Basically, the infinite regress is where, let's say, you are a soldier in the field awaiting orders to shoot. So, you aks your superior, and your superior asks his superior, and that superior asks his superior and if this goes on for infinity, you will never be able to shoot. Now, apply this to the creator, the fact that we are here is proof enough that there was a beginning. if we keep asking who created God, and then the other God, the other God..... we would never be present, as its an infinite regress. In the chain there must be a start, who gave rise to all what you see.
