The intro was Gothic like that because the song is about Aleister Crowley who was the godfather of what we think of as the modern occult. He dabbled in black magik and dark rituals. He was labeled the most wicked man alive. You can see and hear about him throughout rock and roll music. He is one of the famous people on the cover of the Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

The only drug found in Randy's blood after his passing was tobacco. He was straight as an arrow. He had informed Ozzie of his intentions to pursue a classical music education and was looking forward to his enrollment at UCLA. Randy's mother owned and operated a music store and exposed Randy to classical music at a very early age.

Randy was such a badass on guitar that Jackson made 4 prototype guitars just for him. Dozens of other famous guitarists play or played on "Jackson Rhoads" type guitars over the years, mostly metal guitarists. Several have even made their own modifications to the JR design. RIP.

Legendary keyboardist Don Airey wrote the intro for Mr Crowley. He was in Ozzy's band for years. He was also in Rainbow and is currently in Deep Purple. He's also a legendary studio session musician as well. He has named Randy Rhoads as the greatest guitar player that he's ever been associated with.

That guitar is played by the late, great Randy Rhoads. Randy died in a plane crash in 1982 while Ozzy was on tour. The plane was buzzing the parked our bus while Ozzy was asleep in it. Eventually, the plane flew too low and clipped its wing on the tour bus, causing it to cartwheel into a nearby house and crash.

This was recorded in my home town Rochester NY at a local UHF TV Station on a show called "After Hours". Ozzy was in town to perform with his new band. Good times!

This is my favorite song of all time. I was 3 years old, and I saw a live version of this on MTV Headbanger's Ball. I got a guitar 3 months later for my 4th birthday. 10 years later I turned professional, and I'm still doing it to this day. Great tune.

This is an all-star cast in this lineup. Ozzy on vocals, Rudy Sarzo (red licorice) on bass also played with Quiet Riot and Whitesnake, Tommy Aldridge on drums also played with Black Oak Arkansas and Whitesnake, and of course, Randy Rhoads (black licorice) on guitar who also played in Quiet Riot. All of these guys are legends of their instruments.

Just a GREAT SONG!! Went and seen Ozzy at his Blizzard of Oz concert in 1977-78 in Fresno, California at The Selland Arena!! It was and still is a concert to remember. We were all watching when all of a sudden this huge Throne come rising from the center of the stage with Ozzy sitting on it shirtless. He hopped off and begun running from one end of the stage to the other. It was a wild ride for the entire concert. Yep, those were the Wild and Crazy Daze fo-sho!!!

A favorite video! Seeing Randy playing and seeing his classical technique of playing. He fingers the frets just like a classical guitarist. Always fun to watch Rudy on bass. It feels like he's played in almost every band. And watching Ozzy at the end watching Randy and drummer is so fun. They gave there all for this TV show.

DIARY OF A MADMAN is OZZY'S best song and it's off of the album DIARY OF A MADMAN...The guitar, the lyrics, the vocals, the choir...it's his masterpiece. Randy really shows off how talented of a guitar player he is in this song.

Randy's mother had a music school and taught him folk and classical guitar from the age of 7. Randy then asked his mother for some rock guitar lessons. She enrolled him. About a year later she got a call from his teacher. He told her "I can't teach Randy any more" She asks "Why"? He responds "He's learned everything I know"!

Randy Rhoads guitar solos in this song give me goosebumps. He was unique in a crowd of Eddie Van Halen clones. He rarely tapped the neck, didn't use the whammy bar much, had classical guitar training and found a totally unique style of playing that blew my mind when I first heard back then, and still blows me away today 40 years after his senseless death in a horrific plane crash.

The tour where Ozzy sang Mr. Crowley included a live hanging of a little person dressed in a brown Monk's robe. He was lifted during the intro kicking his little legs until he was dead. Then Ozzy kicked in with the lyrics.

