This shows that midi is an electronic form of the old organ books, here the proces is reversed, use midi files to punch the books. This certainly saves an immense amount of time, using a plotter instead of having to punch the books by hand.

Nowadays barrel organ is electronically imitated by demo of electronic keyboard to demonstrate the learners to play melody on keyboard (not only electronic keyboard but also organ and piano). Even some quartz clocks too electronically imitates the tunes played by barrel organ to mark the hours. Both electronic keyboard and quartz musical clocks contains electronically recorded and programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker.

Is this wonderful tune available as a 31 tone paper roll for the Raffin gamma ? This song is urgently needed as i get my organ tomorrow and need a modern music bibliotheque in the future. I must admit that I like the modern pecussive style of Patricks musicsheets a lot
@SamHallas19493 жыл бұрын
Fascinating. However I should point out that it's a street organ. Barrel organs, oddly enough, have a barrel with pins to play the notes.
@andrewbarrett1537 Жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately somehow, probably due to it being found in old dictionaries copied onto some websites, the term “barrel organ” has persisted as a catch-all for all outdoor mechanical organs, even though it only truly properly refers to those organs (indoor and outdoor) which play from a pinned cylinder. The correct terms are street organ, band/fairground organ, or dance organ, depending upon the type of use and tonal scheme of the instrument. Some indoor cylinder instruments are known as “flute clocks”; chamber” barrel organs, “salon” barrel organs, or “orchestrions” depending upon their disposition and construction.

what software is that you use please?
@andrewbarrett1537 Жыл бұрын
Different arrangers use different software. I don’t know what he is using in the video, but at least two programs are available especially for arranging music for automatic organs. One was developed by Melvyn Wright in around 1988(!) and is available from him on his website here. This software can only be used for instruments up to 64 keys/keyless: www.melright.com/busker/editor.htm Another is called “Noteur” has been developed by Piet Paarkedam in Netherlands, and is available here, together with a “partner” program called “MIDIBoek” which helps create print templates to attach over blank cardboard or paper for manually punching out cardboard books or paper rolls: draaiorgelweb.nl/software/ Finally, organ grinder Wallace Venable has a list of resources for organ arrangers on his website here: www.wallace-venable.name/mechanical-music/Resources-4-Noteurs.html

Unlike magnetic tape, cardboard book and paper roll music does not tend to stretch, and since it's not magnetic, there's nothing to demagnetize 😃

What make and model organ is this?
@andrewbarrett1537Ай бұрын
It's made by Odin organs in France, but I don't know the model name or number. It has 42 notes, is fully chromatic, and obviously is a cardboard book street organ with what look and sound like all flute-type pipes (no strings, and no reeds). There are both stopped and open flutes, ans also a small rank of brass piccolos (flauto traverso) in the lower center.

I am pretty sure these arrangements are from scratch and not adapted from other people's MIDIs. The latter usually gets poor results anyway IMO.
