Co-op first person. 1:1 scale environments, destructible objects. There was a game very similar to this on ps2 called “RAD robot alchemic drive” it was not received very well because the story is bad even for an early Enix game. Like ffx2 is better… but the gameplay… omfg. No other game in history gave you 1:1 control of a 120ft tall killing machine. It’s worth a look if you’re into the giant robot scene, pirate it tho, cuz a hardcopy is going for like $400

But how? The closed the bridge. Just magically inventing another one could be cheesey. Unless the Jaegers were to turn on each other as the world returns to its normal state of fighting itself.

Josh Dill Fortunately, Legendary and the other producers are probably more creative than you are ^_^ I can think of quite a few ideas they could work from, and only one of them involve Kaiju.

I guess you could create another race, perhaps one invading from the stars, forcing the Jaegers to do some Heavy Gear Zero-G combat, which would be really cool. That would be an interesting turn. I do hope they make another movie.

I heard that they might make a prequel to it, or something. I don't know how they would do it though. I hope they make a sequel! Maybe... Atlantic Rim. ;D XD

The first movie was for the populous, the populous doesn't probably want typical robot movie plot and something more commonplace. I do agree the designs would lend itself much better to a gundam style, at least in my opinion, and was somewhat wasted on an almost attack on titan but not really plot with a simple solution.

Chase Unfried I personally prefer more western 'Mech designs, like the ones in BattleTech, but the designs in Pacific Rim were ok. You hit the nail on the head about the plot though, I think it could've been less cliché. music and art was good though.

The problem was that the movie played out too much like chidlhood wish fulfillment, like a child wrote the screenplay after a marathon session of Battletech or Gundam/AD Police/Dirty Pair/etc episodes. None of the characters aside from Raleigh, Mako and the science geeks had any real development so their deaths had zero impact on the viewer or the narrative. I think it's safe to say that there was ample material for two films. The first movie should have been the setup where the mechs are first constructed, showing us a variety of them as they battle the Kaiju on various fronts and building a cast of characters we care about. It could have ended with the first category 4 showing up and starting to tip the balance against Earth, leaving the sequel with a sense of dread and urgency. It would have been a great way to introduce a mentor for Raleigh and Yancy who is killed by the category 4 at the end. I'd like to see someone tackle a Battletech-themed movie with the visuals of Pacific RIm. Watching huge mechs duke it out in arenas and on the field of battle would be awesome.
