My biggest concern with all the Oztents was transporting the tent from the car to the tent site/shed/house etc - they're pretty heavy and I'm not getting any younger. I found a cheap kayak trolley strapped to the front end of the bag made the whole transport problem a non issue. And as a bonus, I can use it to move my kayak...... Love the skylight feature too.

Thanks for your insights, quedecree. I agree that the only downside of the Oztent range is their weight and size when packed. If you can find a workaround for this, as you have done, then you'll love the ease of use and durability of any Oztent RX or RV tent. ~ Ben

I'm in Canada and I'm looking for a over-landing winter tent. Would you say it could be winter proofed with a stove by installing a stove funnel opener modification kit? is the skylight just mesh or has it a seal-able cover? is the skylight clear cover plastic? do you know it has a temperature rating for the tent? e.g. -40C - +40. Just don't want the plastics snapping because they are brittle with the cold?
@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Being in Australia we're not comfortably equipped with the knowledge we need to recommend the RX5's suitability for a Canadian winter sorry, Kurt. I'm not sure what the stove funnel opener kit is you mention, it's not something we have down here. The skylight is mesh and Oztent don't put a temperature rating on the tent to answer your other questions. These are designed and used for outback touring in Oz where the environment can be pretty harsh in terms of wear and tear, and UV damage. However, even with my limited knowledge of your country I'm sure it would also be suitable for similar use in Canada. I hope this helps. ~ Ben

Hey Ben, great work mate , I am looking at ordering one of those soon . I was wondering , when it’s all packed up in the bag , would the frame bend on the roof bars while travelling ? Should I get a roof rack instead for transportation ? Thank you
@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
A little bit of flex is ok, Morgan, you'd need to assess is based on the spacing of your roof rails. It is a good idea to try and minimise the flex though. You can always use a panel of timber attached to your roof rails onto which the tent is strapped, this will offer more support. I have heard of people transporting them on regular roof bars without issues though. ~ Ben

So can you still use and setup just the sleeping section like the rv5. But all by itself if you only needed to sleep for the night.
@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
That's correct, Jared. Without the Complete Panel System and Zip-in floor attached the tent is simply an enclosed sleeping area with a front awning, or, roll the awning up and just use the single room for an ultra-fast set-up. This is essentially then, as you mention, the same as the RV5 without any accessories attached.

Hi. I have an RV3, can I just buy the walls and poles to set up an extra room on the front?
@SnowysOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
You can buy peaked side panels for the RV3, Paul, which is a set of two side walls and the required poles. Add a front wall and you can enclose the space. However, you cannot get a zip-in floor for the RV range, this is unique to the RX range. The walls and floor that come with the RX tents are not available separately and don't suit the RV range either. ~ Ben

4:45 - they could have fixed that air gap issue so easily with a long (5 inch) zip overlap and then velcro seal over but i guess thats too hard. maybe in the updated version.
@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
There are velcro tabs surrounding the gap, BikeStuff, but not an overlap quite like you mention. There may be a reason for this but it's still a well sealed area more than suitable for living, dining and sleeping in. ~ Ben

Where can I get one of them in the USA

I'd start with the Oztent US website, Rick. They have a retailer locator you can use to find your closest dealer. Check it out here www.oztent.com/store-locator. ~ Ben

What major difference rx5 and rv5? Only fabrics? My concern is more stronger frames, fabric and waterproof.
@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The frames are the same, Luke, they are essentially the same tent. The fabrics are a little bit different in that the RV5 is a polyester cotton canvas, whereas the RX5 is what Oztent call a Modcon canvas, which is actually a heavy duty polyester. You could get bogged down in which one is better and never end up with a difinitive answer, but they are both top quality fabrics. The main consideration is that the RX tent is designed only to be used with the accessories that come with the kit and you can create an enclosed second room with this. You can't use other Oztent RV accessories with the RX range. If you want more versatility, then the RV range is compatible with a host of walls, awnings and connectors that allow setup in many different formats but you can't completely enclose the front awning as a separate room. I hope that makes sense, and was helpful. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
You can with an awning connector, Oz Famliy Roadtrippers, this would create a long awning between the two sleeping quarters. But you won't be able to use the panel system and floor together with the awning connector and the individual RV side panels are a different cut. They are primarily designed to be used as a stand alone item. ~ Ben

can't operate storm shield from inside? Fail....
@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I assume you are talking about the rear window, JuzzyQld? This can be guyed out with gussets should you need the ventilation during heavy rain, it's also protected under the flysheet so you can usually set it up appropriately prior to settling in for the night. The skylight and side windows can be adjusted internally, I can see your point though, it can be handy to be able to adjust any storm flap from the inside. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
You can with the use of an awning connector, John. However, given the panel system and the awning connector use the same zipper, you won't be able to use the front panel system and floor in doing this. ~ Ben

Have an RV 1 with side panels etc. etc. By way of interest I did a bit of searching on this new bit of kit. Very nice bit of kit. What I found was a bit shocking. Had a look at snowy's site. Price for the full Monty is $2,199.00 Aus Dollars. At today's rate it's £1,158 British Pounds. However I searched for a supplier in the UK. For the same complete system. Came back with a price tag of £2,199.00 British Pounds. At today's rate that's $4,173.00 Aus Dollars. Absolutely completely outrageous and indicative of Rip Off Britain. Even with 20% VAT. How in god's name is that price justified? Shipping? Not a chance, suppliers ship in bulk. A 20 ft container full for £3,000 is the going rate. So, with that in mind. Dear Snowy's. What would it cost to ship this from Aus to the UK? p.s. The UK site I looked at is Oztent Uk. Making matters even worse.
