I’d really like to see how you went about getting your rotorpax mount fitted to you BDCW pillion rack. Looks pretty clean.
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 2 ай бұрын
I did not make a video on that one (sorry) but I ended up just taking a RotoPax base piece, measuring the distance between the two screw holes and then I got metal drill bits and kept sizing up the diameter until the screws went through the holes. The plates are aluminum so it was a pretty easy half hour job.

I live up in East Kentucky near the VA border. Older now. I've done a few rides in 58 years on the road. That's a lot of stuff but in my trips noeth and around when shit weather hits you may need to hole up a few days. Being prepared is essential to having a good trip and even surviving. Safe travels to you. The tools of travel has changed so much in my time. When I started two D cell flashlight batteries were all you needed as far as electronics. A few rolls of film and a manual camera. Take care ride safe. next time

Man, those D batteries and those Coleman cook stoves / camp lights and those HUGE Coleman sleeping bags. I remember those days...I'm much younger but we were too poor to afford nice stuff so I'm thrilled to be able to carry so much now when back then it'd be hard to fit everything. There's about 25% of this I could leave home and just rely on my cell phone and a credit card if I had to but I'm pretty happy with the list and few extra pounds that will make it where I'll be more sufficient.

@@AdamChandler86 It's so funny now with my small Northface 35 yr old Chrystilas down bag and Wesyern Moutaineering bag packed not much bigger than a pound coffee can compaired to my Coleman type 808 hollowfill big as a damn 40 GAL. GARBAGE CAN on back.

My first touring bag which I still have was a green creel bag from a local hunting fishing hardware store. Those poor days were fun days. Lot more simple. Always remember we are Kings in 95% of the world

Dude- you and I have a lot of the same stuff! I have questions and comments! - The Big Agnes Armchair Six is huge, but I think worth it. The Chair One is not comfortable. I also have the Helinox table- very cool! - I have an R6 and 70-200 2.8. I’m still nervous about taking it on my Africa Twin, plus it’s a tank. I’ve been thinking about ditching my Mosko Nomad for the Hood, but still don’t trust the vibes won’t kill the camera and lens. Have you thought about using your iPhone for everyday shots and leaving the 24-70 behind? - Nice work on the clothes and compression bags - Why not an iPad for editing? I find them to be really effective. - That’s a long time to be away from a baby! You better put some time in!

Sweet comment! Glad to chat with you and thanks for checking out this longer than usual video. I just sold a few of those low to the ground, ultra-thin camp chairs because they were just not comfortable for 4-5 hours around the camp fire. I think I'll really love this big Six chair despite how long it packs down. ---- here's what I'll say about big cameras, Canons are built like tanks. I have carried Canon 5D Mark 2-3-4 on my tank bags for 10 years and have never had a mechanical failure. I know it's scary but at least for me, zero issues but I do pack the lenses so they don't jostle around which helps. Mirrorless should be even more reliable for Moto travel. Anytime I don't bring my camera, I regret it. the photos are just no comparison and a few of mine are published and I just love the memories afforded by a full frame camera. I wear a GoPro Hero 12 and an Insta360 mounted to the bike along with the iPhone. ----- I've been an iPad user since the first one came out back in 2010. I haven't NOT had an iPad and since I started riding, I've had an iPad with me while traveling so this is the first time in a decade I'm leaving it home (well I sold it) and bringing the MacBook. If you look at the apps like from GoPro, Insta360 and even FinalCut and you compare file access and just overall features, the Mac just has more going on. I'm going to miss the cellular connection but I'll just have to hope the MacBook survives the journey. Funnily enough, the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard is the same thickness as the MacBook Pro so it's not taking up much more space. I was 50/50 Mac and iPad for a long time but the iPad just never felt as productive as the Mac ----- This whole trip was my wife's idea but yeah, she leaves for New Hampshire next week (we have a house up there) and I'll leave a week later for 5 weeks so the baby will be 2 months older when I see her next. CRAZY.

It's definitely a lot but given the trip and the bikes load carrying capabilities it's not outlandish.

Surely someone will come along and disagree stating I only should bring one pair of undies and start fires with a flint :P I will be very comfortable on this trip and there’s very little I won’t need as well as some things can even fail and I’ll have a backup safety net so I feel really good about what I brought and just hope I only have to pickup the bike a dozen times. :P

I hate packing for long trips. I only pack: the basics,the necessary but expensive items....and a credit card.

I do that for most all of my trips except this one. There will be days that I won’t see another person so I’m trying to be self sufficient.

I am so bad at starting fires that I bring multiple ways to start a fire so that I can survive. We have wooden cubes, matches, a lighter, sometimes gasoline, and of course, when in doubt, the blowtorch.

Great video again Adam. Depending on your route and road conditions in Alaska, you may encounter that awful cement-like calcium chloride slurry they sometimes put down. If you encounter any, try to wash off as much as you can whenever you can during your trip…it will be less work when you get back. It’s a tough job when it hardens, especially when mixed with all the other road muck.
