Actually, you're both right.According to Sharon she had a big fight with Ozzy, went to Randy's room to vent. Too much booze, one thing led to another...only happened once, they both regretted it, and kept it a secret for years. if one looks at Ozzy's live performances, the time with Randy Rhoads is probably the most joyful and exciting, the guy loved him almost like a son (even today, every time he talks about Randy he is moved to tears) His career continued and he was always surrounded by great musicians, but I don't think his joy on stage with Randy was ever seen again.
@FlowStateNewOrleans
@FlowStateNewOrleans Ай бұрын
I would agree that this period is the most joyous we ever really see Ozzy as a performer. I know we kind of put Randy in amber as Ozzy has aged, but the difference in ages between the two of them is nearly identical to me and my younger brother. I'd have never thought "son" there. It's interesting how we perceive both time and age.

Ozzy's singing voice cuts through everything, and is haunting. Perfectly suited to Black Sabbath, who in late 60's/early 70's invented metal with a doom-laden, occult aesthetic. Check out Sabbath's "War Pigs" for a good intro to that early phase.

Ozzy has always had great guitarists. Randy Rhoads is considered by many to be one of the all time greats, despite losing him in a plane crash at only 25 years old. Black Sabbath formed in 1968. This is Ozzy's solo band, formed after Sabbath fired him in 1979.

Yes, Randy was also so exceptional in his passionate attitude of always wanting to learn, share, teach… He wasn't defensive like a lot of the West Coast guitar players who were so worried about their competitors. Eddie Van Halen would not even speak to him. So Rhoads was a really decent human being and I think that would have been part of his interesting musical journey were it not for the idiotic plane stunt crash.

Ah, the joys of videotape... it's too bad the sound is wonky but the fact that this managed to survive at all is a minor miracle. That technique you are talking about Randy doing is playing lead and rhythm simultaneously - something you can hear in many bands of that era who only have one guitarist. They played several songs in this performance and they are all absolute fire - sadly, there's actually very little footage of Randy playing live so this is some of the best ever recorded.

The very first live act I saw as a teenager was Ozzy Ozbourne, back in the 1980s. I was absolutely star struck while waiting for him to come on stage and had no idea what to expect from this God level figure. After a brief pause, he just sauntered onto the stage with a grin and said "Hi!" It was so down to earth and captivating. He then proceeded to blow us away with the music. His personality is so genuine and likeable and not at all encumbered with the ego that many less talented singers carry around. A really decent bloke with an amazing voice.

I love the way Randy manhandles his Les Paul, shaking the living shyt out of the neck and digging in with his pick. It was clearly his favorite guitar because he knew he could throw it around like that and it would do exactly what he wanted it to do. 22 years old and chops like that....he was a MFer for sure; my favorite player of all time (followed by a nose by Mathias Jabs). (2:38) You mentioned you "love the thrill of him pointing at the guitar" yes absolutely. For many of us back then this was the very first time hearing Randy and I Don't Know being the first song on Blizzard it got most musicians attention. Ozzy knew Randy was going to rewrite/reimagine guitar work from that point on. It is fantastic seeing a younger person, especially a female, enjoying Ozzy's and Randy's music with that same excitement we had 40+ years ago. While I understand you are more focused on the vocals there was always so much going on in their music whether it was the studio or touring lineups. Having seen Ozzy a few times I can assure you as good as he sounds here, by the end of the evening he just couldn't hang on to that "nasally chest" type of delivery. IMO - Blizzard and Diary albums are masterpieces and I am lucky enough to have been 16 /17 years old at the time. 👍

The songs, "Diary of a Madman" and "You Can't Kill Rock n Roll", are great examples of composition and range. There is a lot of great live footage of Salt Lake City 1984, with Jake E. Lee on guitar. One of Ozzy's greatest strengths has always been having a good eye for what is happening in the world of rock music and being able to adapt to it to stay not only relevant but a perpetual leader. There are tons of great songs from all of Ozzy's eras.

It’s so cool to have you describe what we have taken for granted over the decades, that Ozzy was an amazing and naturally gifted singer!

I love Ozzy and was fortunate enough to have seen him tour with Randy Rhoads it’s not that Ozzy has an incredible voice it’s that there’s no one else that sounds like him he’s one of kind ..

Growing up in Knoxville I was fortunate to see Randy’s last concert the night before he was tragically killed. The stage was a mock up of a medieval castle with Randy and Rudy starting out in turrets on either side of the stage. I was totally captivated by Randy’s guitar work so the only thing I remember about Ozzy was he kept saying “I love you people” over and over. Funny how you never realize you just watched a moment in rock history until it’s too late.

