After the overwhelmingly positive response to my personal update video 9 months ago, I took some time to continue with my mental health recovery and waited until I was ready before I got into making a series like this, but the time has come.
The pandemic has been a tough time for many people, so I know a lot of you may be struggling with your own life challenges. With that in mind, I’ll try my best to share what’s worked for me to get to a better place in dealing with my own challenges.
In today’s first video of the mental health series, I took on PACE.
The question of how long it takes to feel better can be on many people’s minds, so I did my best to share my views on this. I hope some of you find this helpful!

Good on you Benny. We’re not called ‘the fighting Irish’ for nothing😊 You sound like you’re heading in a good direction now! I’m still using your Language Hacking books in Italian and Spanish which are both excellent. Don’t know how you did it all though! Take it easy this time and work at your own pace. And good luck with your recovery. 🙏☘️

Benny, I’ve known you for many years now, but lemme tell you something about how I came across your videos. Back in 2012 I was going through a rough time in my life in which I was about to change careers. I was majoring in translation and interpreting and I just wanted to quit because I failed a class. In that same year, one friend of mine told me about free online resources (pirate websites) to keep studying and not to give up, so I started downloading language learning materials from pirate websites (yes, I’m not proud of it tho lol) and I saw one file that said “Fluent in 3 months”. I immediately asked myself ‘ok, where’s the catch?’ before opening it. So I watched a video you made in my hometown, in Lima, Peru. It was one amazing view and you were near the cliff and of course I could recognize that part of the city! So I kept watching those videos (which I no longer have because my external hard drive went kaput) and I still remember the Jack Sparrow talking technique. It was not only hilarious and inventive, but inspiring in a way. The point is that, after that day, because of you, I didn’t quit languages and kept on studying. Now I’m 29 and I can say that I’ve met so many wonderful people and had so many unforgettable experiences because I didn’t change careers. And I feel like I had lived those experiences twice or three times in different languages! ☺️ So brother, keep your head up and know that you are one of the most respected and influential polyglots in the YT community! Thank you for being such a big inspiration and for not giving up!

Good to have you back on the channel, Benny. And thank you for this video, as it'll surely help many, who may have been through similar situation as yourself, with boosting their morale and also with giving them some really good ideas about how to improve themselves or find a suitable way to get better, and to not give up and to try and get the most out life, because, after all, life is a beautiful gift.

Thank you for sharing, Benny. I'm a big fan of your work and find it comforting to be able to relate to you on these issues. Recovering from a mental illness does take time as you say, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm glad you've reached this point in your recovery. Keep going because your life is very meaningful and adds a lot of value to ours. Best wishes from London 🤗

Man, that really hit home, I'm glad to see you're doing better! I'm going through a rough period myself now, for which in 2020 the pandemic was the final tipping point after a series of doubts and struggles. It's indeed very important to embrace the process and realise not everything is solved within a day. Thanks for the reminder!

Keep up the good work, making your own health a priority. Life is always a challenge, but it is worth it. I'm over 8 years beyond what I thought was an insurmountable experience, but here I am...still here. Some days I stand a little bit straighter than others, and others not so much; but you've definitely got the right idea.

I don't want to plant the seed in anyone's mind that they will have a series of major depressions but many who have gone through them are often weakened by the experience and vulnerable to relapse. I think this is especially true for those who do not actually take the time to heal and rest from the first major depressive episode. You've done a really good job of explaining the need to rest and heal. Adding to that is building a personal toolkit for well-being and learning to see the signs when you start sliding back. Wishing you all the best and see you in the next video. xx

Thank you for talking openly about this, we admire your strength and I will work on myself to be as strong and brave as you are (currently dealing with personal issues as well). You're very inspiring Benny! P.S, years ago I read your book Fluent in 3 Months because I wanted to learn Spanish. Today, I speak Spanish AND Japanese big credit to your work. Thank you Benny and sending love to your side!

This is so good!! I'm so glad you took the time to share. I've still been going through this process myself, a little over 10 months since my wife left. There have definitely been good days, but my life has been marked by a lot of depression since then, and I really never experienced real depression before, as I discovered having melancholy moods is not the same as true depression. I'm really happy you have made such positive progress. It is really encouraging. Thank you Benny for sharing!

Since 2020 I have had a lot of stress with a romantic relationship, some friends, my job and of course the virus. At the moment, it doesn't feel like I am going to bounce back, but it seems your new videos could help me. Glad to hear you're doing better. I'll never forget the time we met in Islington back in 2013. Such a wonderful memory. Stay strong Benny. 💪

I just wanted to thank-you for sharing your journey. The work of turning inward & committing to our own balance health is a process, and it's typical for it to ebb and flow - there are natural seasons to it, and honoring those rhythms is an essential part of finding balance, ease, and peace. All the best to you.

Benny, Good to see you are back on KZfaq. I brought your book Fluent in 3 Months years ago when you were on the road doing promotion of your book. I had just started to re-learn my old and rusty French language. Your book was a good influence on my journey as a language learner. You influenced me to look at learning Esperanto, in addition to my French. I jointed the local Esperanto Society in my city. I am reasonably proficient in French and Esperanto and I am currently working on getting my Spanish up to fluency. Glad to see you are back on KZfaq.

Speaking as one who has also been through the depths of depression, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. To recover you have to want to do it just for you, no one else matter at that point. I am so glad you on your way to finding yourself again. After my recovery I lost my daughter (3 years ago), I truly had to fight hard not to withdraw into myself again. Will I ever be "normal" again? No probably not, but I am trying to handle this new reality. Take care of yourself, sláinte.

It looks like you didn't consider this series as planned, but I hope that's because you were doing what you needed to do to take care of yourself! I've been learning that energy is something I don't have in the quantities I used to, and taking care of myself often means not doing anywhere near as much as I want to. It's a struggle to figure out what I actually CAN do but learning to prioritize is important. All best wishes to you!
