Re soldering copper pipes . I was surprised that when you were emphasising cleaning the pipe you did not also clean the inside of the fitting. This to me has always been essential to make a good joint. Also when the joint has been soldered and is still hot I wipe the joint with wire wool so there are no solder bubbles or runs on the copper pipe. Just looks better I think. Cheers.

I.m very old school. Never been keen on press fit joints, after working on a industrial job 12 years ago , two snagging teams following 12 teams installing expansion bellows , They found lots of leaks when testing on air , not sure how many more was found once systems was filled with hot water. I'd very much like feed back on percentage of leaks against solder j joints . But I.v seen lots of your videos and found them to be very interesting and informative. Plz keep posting them .

Great guide! 4:08 “Turbulence” I think is the term, which in turn can cause cavitation, when local pressure difference in the water causes micro-implosions, which is quite destructive.

See all day I've been watching European plumbers do something that makes me wonder, why when I was taught how to solder, even small pipes, to go all the way around with the solder to make a sort of ring around the pipe, but after years of doing this I've always thought to myself... "Why!?!" Since I can see the solder flow into the whole fitting from just touching it in one spot like you did. I can see why on pipe that's over 1", but anything smaller seems unnecessary, but I do it that way because it's how we do it here on commercial jobs (I live in Washington state), and the cleaning the pipe after in that manner would get me in trouble (was told this takes too long) so after it cools down a little we just wipe it with Flux then wipe it clean with a rag. Just interesting to see how others do this.

Anything else other then Gas lines I'd flux fittings. With gas you can't flush the line. Most times my preference is press. Touch the back and let it follow the blue the cone of the flame. No deburring of pipes causes turbulence and possibley water hammer. It can also in circumstances cause premature fail. Great as per usual PB 👍🏼.

Always clean pipe and fitting, apply flux to spigot only, as the flux is a zinc chloride base it will clear away any surface oxides and ease the surface tension of the metal. The solder will be drawn into the fitting via capillary action. Allow fitting to cool before wiping to prevent thermal shock also its fuckin hot however I burn myself every day then I use my favorite word, starts with C ends in T and it isn't coconut

Big issue. We are soldering a copper flange to a pipe the issue is best solder since electrical connection and critical as physical. I have 50/50 or a silver solder that seems incorrect to use with a Propane torch. Any suggestions. Ukraine usually makes these for me but due to problems they are out and just drop shipped what had been done and I am finishing a resonant mag loop.

I would always do the easy upright joint first. This means that the horizontal joint will have gained more transfered heat for the welded joint. Also there is no need to be so stingy with the solder, the aim is to make the joint watertight and still look professional.

Copper is sooo expensive. Imagine tendering for a job where someone else is willing to wapp in push fit under the floors. If it ever comes to actually having to use microbore plastic tho, think I'll retrain as a sparky. Said to missus, "coppers gone up, timbers gone up and even butter's gone up".
