Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab, 4Runner, Engine 2.4L, 2RZ-FE
1998 Toyota Tacoma. Diagnosing and cleaning the MAF sensor.
Check engine light on: P0171 System Too Lean, Long term fuel trim at 35.1%, fuel trim should be below 10%.
When the air fuel ratio feedback is stable after engine warming up, he fuel trim is considerably in error on the RICH side
So I just cleaned the sensor with carb cleaner and brush.
Test drive for 45 miles, Oxygen sensor monitors cleared and no check engine light present.
Common Problems for P0171 Code
-Air intake (hose loose)
-Fuel line pressure
-Injector clogged
-Heated oxygen sensor malfunction
-Mass Air Flow Meter
-Engine coolant temperature sensor

I had a code Po420 before. I put a bottle of B12 Chemtool into the gas tank. After that, I had 2 codes, Po420 and Po171. After replacing the catalytic converter, Po420 gone and Po171 was still there. I followed this video on my Honda 2009 CRV last week. Cleared the code and drove 400 miles. Today I passed the smog test. Very happy.

I was working on 2000 Corolla with P0171 code. MAF sensor PASSED idle test for flow rate per manual, however examining one of the resistors under scope 10X magnification revealed broken wire (so cleaning would not help in this case). I pulled new one (on PYP) from 02(?) Echo. It fit Corolla setup and connector configuration (despite different connector angle) and fixed the problem!

Awesome "free" fix! I fixed my 4Runner the exact same way except I didn't clear the codes afterward. I just started it up and watched the STFT go really negative (-30) countering the long term of +30...after a short test drive the fuel trims were back to normal, and after a a couple short trips, the check engine light turned itself off so there was no need to complete the monitors over again. Cool channel man, keep it up. Merry Christmas!

There is a coating on them and after washing the dirt off you allow new dirt particles to sandblast the rest of the coating away causing failure of the mass airflow sensor to be sooner this could be done if you plan on replaceing it anyway ..but if you dont you will half to clean it more and more often untill it fails completely . i.e engine wont start.

Wow glad I found your channel. I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that has been occasionally showing this code. It only happens when the truck is a high speed for awhile. 85mph in Texas on our toll roads. The other issue is the truck falls on its face at more than 3/4 peddle of throttle and starts cutting out at 90mph. My truck used to run 105 flat out but there is definatly something wrong and would really like your opinion if you dont mind. Thanks for your time. Subscribed!

Always a great idea to do this when having any trouble with power, idle, throttle response. Dirty MAFs won't code, only broken ones will. so your often left scratching your head. Must uses sensor cleaner, not brake and part cleaner. 10 bucks will often fix your problem.
@FixItAngel
@FixItAngel 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Since 2002 I have been using brake and carb cleaner. I'm still waiting on friends and family to complain on a bad MAF sensor because of a wrong cleaner I used on their car. I have done this on many different makes/models. Is brake/parts cleaner really that bad? My 2004 Camry, I cleaned the MAF sensor every year using brake or carb cleaner, it has 200K miles on it. Same with my 2002 Sienna, with 180K miles. I honestly never replaced the original Genuine Toyota MAF sensors. I guess you can say I'm lucky? I proved it with this video. Did you have a bad experience when you used a wrong cleaner?
@jr260551
@jr260551 7 жыл бұрын
Fix It Angel brake and part cleaner is not safe for plastic and rubber (if you've ever gotten it on a rubber caliper boot you'll know this) also it does leave a thin white film behind which can cause increased resistance within the maf resistors. Brake and part cleaner will probably work, but it's not the best cleaner to use. For $10, I would rather use the sensoclean that way you have no worries about damaging a $200 part.

this is so great. I loves the shirt Vegas sky timelapses. artistic license great. although you can probably chop down your driving selfie bits. don't eliminate them just more jumpcuts to show the lapses. and I swear that was flamingo going west into the sun towards Las Vegas Blvd. so how much were the strut labor? haha. I'm debating mine. 95% of the time they were ok. about three times out of six months driving it was a really big dip or a sharp turn where it bottomed out in the front and another time I don't remember what it was, not a speed bump more like another dip. small dips are fine however. potholes fine, if the car probably will be sold in 5 years, should the struts be changed? the airdam diverter under the car does catch sometimes going up or down driveways. it's that plastic half round under car spoiler. a 98 es300

I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute 3.0 with 162000 miles. It runs great. The problem I'm having is that I get different miles per gallon for every tank full. On one tank full I will get 19 MPG, then the next I will get 15 MPG, then 13 MPG, Then 10 MPG, then 15 MPG, Then 19 MPG, and so on. Originally I used to get 20 miles per gallon. I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires/coils, and every filter I can think of. I’m the type of driver that does not have a heavy foot. What is weird about this issue is that the gas mileage fluctuates so much. Could this sensor be the problem?

Use alcohol, not carb or brake cleaner as alcohol evaporates and carb and brake cleaner leaves residue. Just FYI for anyone watching.