Ozzy left Sabbath in 1979. Randy Rhoads was recruited from the L.A. area band Quiet Riot, and Ozzy formed Blizzard of Ozz, using well-known musicians who'd played in Uriah Heep and Rainbow. Eventually that band had a stable lineup and recorded two albums, this song appearing on the first, a self-titled disc. While on tour for the second album, Randy was lost in a tragic accident flying in a private, small aircraft while on a short break during the tour.

If you want more Ozzy, listen to the Black Sabbath live in Paris performance, 1970. He, and the whole band, are absolutely killing it. The high notes are a bit muted in the surviving recordings, but it's still worth the listen. If you want more Randy Rhoads, listen to Revelation Mother Earth. Good live recordings of that are even more scarce, so I'd recommend the studio recording.

Randy Rhoda’s was a classically trained guitarist, and taught guitar as well. I like ozzy solo (especially the randy Rhoda’s era), but I also like Black Sabbath (especially when they were more bluesy… notably their self titled first album. The whole album is solid… not one bad song on it… and none of it like the Black Sabbath most people expect.

Other vocal coaches reacting to Mr. Crowley spent more time raving about Randy's guitar playing than discussing Ozzy's vocals. Mr. Crowley, from this same 1981 show should be next on your list.

This was rehearsal footage . To hear Ozzy LIVE in an outstanding recording , please find the album “Speak Of The Devil”. Also to hear him in his perfection , listen to Black Sabbath debut album just called Black Sabbath , has women in black in front of windmill on cover. To me , the best debut album by any rock band of all-time !

He's not the most expressive singer, but I think his vocal talent shines through the most when he was with Sabbath. The song Black Sabbath is an unbeatable vocal performance. Plus if you want to start at the beginning, that's the first song from the first album.

You just witnessed a God among men!!! Randy Rhodes was the greatest guitarist to ever live!! In just the short 27years he was here he undoubtedly was the best. Only wish he could have been apart of our lives longer RIP my brother ❤. It was said that Ozzy used ALOT of vocal effects and really wasn’t that great of a vocalist but more of a showman. ✌🏼❤️🎸

I def recommend going to the beginning when he was with Black Sabbath. One of the best and most reacted to songs from them is live in Paris 1970. The song is called War Pigs. The whole show is great! Just be ready cuz Ozzy seems a bit shy and reserved but still sings great. 😉

So the first Black Sabbath album came out in 1970 and this the first solo album September of 1980. Love Sabbath including with Dio. This performance you notice is a intimate one. He was pretty nervous go live at first being unsure of what to expect as a fan base. You can see he is really hugging that mic stand but it didn't take long for him to fill the arenas and light it up making Arena Rock History. Peace 🕊️

First off... I love your reactions.. I always thought it would be cool to see a reaction channel that takes a song... and focuses on it. So listen to the original recording.. then a live version from the year it was released... then maybe (especially in ozzys case) maybe the same song 20 years later... break down the difference between then and now.. the little things he might do to embellish or get him through a hard vocal for him... I think it could be a cool idea and honestly because you really are kind of new to this music... it's a neat way to discover.. Either way I'm always watching. You have this wonderful almost childlike wonder in your eyes when you're absorbing music... it's quite beautiful.

My Ozzy reaction suggestion: "Flying High Again". If you want an Ozzy song that you almost surely have heard before even though you may not realize it, do with "Crazy Train". It is played at so many professional sporting events when there is a break in the action. If you want to go back earlier in his career to when he was with the band Black Sabbath, "Iron Man" would be a good choice.

I'm 42 and started listening to Ozzy in about the 5th grade, it's best to start in his sabbath years. His solo stuff is excellent....check out "no more tears" or "over the mountain" but everything he did with sabbath was extremely good. Check out "wicked world" and of course "paranoid" 🤘

Note Randy Rhoads was a music teacher. And when he joined with Ozzy, Randy taught Ozzy how to sing properly. So when you notice how he is singing in a classical manner, that was how Randy taught him. Ozzy said that he never was trained how to sing properly until Randy showed him.

Hey Bethany how are you?! I can't believe I just discovered your content yesterday. I'm a 80's kid and having saw bands like Queensryche,Iron Maiden and Triumph man I saw Triumph when I was 13 and the story is pure madness of what and who decended on our town Kalamazoo Michigan May 4th,1984! Anyhoo there are 100's of singers in the hair metal days that would blow you away. If I may please challenge you to listen and break down or review ASHES IN THE SKY and or HEAVY CHAINS. Band is LOUDNESS 4 Japanese guys man they were 1 of my favorite. Anyway I am Tim or Dozer as my friends call me. I please look forward to watching you rock out to some loudness. Thank you for taking time to read my comment!
