloss education programs, applying good nutrition & weigh and measure everything, smaller plates - smaller meals, using logic and distraction activities. Nothing worked. My use of prescription Ozempic stopped the ravenous hunger. No cravings. I have had zero hypoglycemia issues. My body is happy with smaller balanced meals. I am finally losing weight, 40lbs so far. I am now able to walk more. I feel better and my joints hurt a little less. I have a 2-3 year plan to get down to a healthy weight with increased fitness goals along the way.

Fantastic! You've summarized it nicely. No ravenous hunger, no cravings. You're doing great. I just started (1 dose which leaked a little!) and I'm absolutely prepared to be on it for life. It's what I (and we all) need to stop letting our brains/guts control our lives. Hoping soon there will be pills or something simpler than an injectable pen.

I was put on ozempic a few months back. It has helped curb my appetite to some extent but it hasn't been a miracle drug I still need to make good food choices and exercise. It's a tool that can help but at the end of the day my obesity is only going to be cured by making sustained lifestyle changes.

if all it is doing is helping you not to put on more weight like it does for me than it is doing its job as far as i am concerned as i have mobility issues as well as diabetic so this has helped me to keep from putting more weight on but loosing weight is another matter.
@DanK123
@DanK123 Жыл бұрын
Incorrect. "Making lifestlye changes" is next to impossible for almost everybody, thanks to our brains fighting against us and wanting to stay at the higher weight we've been. Almost everybody reverts back to their old weight. It's a disease. Ozempic/Wegovy/etc makes us less hungry and slows gastric emptying. When you're not hungry and driven to eat food all the time, you lose weight. Please don't say things like "it's not a miracle drug" when it's actually quite miraculous and changing people's live. Look at obesity as...hemophilia or seizures or any other lifelong condition that you need medication for.

@@DanK123 set point has nothing to do with lifestyle and your set point can be reset. Usually it resets every 3-6 months provided change is consistent. If, for example, you take up soccer and plau twice a week every week for a year while adjusting your diet to meet your new energy needs you will lose weight and your set point will adjust. Not by much but by some.

No, they're produced separately with different names under different licenses. Doctors have always prescribed various drugs for people off label. Adderall for weight loss, etc. This is nothing new. It'll be just fine. Novo Nordisk has tons of money to make with this life changing drug and is surely ramping up production as word spreads.

No, you need a prescription. Ozempic is the diabetes version, Wegovy is the weight loss version. For Wegovy, the guidelines are (I believe) that somebody with BMI of 30 or higher or a BMI of 27 or higher with weight related health issues. It's not "illegal" to prescribe otherwise, but doctors are supposed to follow this guideline. When there's truly enough of this so that there's no "shortage" nobody will care. I think things have already improved and there's more product available. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually a large percentage of us are taking this to regulate our eating to stay healthy. As long as it's safe (or safe enough) then I think it's truly life changing.

Diabetes can also be 'cured' by people making serious lifestyle changes...but people are not expected to do that. The insurance companies keep covering their medications, doctors & society keeps accepting that & their high use of healthcare. So, with all of the hurtful aspects of being extremely obese, carrying an extra 50 lbs on your skeleton, that should also deserve medication...for life. FOR LIFE....because without it, many lose it.

Yes, the diabetes center and my pharmacist actually told me there were no side effects. If I had known what they were, I never would have taken it. Had a prior endocrinologist rule it out because of my medical history. I took 2 doses, and I was throwing up constantly, exhausted, and in a ton of pain. I was having hypoglycaemic episodes and couldn’t get anything down to treat them. It took my body months to recover.