"I don't know" from the same performance is amazing & Randy Rhoads the guitarists has a big thick gold Gibson & rips the same as the polka-dotted flying -V. Randy was only on the first two solo Ozzy albums was unbelievable. On tour he looked up classical guitar teachers in the cities they were playing & would book lessons. R.I.P. he died to Young in a surreal plane/tour bus accident Randy probably would have remained in the rock world only a short time longer, if not for the accident , which you should read about. Randy, even in this song, sounds like a mix of metal and classical stuff. He took class I think at G.I.T. in California. This is Ozzy's first outside Black Sabbath, and Randy's first of two albums with Ozzy. Lots to name but for another great one with Randy writing I'd say "Diary of a Madman". It's wild timing and evilly classical haha... great lyrics, voice everything really ♫♪♫

The BEST Ozzy song...ever! I especially love the ending of the video where the camera just shows Ozzy looking between Randy Rhoads and Tommy Aldridge with a look on his face like " Wow, these guys are freeking great!"

That was performed in a small TV studio filmed just outside of Rochester New York for a kind of cheesy lat night show, while they were on tour in support of the new Blizzard of Ozz album that had just been released. It's one of the most fortuitous things to have happened in the whole Ozzy/Randy Rhoads story as to this day it remains as one of the best examples of Randy's live playing, at least visually. As far as the polka dots, you can also see that on his guitar the fret markers are bow ties. Both of these things are call backs to his days in the original Quiet Riot (which he formed with Kevin Dubrow) and the polka dotted vest and bowties he wore on stage back then. Randy was the best. Truly. Great person. Hilarious. Great teacher. Great player. RIP brother.

Randy truly was a legend. Tens of thousands of kids have grown up rocking and rolling on Jackson's Rhodes-series guitars. They're a staple for metal players who want something radical. Another Ozzy-alumni guitarist, Zakk Wylde, also had a crazy guitar; a cream and black Les Paul with a bullseye pattern.

There's 3 other tracks from the same show. It was shot in Rochester NY for the After Hours TV Show. This was my favorite of the 4, but all were amazing. Check out Crazy Train, I Don't Know, and Suicide Solution. Randy's solos were immaculate in all of them.

You had the pronunciation right, the first time, it's Crowley, like "oww, I hurt myself", others have told you who Aleister Crowley was. He also influenced Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin a great deal. Page practically worshipped him according to all the stories & Page had an occult bookstore called Equinox in England that was devoted to Crowley & others. Ozzy had his musical moments over the years after the very short Randy Rhoades era, but he would never again equal his post-Sabbath era with the 2 amazing albums he did with Randy: "Blizzard Of Oz", and "Diary Of A Madman". Quite possibly the 2 finest Metal Albums of all time.

Randy Rhoads is playing a custom Sandoval Flying V guitar. The polka dots were a trademark of his, as he used to wear a polka dot bow tie when he played with Quiet Riot in the late 70's. The fret board has little bow ties as well. He is my GOAT. RIP Randy. Much love!

Ozzy and Randy were best of friends. Zakk Wylde lead guitarist going back to no rest for the wicked in the mid 80's was a student of Randy's. I mention this to say the student sings in his own band Black Label Society, and a cover band for Black Sabaath called Zakk Sabaath. Now ask what would his teacher have done? Terms like virtuoso, like savant, yes they all apply and more to Randy. After his passing Ozzy again was faced with pain. That he survives to make music into his 70s is shocking. But we are left with the what ifs. What would Randy have done to music??

This was filmed in a television studio in March 1981 in Rochester, New York. There was no audience, it was filmed for a tv show called “After Hours” that was shown late on Friday nights and had different artists performing live.

You really should've reacted to the Live performance of "Mr Crowley" from the album dedicated to Randy Rhoads, titled (Tribute)... That whole album is great!! In particular the performance of "Mr Crowley" and in my opinion it's way better than the studio version. And it's because of Randy Rhoads.

I think the dude in red is Rudy Sarzo, who is considered to be one of the greatest bass guitarists ever. I saw him perform with Blue Oyster Cult about ten years ago. He also played with Quiet Riot and Dio.
