The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) of all video arcade games! A well detailed analysis of a great classic and the one that spawn the most sequels of all platforms. Let's face it! Pac-Man forever changed the landscape of arcade games and also was reportedly the first arcade game in full color. This classic will go on forever based on its appeal of nostalgia and its endearing quality.

This, Ms., Jr., Mania, and Pac-Man Arrangement are still among the arcade games I like to replay and look back to the most. Regardless of ranking, all three are important to video game history, let alone Namco’s, and they’re the reasons I got into Pac-Man so much with other stuff like World. I’d even argue Pac-Man is actually more influential than others like Mario and Sonic, yet most people hardly ever talk about him and his franchise outside of the original, which is a shame because even Pac-Man pioneered platformer with Pac-Land. There’s some bad games sure, but there’s plenty of good too. I wish more people in general would stop overlooking and underestimating him…

I was thinking this review would be filler since it feels impossible to say tons of things about the original Pac-Man, but I gotta say you impressed me and actually made me learn something about the game's design and patterns. GG, epic gamer.

My start with the franchise was on a plug and play, but I don't remember which one. I might have it around but I think all my plug and plays have broken apart from age. It's nice that you analyzed a myriad of key details cause gosh, I used to suck at Pac Man as a kid, but now I think this video will help me understand how to play this game better if I ever decide to replay Namco Museum on the GameCube, which is the port I'll cherish the most. I am more hyped for the Ms. Pac Man review because that was the game that I played (though sucked at) the most.

Believe it or not, Pac-Man 256, which is playable on the PS4, is actually very good. You should give it its own review. It's worth it.

I like how this guy can take a simple game of pacman into a video essay about the 1980 game. This guy is so smart. I bet this guy graduated college with flying colors 😊😊😊

You referred to both the red ghost and the orange ghost as Clyde, but only the orange ghost is Clyde. The red ghost is Blinky.

yeah i know. blame pac man world 2, i grew up with that game and they swapped them there. i still get the names mixed up sometimes lol

@@ahbeef Also, in the cartoon Clyde is the aggressive, meathead one while Blinky is the buffoon (and most timid one of the ghosts). There were five ghosts in the cartoon... Inky, Pinky, Blinky, Clyde, and Sue. Sue was a total bitch. There was also a "junior" ghost monster (the nephew of one or more or all of the rest) who would make an occasional (more like a rare) appearance and whose name was Dinky. There was even a Pac Man cereal that came out (and which I tried) which was total junk with no nutritional value whatsoever.

yeah, the cartoon was pretty popular here in america, so it ended up influencing a lot of the american developed pac-man games, like western conversions of pac-land and pac-mania, or the pac-man world games. no such excuse for pac-man arrangement though, that was developed in house at namco over in japan and they still got the names wrong lol

@@ahbeef OIKAKE (AKABEI), MACHIBUSE (PINKY), KIMAGURE (AOSUKE), AND OTOBOKE (GUZUTA) are the original Japanese characters and corresponding nicknames which corresponding to SHADOW (BLINKY), SPEEDY (PINKY), BASHFUL (INKY), AND POKEY (CLYDE), respectively. I cannot imagine any westerner (especially an American) memorising the original Japanese names and being able to recite them. That would be like a camel going through the eye of the proverbial needle... 🐪🪡😂
