He did steal 580 bases and 1700 hits! And took away countless base hits and doubles! Legend! I saw him play Live! He was that good!

Smith didn't have a big-time arm but he was so quick with his hands and his release that it didn't matter.

He also realized that you could give the 1st baseman a room service hop on a throw instead of all the way on the fly every time allowing for a much quicker release than most had from the hole.
