The great things about Pacific Rim is that the story doesn't matter. Like, at all. But in case you're curious, giant Kaiju monsters are coming out of a hole in the ocean floor called the breach, so humanity decides to build these giant mech robots to fight them. Generic Action Hero's brother gets killed in action, and he gets really sad. Years later the government decides to stop funding the Jaeger project that builds those giant mechs, but the Kaiju return. The reinstate the Jaeger project and a lot of punching ensues. That's pretty much it.

I'm in the Navy and on deployment right now. We kinda accidentally ran into one of these videos, and since then, we have watched every one. As a matter of fact, we make it a point to sneak "super easy, barely an inconvenience" into everyday conversation, and just laugh at it for hours. Basically, I'm asking you guys to make a "How it all started" about every movie ever made, please. Thanks a million!!!

Honestly, as someone who has such a hard on for Giant Freakin' Robots that I would undergo Total Body Prosthesis for some cool cuban heel jet thrusters and arm mounted null rays a la Starscream, someone who only cried at one film - Terminator 2 (you know why), someone who loved One Must Fall 2097, I almost hate to say this, but; EVEN Giant Freakin' Robots couldn't save this film. Maybe I just can't switch my brain off to that degree?

that part actually makes some sense, considering controlling them remotely would involve potentially too much latency for the micro adjustments they'd need to make for stuff like walking

There's a difference beetween wifi cables and ethernet, now imagine that, but instead of just a few meters away, you're a few kilometers, latency is a big problem in this, so it makes sense

So, for the defenders of piloting inside the robots...obviously technology is far, far more advanced in the movie, which would include any communications. They should've piloted remotely. I doubt they're using a Linksys router.

TheLordmep the alien on the other side of the breach are intelligent and would notice their monsters being killed the instant the leave the breach. They would send a big bomb that won’t affect the breach and destroy the stationary defenses.

@@bluemountain4181 They stated in the movie that they tried that and it didn't work since the breach isn't open 24/7. In the end they needed to grab a Kaiju and jump with it into the breach so it would open.

From watching a bunch of these videos there are three versions of this pitch meeting: 1- the calm one which indicates the early time these videos were taken where he is in his normal form slightly exaggerated 2- the moderate one which indicates Ryan starting to develop some funny facial reactions during his calm meetings 3- the loose one where he finally Reached pitch meeting prime where they all passive aggressively smily and crazy

I think they did in the beginning. Category one kaijus were being beaten up in a matter of seconds before causing any damage, and they soon became a pop culture fad instead of a threat. After that, the categories kept getting bigger and bigger, and the robots couldn't keep up because their mechanical bodies couldn't care anymore than what they already were. That's why they started having difficulties and eventually losing.

Some of this is explained in a deleted scene. Kaiju blood is highly toxic, so they try to kill them with blunt force trauma when possible.

One thing I really appreciate about Pacific Rim is that there's no forced romance. There's a little bit of sexual tension between Generic Action Man and Adopted Asian Lady, but it doesn't come up much and they don't even kiss. The most they do is hug, and that's at the very end of the film after they've saved the world. It's refreshing.

This movie totally nailed the idea of putting down a premise and then using action to fill in the gaps. You’re told what’s going on, why some easy solutions won’t work, and then hours’ worth of pure, well-edited action. Perfect.
