Agreed, anything that would require the entire machine to be torn down to replace should be dealt with now. The way i see it, if you have any reservations about a part then it should be replaced, especially for something that deals with extreme forces.

I use to build those hydraulic gear pumps. Worked for Eaton for decades. Machined every part in them as well. The aluminum body, I used to final hone both ends. They had to be machined in a "cold room" so they wouldn't warp after machining. The main deal when rebuilding them is making sure your internal seals are in correctly. I've rebuilt thousands of them where people put the seals in upside down or not seated correctly. So be careful. Those little shafts with the round ball on the end, make sure there are no scratches. I've polished thousands of those. even the tiniest scratch will take the pump out. Those pumps have a VERY tight tolerance. The gears within .003 of an inch. Also ran the CNC that machined the gears. We had to know how to machine every part and build them. Good Luck, looks like you're doing good.

Matt, since you disassembled it all the way apart, you should always replace all bearings and seals, check into a local bearing shop, they can get them much easier and cheaper and they will be a name brand bearing. By the way, spend the money for a new pump assembly, you'll be much happier later and you'll have full pressure when you need it later.

As a non-mechanic watching this I'm amazed at how Matt takes apart one complicated bearing, with a shaft within another bearing, attached by a circlip, soft rubber gasket and many bolts. Then just drops them (gently) on the floor and starts the same process with another part. How on earth can he remember where everything goes back together.

About the spinning bearing. Use a punch on the bearing housing and make little dimples (a lot of them) all around evenly and after that use very hard retaining compound to seal the deal. You could also sand the outer race of the bearing to further help loctite keep it in place. It is still way better then freely spinning bearing. But you can only do it if there is little to no play. If you feel there is a clearance between the bearing and the housing (you can feel the bearing moving other then just along the bore) then the only thing you can do is to machine a sleeve and restore the original bore, or machine a bigger bearing in there. I hope this helps!

@@kstricl I had to comment, because I have done it succesfully many time, but in order to succeed it can't be too loose, yet is an option. However it totally depends on how easily it is serviceable later on after assembly. Naturally if it is a very difficult place then do it right the first time.
