A comparison between Gullfoss and the Ozone module would have been more appropriate than comparing it to a resonance suppressor like Soothe. I think that DSEQ and Soothe are rather a different category.

Yes, I generally agree with that. DSEQ and Soothe are really in their own zone, but I wanted to mention soothe because it's so popular/the industry standard, and they both use a similar FFT/DFT bin technique, which I thought was interesting. Thanks for watching!

In addition to these I've been experimenting with Gullfoss while side chaining pink or other noise profiles. The Recover and Tame buttons give me more control over adding or subtracting I also use Ceilings of Sound to create various sound profiles and again, side chain them to Gullfoss.

Very interesting indeed! So, you sidechain noise into Gullfoss to affect its equalization, which is what Clarity is doing, but via FFT. I haven't had a chance to check out Ceilings of Sound yet, but I've been meaning to.

Good call in re Ozone Clarity. The inability to process signal below 300 Hz is definitely a drawback. If, as the presenter notes, Izotope is saying,"Trust us, you needn't be bothering with frequencies lower than 300 Hz," that's all well and good. Still, I'd like to be able to see for myself if this is in fact the case. A sensible solution would be to have the plugin default to its ideal slider positions (maybe even with the lower slider deactivated until turned on by the user), and then allow users to adjust parameters without arbitrarily imposed restrictions - especially as it's well known the 250 Hz region is common problem area, etc.

Agreed, that sounds great. I'm not sure why they limited this. It reminds me of Deres, where they limited resonance suppression to only 1k-8k. What if I have a resonance around 800hz? Too bad. Seems like an odd choice, but I guess both plugins were made with the intention of only dealing with the mid-to-high-midrange. Great point! Cheers!

Great video! For a spectral processor in Ozone that works on the bass (300 hz and below) you could try Low End Focus

brother... ozone has clarity for lowend, its called low end focus. Its absolutely intelligent how they handle this in 2 seperate plugins because both ends need different types of modules and soundshaping. Low end focus reaches to max 300hz so the whole spectrum is analyzed with clarity and low end focus. Wish you did check that out before making these statements in the video.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the mid/side and transient/sustain option with those Ozone modules. Also, if you go into the preset there’s some resonance removal presets and other things to manipulate the processing a bit more.

grate explanation bro.....I always wonder the difference beetwen clarity and neutron sculptor.....they both do a wonderfull job though

Thanks so much! Yeah, Izotope has a lot of spectral correction plugins that are similar. Neutron works via analysis against previous spectral profiles, and is a dynamic multiband compressor, whereas Clarity is spectral FFT bands adjusting the signal to match noise profiles. I guess iZotope wanted us to use Clarity together with Low End Focus. Maybe they should've combined them into one intuitive module. I personally don't like to have too much latency in my projects and LEF alone has like 200ms of it. 😅

Yes, good point: most Izotope plugins introduce a lot of latency, so they're not for tracking or casual mixing purposes. Ozone is a mastering suite, so it makes more sense there. Yes, it does! Just keep in mind it's targeted more towards the mid range, and Low End Focus handles the muddy low end. Cheers!

ozone does 1000 things good, but nothing great. soothe does 1 thing, and does it great. theres no way around this because izotope is focused on yearly updates and profits

I think there is some truth to that. They used to lead the pack in restoration, but companies like Accentize are zipping past them, and so many modules are similar, I don't find myself reaching for them too often. But I do think the EQs and limiters are top notch, especially since the EQ is free now. Thanks for watching, cheers!

Cognitive bias. I thought the Ozone mixes sounded better than the Sooth ones. Any business is about making profit. It's only bad if they sacrifice quality for said profits. Which iZotope does not do. Everyone is bashing them since NI takeover. And so what? The industry is hurting badly because of inflation and a recovering economy from Covids. The buy-outs are meant to keep these companies going, otherwise they would be forced to closed down permanently..and that would SUCK!

Ozone 11 Advanced does a loT great. Also, this isn’t the proper plugin from Ozone to pit against Soothe 2. That would be Ozone Stabilizer. Maybe give this another shot.
