Haha I did this once in high school. I was one of the worst runners on the team and at one meet I just said “screw it” and went all out on the 800m. Basically ran the first 400m at my 400m speed and left nothing for the second lap. I met the same fate as this poor chap. But I did manage to stretch out the best runner on the home team, who probably didn’t realize who I was or what I was doing, which allowed the best runner on my team to pull ahead and win. My coach told me “That was awesome but don’t ever do that again.”

I used to run the 100, 400, and 1600 meter back in middle school. Coach comes up to me 10 minutes before the 800 and says he needs another runner. Having already run my other events and not trained for the 800, I just decided to just go all out the first lap and see how long I can last. I will never forget that feeling being a full 100 meters ahead of the pack and all the cheers from the stands. Unfortunately, 200 meters into the 2nd lap, and I was already 8th place and I eventually finished 3rd to last. Fun times.

I wonder if anyone practices that style of racing??? Run flat out as long as you can and slowly but surely increase the distance you are able to run that pace. @@chatochafa130 In "champiomship races" (ones where winning is more important than time), they'll have pacemakers to ensure the runners stay at a good pace. Without pacemakers, they'll sometimes run slow for 3/4 of the race with the goal of conversing energy to out sprint the others at the end. A pacemaker, pace-setter, or rabbit (colloquial)[1] is a runner who leads a middle- or long distance running event for the first section to ensure a fast time and avoid excessive tactical racing. Pacemakers are frequently employed by race organisers for world record attempts with specific instructions for lap times. Some athletes have become essentially professional pacemakers. A competitor who chooses the tactic of leading in order to win is called a front-runner rather than a pacemaker.

@dbloyd23 жыл бұрын
@@kingqueen6848 When you look back it causes several problems. One is your focus is changed. Your only focus should be on winning. Second, looking back is usually when you are starting to feel you are at your max, you are looking back to see if you can slow down a bit and which most do. Third, you are sending a signal to your competition behind you, as soon as you look forward they automatically push forward to close that gap and surprise you and it tells them your situation. Last, it is a very non-Alpha thing to do. Looking back will make you look weak. Weakest that everyone sees. Nobody is going to let a weak person finish first or cheer for you.

seriously when Rudisha ran the WR in London 2012 his first lap was 49.5. I'm pretty sure also that they always ask pacemakers to run fast (no-one asks pacemakers to run a slow first lap) and it's the runner's job to keep up with them if they want. I hate when the commentators think that the pacemaker has to always be right infront of the lead runner to be effective
@TheFlash32376 жыл бұрын

@liamash9716 жыл бұрын
say they asked for a 1:42-1:43 pace, the pacemaker would've been correct in going through in 49. bear in mind that the racers would then follow in around 50 or perhaps a very high 49 first lap. the finishing times would then come down to their endurance rather than a final sprint, as is the case with all of the fastest times ever

You rarely see what happens to a suicide pace runner at the pro level. This is what it looks like. The anchor is out in the last 100m, he is going nowhere, and the entire field passes. In the world of recreational 5k and 10k, you see it all the time though.

Yes i do but you ll can only see/trace pace making from the beginning of a race. The runner seems to slow down at the end but the pace maker was tired/exhausted. He died out like most 400 meter runners to the end. He never gave up until they all pass him, again the pace maker set/hold/the timing of the race respectable. He did not win, he may have won if he didn t look back. His last 100meters was like their jogging/running at the beginning.
