I beg to differ.. pilots skill used to be of prime importance in olden days but now i'd say technology is much more important. Anyways, gone are the days where you even need a pilot on board.. UAV are the future..

And all i'm saying is the skill requirement necessary to use modern weapons system is less when you compare to older weapons system since most of the work is done by advanced sensors and computers... Also don't forget that after shooting down F-16(which is a commendable task no doubt), our Mig was also shot down. I believe that on that day if our guy was in a Rafale, he'd have much more chance of escaping than getting shot down.

@@harikrishnanr8632 Our Mig-21s are upgraded to Bison standard. F16 neither are a new technology. First blocks where made in 1970s.Now a days there would be less dog fight since we have advanced beyond visual range missiles.So pilot skill does matter much.

Eventhough Fly - by - wire system & EWS have been integrated the pilot skills really matters and bravery quotient is the same for soldiers still as it was earlier even after AI integrated weapon platforms are largely put into use. Though bombers went into oblivion after missile technology progresed, it can't substitute for fighter planes and so is the case with UAV's too.

Sorry but i disagree... in present day high tech weaponry is much more important.. I'd prefer a normal pilot in a high tech weapons system than a skillful pilot in an outdated weapon system.

Also, let's not forget what happened to our guy that day. He too was shot down. I firmly believe that on that day if our man was in a Rafale, he would've had much better chance of escaping without getting shot down. And that's the whole point i'm trying to make.

Pilots skill played an important role since he/she had to do much more calculations and decision making which in modern fighter planes in done by advanced computers. BTW, Gnats were no 2nd world war planes.. they were introduced in late 50's.. in fact, Sabres were older than Gnats.. I'm not questioning the bravery or our warriors, what i'm saying is that if you bring a sword to a gun fight, your bravery isn't going to be of much help.
