Jessica Raine was great in An Adventure in Space and Time. I'm sure Verity Lambert would have been proud of her and also that Doctor Who is still running now. May she rest in peace.

This movie really shows how Doctor Who could have gone one way or the other and its history really seems delicate. Verity Lambert could have got fired after the second story, the Daleks would never have been on TV, the show couldn't have existed at all or lasted a season.

I love how this film doesn't dwell on things, it acknowledges sexism, but then it moves on to the next topic, it really helps from the pacing and makes this film feel so much shorter than it really is.
@Snagprophet

I think it fucks with the tone, like it doesn't feel like a real conversation, like "oh where's the totally male producer for the show?" then next scene "Ah we are two adults having a serious discussion and we admire each other". It's like they're shocked that a woman is working there and then next minute it may as well be two blokes. It's like that Twice Upon a Time episode where the first Doctor kept saying stereotypically old fashioned things about women when we know he never said that in the show and they're only giving him those lines "because he's old so he must hate women".

@@Snagprophet Apart from the 'made of glass' thing, everything else the First Doctor said was in character. The 'made of glass' thing was imo either an attempt to schmooze with the soldier, or he was starting to catch on that Bill was literally made of glass and wanted to test the waters.

@@Snagprophet The conversations are with two different guys, man. Rex is the only one characterised as a sexist in that first scene. The friendly guy calls Rex out on being rude and smiles when Verity asserts herself. Him trying to act egalitarian towards her in the next scene follows perfectly.

@@carrot708 *_Apart from the 'made of glass' thing, everything else the First Doctor said was in character._* Absolutely not. In one scene _(Twice Upon A Time),_ the First Doctor remarks about the untidiness of Capaldi's TARDIS by saying, _"You can tell Polly isn't around,"_ implying that Polly was a "cleaning lady" during her time as a companion. *_NO SCENE_* in the original series ever remotely reflected this, nor did Hartnell's Doctor ever make any sexist remark about ANY female companion. So no, the First Doctor was written in TUAT to be overtly sexist because that's what NuWho wants young fans to THINK the original series was like. Anyone who has watched the Hartnell era knows he was nothing like how TUAT depicts him. Modern DW doesn't want young fans exploring the original series; in fact, they go to great lengths to avoid promoting it. Like the scene here with Verity, this is just modern DW exaggerating sexism in the 60s and conveying to younger audiences, _"Every man in the 60s was a sexist pig."_ It's not only historically false, but is a severe injustice to Hartnell. I have met "NuWho" fans in comment sections who literally refuse to watch the original 26 seasons because modern shit like this has taught them "it was overtly sexist." Nothing more than NuWho skewing the facts so they can then pat themselves on the back and say, "See how non-sexist we are?"

_Bella.1640 _ the Doctor grew progressively younger as the series went on, but I think it made sense to start him off old.
