Just to clarify, my comment isn't to rag on the video. I only came to see what the part was and how much work was involved. I just don't see hours of labor here. 1 hour maybe. The price I paid wasn't gmc prices but a trusted mom & pop shop. Anyway, gratitude for your time and energy aka sharing your knowledge.

A couple of notes after trying this. If you lean way up over the engine you can just barely see where the valve slides in. This is helpful when reinstalling. Also, I found it easier to take the sensor out before disconnecting the wire harness. It was also easier to install the wire harness before reseating the valve so I could ensure the clip was re-locked. If you are a normal human getting something electric down in there will be unlikely. I used two extensions with a bendy bit in the middle. I was able to slide the second extension through a hole in a metal piece right at the base of the hood (you can see this at 0:30 right next to his finger). This help secure the ratchet.

Am I missing something here? YES! Not all 🦄s, shiny 🌟s and 🌈s. I had to use original old screw as new screw was impossible to screw in 🤬. Second, I needed needlenose pliers to pull out the red tab on the electrical connection 😤. Also failed to mention here. I had to practice on a same type of electrical connector on the same side of the engine where the EVAP part is. Hose with white clip is doable. You're welcome 😁🤗

Luckily, you can always replace the part, then drive it to an Autozone or similar store and use their free scanner to reset your check engine light for free.😁 Or you can order a cheap Bluetooth scanner to keep in your car, super helpful - amzn.to/3dcZtu3 @boyshark2000

@@Mechani_Cole And your views appreciate what you do! Your video and that of another I was able to replace the other valve without removing anything else. The only thing I had to do different was remove the wire plug last, after I had removed the purge valve so I could get a better look at how the wire plug was locked in. Because the purge valve was loose and only connected to the wire plug, I was able to clearly see the locking clip and understood what you meant. So thanks again. I hate removing stuff when it isn't necessary. Normally, I would've removed everything that's in the way. But, thanks to you and another guy's video, I WA able to do everything by feel! Thank you! You saved me a lot of money by helping me do it myself. 💕🤓

I've recently started having problems starting my 2015 SRX after fueling...and only after fueling. Seems to idle fine with no loss of power. I don't have a code reader, but my check engine light has lit up. Would replacing this part help solve this issue?
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole Жыл бұрын
Hi John, you should never replace any part before checking what the check engine light is on for. Everyone has free access to a code reader at any aute parts store. Simply ask some one working there for the scanner and they will ask for your ID in exchange. Then you can scan it and see what's actually wrong with it to give it the correct part. If you have the codes listed in this video then this may be your fix. Always check first though, some one can help you if you don't know how😁

@@Mechani_Cole Hmmm . . . So basically no diagnostics involved. Just changing parts until you get it right. That could get expensive if you don't get lucky right off the bat which fortunately for the customer you did. I was expecting something more from one who presents themselves a mechanic. Oh well.
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 2 жыл бұрын
@T.E. my bad, I thought this comment was on the Audi purge valve video. For this Cadillac and other GMs this is a super common problem. The scanner literally tells you what to replace. When this part goes bad the customer couldn't use her auto start. There was no guessing or throwing parts at this vehicle. It's a common failure point and an easy fix on these cars🤷🏼‍♂️
@t.e.1189
@t.e.1189 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mechani_Cole Don't mean to beat this into the ground, but I have a nice scanner and know from years of experience that scanners do NOT tell you what part to replace. I wasn't born yesterday. They merely point you in the direction of what is not working properly. There can be multiple reasons why something might not be working properly. like poor electrical connections, plugged hoses, vacuum leak in the hose, a related part in the system, etc. You still need to verify that the part itself is bad. I watched a different video and they showed 2 methods on how to verify the purge valve was not working. And then explained how to verify that the problem was indeed fixed after changing the part. Very professional video. I've only watched this one video of yours, so I don't know if you are just a parts changer or not, but if so you might want to learn and share with others the more important steps of properly diagnosing a problem. A scanner is a wonderful tool to help you , but it will not make any decisions for you. You as the mechanic must still be able to take in the information the scanner tells you and then with FURTHER investigation, experience and common sense make a judgement call. Then at that point you must verify that the part is indeed bad. Maybe an electrical connector just needs to be cleaned up and it doesn't need to be replaced. Far to my people change parts until they get it right and it usually ends up costing way to much that route. That's not good mechanics. Like I said only watched the one video and don't really know you. So just giving my 2 cents based on this one time. Not trying to be mean, just helpful as I have in turn been helped by many KZfaqr like yourself in the past. I appreciate what all you guys do out there. I love KZfaq for the help people offer.

I got it. Now, I'm trying to plug the valve back in. Not enough leverage in order to do so.....'cause it just ain't goin' in. Lol. Thank you for the video.

I tried forever to get that red clip to push up so I could remove the plug, but it would not release. Not to mention there is not enough room to work in that small of a space. I wasted my time.

Did you try pushing forward first so it releases the tension? Also, picks can be very helpful in removing these clips in tight spaces.

It's a lot more work, but you could remove the throttle body first. Then, there is more room to work on.

can you show how to reset the code?
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 2 жыл бұрын
I don't currently have this vehicle anymore, but its the same on most cars. 1. Plug in your obdll scanner 2. Turn your car to ON position 3. Scan codes 4. Click 'Erase codes' That should be it. For this job I used this scanner that hooks up to my cellphone for only $20. Best $20 I spent! amzn.to/3kfhAjH

Would you mind giving a little more detail on removing the white clip? Do you squeeze it? Thank you very very much for this video.

Super easy job! If you don't have a scanner to reset the code you can always borrow one from the local auto parts store after🤙🏼 Oh, and grab a small step stool, its helpful not being on your tip toes😁

...total fail so far. Received part from the below link....came in damaged box raw, not inside plastic. Part was NOT Bosch,but, AC Delco. Could not tell if this was a bad used part that someone "returned". Incredibly difficult repair. Barely could fit one arm into cramped space and had to use screwdrivers to pry apart both connections, as recommended techniques did not work...both hose and electric were firmly stuck. Reinstalling "new" valve into place was a nightmare....had to find hole for the center "penis" first by FEEL.....push valve into that hole and turn valve clockwise until you feel the bolt enter its hole on the right. Although bolt did tighten firmly, valve feels a little wobbly in its socket....I expected it to be SOLID after tightened down. Did 3 "drive cycles" and cheap Harbor Freight Centex scanner could not erase the lone 4096 code ! Car seems to run fine, but, now I am at square one after hours of struggling frustration. Find a shop that will do the repair for around $ 200 and be done with it !!!

Sounds like you got a returned part, definitely reach out to the seller. From the sounds of it, I'd leave the mechanic work to some one who is slightly more competent in that department. This job shouldn't take more than 20-30 mins.

Ahhh....no. It turns out I was "competent" enough to have fixed this after all !! The car now has no check engine light after driving for 3 days and 7 or 8 " drive cycles". On other videos this drive cycle necessity was explained, along with things like " permanent codes" that can not be read from the cheap scan tool I had. I had been under the impression from your video that as soon as the new part would be installed, the " check engine " light would go off by itself...or, my scanner would erase the trouble code and that light would stay off, unless the problem reappeared. Apparently, my car would not let my cheap scan tool erase the PO496 code because the cars computer had not finished verifying all was OK yet.
